    The ceiling is still there. He just missed some development time and has things to work on. Not every prospect is going to crush it as quick as Roman did. I think we can be honest about where his is today and what the expectations should be for this coming year. To me, let him have a full year in the bigs succeeding against RHB in largely a platoon role and try to get to October healthy. He may not get a full load of at bats against LHP, but if he was treated like Abreu, he's still see LHP like 15% of the time (most likely resting against really tough LHP). When Duran played everyday in '24, he faced LHP about 30% of the time. Is 50% of the at bats destroying his development? I don't really think so if it's his first year.

    That's why I wouldn't have brought him up so early last season. His bat wasn't ready. Everybody said he was ready, but he OPS'd under 700 and didn't look comfortable except on defense.

    Duran isn't getting benched. If Campbell and Garcia are on the roster, it's either due to injury, trade or as bench roles. Garcia isn't ready for a spot anytime soon. Campbell is still a bit of a mystery right now. We don't even know where they'd play him TBH. He could show up as the fulltime 1B and it wouldn't be that shocking.

    I saw this last night and it seemed like it's in regards to his injury and the expectations of him coming back. I like his personality. Baseball players are better when they are a little weird.

    Cease may have a high swing and miss, but it's not because he stays in the zone. He has an 80% chase rate and he pitches only 46% in zone, worse than Bello. Ryan is a much better fit for the Sox's model IMO (55% in zone, better than Crochet).

    Had a blow up start o 9/25 and lost Game 3 of the WC. I guess his velo is down. Cubs may know more than anybody else, but he was really good for him for the first 95% of the time he was there.

    I think the high k offensive approach makes those RISP just look miserable. It wasn't a surprise that they would get tore up by a pitcher throwing heat. The team just can't make contact. It's a roster construction issue.

    Cease either wants a very high AAV short term deal or a very long term one. I'm not a fan either. 23-25 6th highest BB rate qualified starters. 304 BABIP 69.3 LOB% 12th worst

    Also, staying complacent/not a lot of turnover isn't necessarily a bad thing if you have a lot of younger players that you project to improve. It may not turn out that way, but you can't just rely on FA signings as those don't have a 100% hit rate.

    And I'm not saying he'll never develop into an every day hitter, just that right now they have a guy that smokes LHP and you can ease Mayer into MLB as a platoon guy this season.

    They chose to platoon Abreu right off the bat. They chose to not let Duran become a platoon player. Both have platoon splits. Hard to say what the right course of action is with Mayer. They have a need for him to start, but his bat isn't fully developed and still needed seasoning in AAA IMO (offspeed/LHP).

    If it was for the right guy maybe. Otherwise, I'm holding onto him and seeing if he can progress into a more complete hitter over the next few years.

    Mayer is a bigger health concern. Story is just getting older and will see his production decline.

    O'Hearn doesn't do it for me. Ozuna had a down year last year and serious off field incidents. Players love him though. Anything more than 2 years would be CRAZY.

    Even just Mayer playing fulltime should increase the batting order slot that 2b occupied if Breggie is signed. Agree that 1b should be an easy upgrade somehow.
