  1. The magic checkbook. Well, he inherited Pedro. Pedro told them to sign Papi. They were able to dump bad contracts on the inept version of the Dodgers.
  2. Haven’t been since I left LA 10 years ago. Beautiful stadium, horrible to get to. Just the worst possible place to put a park.
  3. Those are made up names.
  4. Less than half his games at the position? I've seen this one before: Clint Frazier is going to be pointing his finger at congress and wearing earplugs during games sooner than later.
  5. I wonder if ownership will be hesitant to make that move as they don't want another black eye. Maybe they reach out and try to get him to retire, but pay him in some other way? IDK.
  6. @SoxProspects Red Sox have announced that RHP Domingo Tapia was claimed off waivers by the Seattle Mariners. With seven players coming off the 45/60-day IL after the World Series, expect more roster moves of this sort (clearing out being claimed off waivers) over the next week. It has begun.
  7. Almost a month after parting ways with manager Ron Roenicke, the Red Sox continue to evaluate candidates to serve as his replacement, with interviews already held with at least two. Notably, however, they will not be talking to one name who had been linked to the opening: Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Matt Quatraro. Quatraro would seem a natural target, since he has spent most of his coaching and managerial career with the Rays, starting in 2004, filling a variety of roles from minor league catching instructor, hitting coordinator, hitting coach and manager. He's also been part of the major league coaching staff since 2018 -- first as third base coach and then as bench coach. In every year but this past one, Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom was with the Rays, too. But per an agreement with the Rays, forged a year ago when Bloom left Tampa Bay to join the Red Sox, Bloom is prohibited from hiring anyone from Tampa Bay -- both front office and uniformed personnel -- for a period of two years.
  8. Small but mighty!
  9. Apologies to Pedey if he reads TalkSox!
  10. Urueta, 40 in January, has held his current position in Arizona for three seasons. He’s previously served as Arizona’s minor league field coordinator in addition to managing the Diamondbacks’ Rookie-level affiliate, managing in the Dominican Winter League and managing Team Colombia in the 2017 World Baseball Classic. The 40-year-old Kelly has fast risen as a popular managerial candidate after retiring as a player following the 2016 season. The longtime Tigers utilityman began working in Detroit’s player development part upon retiring and moved to their scouting staff the next year. He was hired as Houston’s first base coach for the 2018 season and hired as the Pirates’ bench coach under rookie skipper Derek Shelton last offseason.
  11. We debated stupid moves back then too.
  12. @Enrique_Rojas1 Source: #RedSox interviewed Luis Urueta for manager position for the second time in 10 months
  13. Dodgers fans show up in the 2nd inning and are gone in the 7th. Now maybe if they just sang a stupid song every 8th inning to keep people around.......
  14. Were the 2020 Red Sox dedicated to winning?
  15. Mookie only played 50 games total in the OF before being moved up to BOS to play OF. He played almost 250 in the IF in MiLB. Duran has had much longer to acclimate himself and reports are that he still has a ways to go.
  16. In 2018 he played OF for 45 games. He only played 20 games at 2b in 2018. Yes, he's still new at the position, but Betts took to OF much more quickly after moving off 2b than Duran has.
  17. LA is a great place to live. I'd move back there if my wife didn't get sinus infections every other month while we were there. Yes, it's hella expensive and the traffic is an abomination. It's still a great city with lots of stuff to do.
  18. I would agree. There are lots of moving parts to the story.
  19. Even that is treating Felger as a reliable narrator. He is not. LA Times has a story about how Sox fans will never forgive "the trade." I think that's untrue. The trade itself was fine. The decision to not come to terms with Mookie is the issue. I can't fault Bloom. I can only fault ownership.
  20. That post was a wild ride of nonsense.
  21. If Duran's glove was better, he'd be penciled in as next year's CF IMO.
  22. It's more likely than not that Duran gets a shot to stick at CF by the end of 2022. He could certainly play himself off the position, but I think the Sox would be better off with a young guy like Duran getting reps than Marisnick or whoever (once they determine Duran won't be overwhelmed by MLB pitchers).
