I watched a few videos of the ambidextrous Seigler. I now don't want him moved. They need to turn WOO into banana ball with Seigler.
STL is worse for RHB than BOS. Conteras should see his numbers increase a little bit from 20 HR, 124 wRC+. He should be a bit better than Bregman was overall (considering the Breggie fell off a cliff after his injury). Maybe he'll be closer to his '24 numbers? IDK.
They believe Anthony will make up for the early season Devers numbers. We'll see!
Refsnyder? Romy can only hit once in the lineup, so IDK. There's a downgrade somewhere vs LHP.
I think they'll be better defensively, but offensively it's a question mark. Maybe Abreu continues to add HR's. Maybe Rafaela continues to get better across the board. Maybe Mayer starts to figure it out. Maybe Casas comes back healthy and takes over for Masa. Maybe none of those happen.
Dubin will be compared to Devers, Neto, Marte, Paredes, Hoerner, Shaw. If any one of them has a really good season, someone gets to gloat for no good reason. Just brainless.
It's not a comparison since we don't know the trade package. If they had to trade Mayer, you'd have to factor Mayer AND Durbin AND Tolle AND whoever else vs Neto.
Reminiscent of the Joe Ryan trade packages from last year's deadline. Angels may have been in talks with the Sox, but they may have not been serious about it.
Neto is 25. Not all players continue to grow after a certain age. The Angels don't have any other franchise player left. Just because we want him, doesn't mean the Angels were going to give him up for a reasonable package.
John Henry does not believe this. He believes that every season not making the playoffs is a failure. This is why he pushed Bloom to make moves at every deadline and fired him for not being able to do so. He buys into the idea of a self sustaining contender and was willing to take a step back, but wanted to try to compete while doing so. He wasn't happy with the 78-84 win seasons. If he was, he would have just kept Bloom!
He wants to be a playoff contender while spending closer to the Cardinals/Cubs/Giants than Dodgers/Yankees/Mets.
He's a terrible baseball player who is lower than the other 40 man roster guys on the depth chart simply because he doesn't have options or a 40 man roster spot. He's stuck in AAA until they need someone else to play in WOO.
It has been empty for a while and it has prevented the Sox from being truly competitive or lowering their ceiling. Even dumping Devers last year changed the outlook on last season. Will this year be different? It's hard to say. They are spending money, but they are constantly getting outbid for the players they are known to be bidding for. If you are always readjusting to Plan C, D and E, it's easy to see why people can remain skeptical.
Also, YOU have been a person that has continued to call this a "mid market" team. They are not. They are a large market team. They bring in a TON of revenue. They could compete with any other team in MLB if they wanted to. Where they spend in relation to other teams is a choice!
Saying "the wallet is empty after spending so much" is rather foolish since we all know that they are still making much more off of this team than they are spending on payroll. The wallet is empty because they have often not wanted to pick up the check when the tab is due.
Giving up a boatload of prospects for him (which is what it apparently would have taken) just doesn't make sense to me. He was less than 1 fWAR better than Durbin for less control and a substantially higher cost.
