  1. That having your two best starting pitchers out is not ideal?
  2. I'm not expecting much from the Royals or Phillies guys, but they too may have a realistic shot of being better for the Sox than Franchy. Franchy's floor is pulls hammy in ST and never plays again. His injury risk is that high. I hope Franchy is a shooting star who puts up amazing numbers for one year and the Sox deal him next offseason.
  3. It was the perfect storm of a year to tank. No fans. Short season. Need to get under the cap. Still had a title in recent memory.
  4. If it was a 162 game season, they would have been a 4th place team rather than a last place team.
  5. The bonafides are 04, 07, 13 and 18.
  6. I didn't say they needed more attention. However, on how the deal was made, the PTBNL from the Mets should be a decent value since the sent Lee for him and Wickowski. It will be interesting to see who that guy is. Cordero has all the talent in the world, plus a high k rate and an extensive injury history. There's a good chance we get more out of the PTBNLs than out of Cordero.
  7. He's basically a lottery ticket that will just disintegrate if it's too humid. I'm waiting to see the PTBNLs. I also didn't include Marwin because he doesn't move the needle for me.
  8. @OverTheMonster College baseball starts up today, which is of extra interest to Red Sox fans this year with a top five pick. Some players to watch: Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter at Vandy, Jud Fabian at Florida, Adrian Del Castillo at Miami, Jaden Hill at LSU, Matt McLain at UCLA.
  9. I think they've made some good acquisitions this offseason: Sawamura (might not work out, but is cheap) Richards Perez (not a high ceiling but is a professional pitcher) Kiké Renfroe (if used as a platoon) Andriese (unspectacular but should shore up the bullpen) Ottavino (could be the best pen arm they have)
  10. That sounds about right. I think the Yankees will be in the mid 90's and the Sox will be in the mid 80's. It seems like the most likely outcome.
  11. Ok, but why weren’t you saying this about JBJ last year?
  12. And maybe he could break in Duran and provide some good tips.
  13. Hippocrates was Coco’s Disciples!
  14. @redsoxstats Schreiber has had two short stints with the Tigers in 2019 and 2020 with a poor ERA but was 10% better than league average in FIP and xFIP. 26% K, 6% BB, and a strong minor league track record. He slings it from the side. In 2019 between Double-A and Triple- A, he posted a 2.31 ERA in 53 appearances with a 11.1 K/9
  15. @ChrisCotillo Red Sox claimed RHP John Schreiber off waivers from the Tigers. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Red Sox placed LHP Chris Sale on the 60-day injured list.
  16. I buy it. There are many big unknowns going into this year. How does pitching hold up after a weird 2020? What about the prospect pipeline for guys who got no reps in 2020? Will there be cancelled games again in 2021?
  17. He's a lurker. Also was one of the original mods back in 2005.
  18. Less than 0% shot. They are going to develop him as a starter first and foremost. He may transition to the pen at some point to reduce his workload, but it would be only short term.
  19. @PeteAbe Likely not complete list of position guys working out at #RedSox camp: Kiké Hernandez, Rafael Devers, Jeter Downs, Bobby Dalbec, Marcus Wilson, and Alex Verdugo. With Cora back, I hope Devers is in good shape and ready to go. Glad he's already there.
  20. He's worth 2/12, which I think is what I said the Sox should give him earlier in the offseason. If you're $1M over, that gives you enough wiggle room to either go for it at the deadline or trade off salary. They can get back under if they want to.
  21. Isn't there a limited amount that Japanese teams can pay foreign players? He'd be better suited to sitting out and waiting for someone to get injured.
  22. He changed his swing to get more lift in 2020. Scouting reports have stated that he's hitting the ball in the air more. We'll have to see what the results look like this year.
  23. @ChrisCotillo Cora says Kiké Hernandez will move around during games and that he's a plus defender in all 3 OF spots and 2B. "That's the beauty of the team this year, being very versatile and moving people around."
  24. @PeteAbe Cora says @eduardorod5 (ERod) is a “full-go” after missing last season.
  25. @PeteAbe Per MLB/MILB: Triple A will open April 6 (142-game season). Double A and Single A open May 4 (120-game season).
