  1. If Narvaez is similar to last season and Wong can just be 0.0 fWAR, they should be closer to 15th instead of 26th.
  2. Castellanos was dreadful last season. I wouldn't even want him taking platoon AB's away from Casas vs LHP.
  3. Kelly has always been an up and down guy. He's a completely DFA'able. Samaniego has never pitched above AA. Why would we project him onto the BOS roster before the ASB?
  4. DFA Moran, it doesn't matter. With 8 bullpen arms, it's easier than ever to fit a guy like Watson onto a staff. Not a big deal to carry him at all.
  5. I was just propositioning what the best defense would be on a certain day. If Romy was in, they'd have to move Story back over to SS I guess? This is probably why it's easier to go: Durbin 3b Story SS Mayer 2b However, I think it's not a big deal if Durbin is at 3b vs LHP (Romy at 2b) and 2b vs RHP (Mayer at 3b).
  6. I just tend to trust SP more because they are hyper focused on the Sox and pay attention to them everyday whereas other sources have a more generalized knowledge and only see a series or two throughout the year. Like the last SP podcast with Geoff Pontes who is still high on Allan Castro because he sees the one or two good games the guy has every year and missed the IL stints that SP sees.
  7. Talking to your players is hard!
  8. That's fine because Neto has no problem striking out either.
  9. Altars? Let's get a few WS first. I was thinking Craig extends Durbin at some point because everyone gets one.
  10. Mayer is more comfy at 3b than 2b. Durbin came up through MiLB as a 2b. Cora doesn't want to ruffle Story's feathers.
  11. Neto would be a fun watch at Fenway (RH pull power), but this lineup really needs some guys who aren't above a 25% k rate. Neto's glove is probably a better fit for 2b than SS. If the bar was truly high from the Angels, it's a pass from me.
  12. IKF is a backup that plays great defense and is a good clubhouse guy. Sounds like a good fit for this roster.
  13. If Durbin's arm is healthy, the best defense would be: Story 2b Mayer SS Durbin 3b I don't think we're going to get that though.
  14. Altuve has had 60 fWAR over his career. If the Sox got half that out of Durbin, we'd be happy.

I watched the women's match between Canada and Switzerland. The announcers were fine enough. Curling on split screens was a fun time too. Not really interested in anything else TBH.
  16. From BA: He can play second or third base capably, and he can even fill in at shortstop in an emergency. Durbin is 5-foot-7 and his value offensively is largely tied to his small strike zone, his excellent plate discipline and above-average bat control. He is extremely difficult to strike out and if a pitcher makes a mistake, he can pull it for extra bases. Fenway Park’s Green Monster should be a nice match for Durbin, as his extra-base juice is almost entirely to the pull side. How he fits for the Red Sox will be an interesting discussion. With Marcelo Mayer also ready to contribute and Trevor Story set at shortstop, Durbin could slide to second base, or the Red Sox could move Mayer primarily to second base and let Durbin serve as the Alex Bregman replacement at third.
  17. ??? He's played 40 innings at 2b in MLB. He's played 1,000 innings at 3b in MLB. You can't say anything about how he'd fare at one position or another based solely on the metrics because of SSS issues.
  18. Wrong, bunting for hits is GREAT.
  19. Also EVERYONE thought the KC deal was great at the time.
  20. The situation is further muddied by the fact that infielder Romy Gonzalez is behind schedule due to a shoulder issue that bothered him throughout the offseason (links via MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo and the Globe’s Tim Healey). Gonzalez suffered the injury in Boston’s 160th game of the season. He rested it and rehabbed it throughout the winter and believed the issue to be behind him but instead aggravated it when starting a hitting program last month. He’s since received a platelet-rich plasma injection and is aiming to be ready for Opening Day, but that’ll depend on how his shoulder progresses (or does not progress) during the Grapefruit League schedule.
