  1. Problem with Gutierrez is that his backups were Glenn Hoffman and Ed Jurak who were even worse. They didn't have a viable in house SS until Jody Reed in 1988.
  2. Sullivan was still in A ball when Fisk went to the bad Sox. He didn't get double digit MLB PA's until 1985.
  3. I don't remember this guy at all. He OPS'd 1.110 in the GCL in 52 games. Not bad! Then he sucked for Lowell and was mediocre after that. December 16, 2002: the Boston Red Sox sent Josh Thigpen (minors) and Tony Blanco to the Cincinnati Reds to complete an earlier deal made on December 12, 2002. December 12, 2002: The Boston Red Sox sent players to be named later to the Cincinnati Reds for Todd Walker. Seems like the Sox got the better end of the deal.
  4. A depth of soul isn't "don't talk bad about a player because his friends or family may come across this post."
  5. 2018: 1.6 fWAR 2019: 2.0 fWAR 2021: 1.8 fWAR I think he met expectations. Things like RBI are just indicative of the batters around him. Padres were 28th and 27th in runs in 2018 and 2019. If he had better hitters in front of him, he would have had more RBI. Therefore, I think he played about as well in 2021 as he did in 2018 and 2019.
  6. I don't like the deal either. I guess putting JBJ in CF and Kiké at 2b is basically just replacing Arroyo? Maybe they do a platoon where JBJ plays CF against RHP and Arroyo plays 2b against LHP (Kiké floats between the two positions)? If I was constructing the OF: Verdugo LF Kiké CF Other RHB RF (preferably Suzuki)
  7. I think Pivetta greatly exceeded expectations, probably more so than Renfroe or Kiké. He's probably our 3rd starter this year.
  8. I think Kiké will spend a lot of time between CF and 2b, but primarily CF. JBJ is the 4th OFer IMO.
  9. If Verdugo can repeat his 2020 performance. If Kiké can repeat his 2021 performance. If Eovaldi can stay healthy. If Sale can get his stuff back. If Casas can crank through AAA and take over at 1b... There's always a lot of ifs. However, I think we can say for sure that Arroyo can't stay healthy. Seems to be an impossibility.
  10. We were waiting for another shoe to drop last offseason, but it never fell. I hope this year's OF isn't such a question mark.
  11. It's weird. At what point can we no longer talk about a player's performance on here? If JD k's looking, should we all just post "better luck next time"? What ever high horse happened over the weekend needs to be brought behind the barn and shot.
  12. Henry Owens?
  13. Me. I made the thread.
  14. The context is that I made this thread.
  15. You should get better ones then.
  16. He looked good in the stirrups though.
  17. Heh... Yeah, not fair to Kyle Hart or Robinson Leyer, but you could throw Zack Godley in there.
  18. His defense was fine according to Fangraphs and BRef. He's basically a 0 WAR guy.
  19. Rusney played on a team that featured horrible Allen Craig and Pablo Sandoval. Deven Marrero was also way worse than Rusney, just didn't really make big money.
  20. 1.6 WAR in BOS. He was overpaid, but not even the worst guy on his team.
  21. Worst contract is not the same as worst player. Next question!
  22. He'd try to take a shot of the tequila, but miss. Shame.
  23. He'd be filed under "biggest Sox dipshit."
  24. They've wasted far more millions on other nonsense in that state. And the residents of that state have so little shame that they'd vote for Buddy Cianci again if they could.
