  1. His defense was average last season. I think he just struggled with the spring training/summer camp nonsense that happened this year. Regardless, I don't think he'd get a Mookie deal... yet. Also, WHY DOES HE HAVE AN ABOVE AVERAGE BSR SCORE ON FANGRAPHS IF YOU THINK HE'S A MINUS RUNNER?
  2. @ChrisCotillo Xander Bogaerts says he thinks the Red Sox can contend in 2021 and is looking forward to seeing some of the club's prospects coming up. Asked for specifics, he mentions Jeter Downs and Bryan Mata as two young players he's excited about.
  3. I disagree with the "blew the Sox away" stuff.
  4. Corresponding moves were to recall Dylan Covey and Robert Stock (twitter rejoices).
  5. @RedSox The #RedSox today announced the following roster moves: INF José Peraza was optioned to the Alternate Training Site following Tuesday’s games against the Phillies. RHP Austin Brice today was placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Sept. 9) with a right lat strain.
  6. Sox haven't been lower than 4th in total payroll since 2003. Sox claiming to be the Sisters of the Poor is just not legit. Yes, the Yankees spent more (most years). However, the Sox had a payroll that was better than 90-95% of other teams in that timeframe. If Henry wanted to, he could have matched the amount the Yankees spent. SOX SPENT 40% MORE THAN THE YANKEES IN 2018.
  7. @ChrisCotillo Pablo Sandoval is being DFA'd by the Giants (per @JonHeyman ) and no, the Red Sox aren't signing him.
  8. @SPChrisHatfield The Red Sox transactions page shows Jose Peraza as being optioned to the ATS yesterday. No announcement otherwise. Interesting move in what seems to be a last ditch effort to see if there's anything there. Currently looking like he'll be non-tendered this offseason. @PeteAbe Seems odd the Red Sox didn't just release Jose Peraza instead of optioning him to the alternative site. Could get a prospect two weeks of work with the coaches there. More upside to that than keeping around a player who will almost surely be non-tendered. Currently unknown who is taking Peraza's place on the roster.
  9. The amount of teams that could afford that contract is tiny. Why would he just cross one of them off the list? Makes no sense.
  10. 5M AAV is fine for a 4th OFer.
  11. The Tom Werner "Evil Empire" s*** was embarrassing.
  12. No, because the Sox payroll was pretty damn high. And I'd only mention the Giambi/Clemens/Pettite substance abuse if some dumb Yankees fan was whining about Ortiz.
  13. How many relievers do you think need to be added to the roster?
  14. The Price deal was fine (though they maybe should have gotten Greinke). The Sale/Eovaldi contracts are the bigger concern.
  15. Just an old sweet song keeps Pedroia on my mind.
  16. The cursed Philly bullpen got to him by transitive property. Force the Phillies to forfeit their season so that it doesn't spread further.
  17. He wasn't DFA'd though.
  18. Carl Pavano did end up with a higher fWAR than Buchholz. Could also be just the law of averages with the 80's giving us Clemens and Schilling, while we just missed the jackpot since. HOF* starters don't wind up in your lap all that often.
  19. @BillKoch25 Per @JoshMaurerRadio and @TheRadioMike , several players from the alternate site are with the #RedSox taxi squad on their current road trip. Dylan Covey, Domingo Tapia, Tanner Houck, Cesar Puello all among them. @redsoxstats Wonder if Houck could start on regular rest Saturday.
  20. Anderson was on track to the bigs through his second season in 2008, but after 2009 it was a freefall. He probably shouldn't have even appeared for the Sox in 2010. If 2009 continued to show improvement, he could have debuted then (it took an extra year because of his decreased production). That would be equivalent to 2021 for a Casas timeline, which makes sense to me. I bet he starts 2021 in AA and he could get promoted quickly if he hits like Beni or Devers did in AA.
  21. @PeteAbe #RedSox returned catcher Deivy Grullón to the taxi squad after he was the extra player in Tuesday’s doubleheader. Backup catcher Kevin Plawecki, who didn’t play Tuesday because of a bruised hand, is expected to be available on Thursday.
  22. Do any of the current guys have a shot at reversing the bad luck? Mata seems like he could be pretty good. Probably the best bet to stick in the rotation. Groome is what he is, but a LHP that has his stuff can stick around for a while as long as he's durable. (Wade Miley comp is similar to Buchholz's career fWAR) Song could be the best pitcher in the system, but we don't know what he'll look like after his service time. Ward has good numbers in the minors, but will he get lit up once he advances? Potential bullpen arm based on his stuff.
  23. Which Willie? Calhoun, McGee, Harris, Wilson?
