@ChrisCotillo Sale said he spent 5 days a week at JetBlue Park last summer, when allowed (due to COVID protocols). Credits training staff in FL for helping him around. He was the only player at the complex a lot of the time. "The last time I talked to the media, I was showering with a hose."

The Yankees get better EVERY offseason and the Sox just seem to be not as good as they once were EVERY offseason.

Yeah, there are more guys they can get rid of if they need to. I think one of Brice or Walden is gone by the end of ST and replaced by another arm, even if it's just a prospect who starts in AAA.

Sale on the neck issue: It slowed some things down, but we were on top of it and had great doctors. I showed up yesterday like everyone else. Doing PFPs and throwing. Says he's throwing every other day. Not throwing off a mound yet. Sale: My elbow has been on track since day one, dealt with the neck thing. But nothing off track on (elbow wise). I was here by myself all summer so it's nice to have people back. I've been doing this a while and I've never been so excited for spring training and PFPs and drills

@ChrisCotillo Source confirms: Mitch Moreland in agreement with the Athletics. It's a one-year, $2.25M deal with $250k in incentives. He'll DH for them and play some 1B. @JeffPassan first.

Plawecki is on the IL. I don't think they have to DFA anyone yet. They'll have another week to decide about that.

Sounds good to me if the money is right. Porcello eats innings for breakfast and we have a fragile rotation. Bradley is sufficient in CF and we have nobody to play there.

#RedSox have 71 players on their ST roster for the moment (counting Plawecki on COVID list). They can have many as 75. Some teams have announced a "reserve squad" of extra players for games. Sox won't be doing that. For now AAA season expected to start shortly after MLB season. 3:55 PM · Feb

@ByMcCullough Blake Snell thanked the Red Sox last year for trading Mookie Betts out of the American League East. Snell, now a fellow denizen of the National League West, said today he has rescinded his thank you to Boston.

The Rays need to fill a roster for little money. They need to collect guys like Springs and Mazza and hope one turns out ok. Hernandez was expendable to the Rays since they have much better C depth than the Sox do.

They lost Snell and Morton in FA. They lost Chrinos to TJS. That's a lot of innings to make up for.

@redsoxstats Rankings roundup on Ronaldo Hernandez: #11 The Athletic/Law #13 Baseball America #14 MLB Pipeline #23 Fangraphs Tampa has the #1 farm system. He was Baseball America's #56 overall prospect in 2019 before sliding off. Even if some shine wore off, this is still a headscratcher.

@BaseballValues We're scratching our heads on this one. We know Hernandez's stock has fallen, and it's possible it's tanked more than is publicly known. But this still seems like a massive drop-off for a player who was a Top 100 prospect a year ago, considering both Mazza and Springs were DFA'd. One other possibility - this could be something of a two-part trade. We've seen that in the past, where two teams make two separate lopsided trades - one in favor of each team - and they ultimately even out when combined. We'll have to wait and see if that's the case here.
