  1. People like Gonsalves. Rondon, McCarthy and Walden have MLB experience. Maybe Feltman finally makes a leap? There was buzz about Politti, but he's pretty far away.
  2. If the coaches didn't correct him, that's on them. Cora said he was positioned in the right spot.
  3. I think Franchy's defense is fine. The problem is that Renfroe can't hit a lick against RHP. He has an OPS of 310 or so this year. That's just unacceptable. Career wise, he's a 900 OPS guy against LHP. It looks like they are giving each guy a chance to win the job as these three all have relatively the same amount of PA's. It just seems to me that Arroyo has been more successful that Renfroe or Franchy. If we scrapped the idea of a platoon in OF, I'd have Franchy be the starter in LF, Kiké in CF and Arroyo at 2B. Renfroe would be a RHB off the bench.
  4. Taylor and Brice need to go. DHern can't be put in high leverage spots until he earns it.
  5. Something that is more interesting to me is that we see Dalbec as this young rookie who has untapped potential and Arroyo as some sort of journeyman. ARROYO IS ONLY ONE MONTH OLDER THAN DALBEC.
  6. I'm not sure if he's ever been given a real opportunity to start day in and day out. He's been pretty good since coming here last year. To me, it's comparing Arroyo and Franchy vs LHP and Renfroe vs RHP. I'd take Arroyo over those guys hitting opposite their splits.
  7. With the current roster construction, I think Arroyo at 2b, Kiké at CF and Renfroe/Franchy in LF is their best lineup.
  8. I don't like Kiké hitting leadoff, but I also don't necessarily want the players filling out the lineup card.
  9. Kiké has spent the vast majority of his career hitting either 1st or 7th - 8th. His WRC+ is the same for 1st and 8th. His numbers are about the same at both spots. My guess is that he doesn't have a preference for where he hits, but Cora likes his skillset at leadoff.
  10. What about the 4th start? .2 Innings, 6 ER. Over his last 5 starts, only 1 went longer than 4.1.
  11. Verdugo was great at it last year.
  12. @SoxProspects Per MiLB website transactions, the Red Sox made a round of cuts from the minor leagues, releasing the following players: OF Caleb Ramsey RHP Yoelvis Guedez RHP Kevin Biondic RHP Reed Harrington RHP Richardson Jimenez RHP Hunter Haworth IF/OF Jagger Rusconi
  13. Fabian having a 32% k rate IN COLLEGE, isn't a good look.
  14. After 10 starts last year, the Padres threw him to the pen. Sox may need to be more proactive than that.
  15. Everyone should discuss what they are thinking has merit. Saying "well, Bloom/Cora knows more than you or I" or "who cares, they are winning" really just stifles conversation.
  16. That's what I'm saying!
  17. Perez and Pivetta have looked better than Richards. Maybe just move Richards into a relief role until his mechanics are figured out?
  18. But how about the lineups I'm comfortable with? That has merit too.
  19. They lead in runs because the BABIP is unsustainably high for some of the hitters. They don't lead in runs because Kiké hits a leadoff HR and then goes 4 AB's without getting on base.
  20. Shifts are fine. K's are fine. Just decrease the time between pitches and the game would be more enjoyable.
  21. No f***ing clue. Makes no damn sense.
  22. The percentage of at bats in which the ball is not put in play (home runs, walks, strikeouts, hit batters) is up to 38%. And yet he's still blaming the shift. WTF?
  23. He didn't want to say "guy in his 30's could no longer hit a fastball."
  24. From the article: Meanwhile, evidence that the shift is harming careers and the entertainment value of the game continues to mount. Entering this week, the major league batting average was .233, the third-lowest April batting average in the 102 years of the live ball era (1943, 1968). Batting average on balls in play is down to .286, the lowest in 29 years. Hits are at an all-time low. Strikeouts are at an all-time high. Strikeouts aren't at an all time high because of the shift. We're here because of the launch angle. Honestly, I don't think the shift affects pace of play. If you want to beat the shift, learn to hit the other way. The shift has been around since Ted Williams.
