  1. That's the big question. I think the small market owners are really focused on limited payroll liability as much as possible. If the O's bring up Adley, they won't want to be on an unexpected prearb "penalty" IMO. They'd want to pay him the minimum at most.
  2. Any rankings of players after #20 is basically just dart throwing anyway.
  3. And the owners don't seem willing to give it up.
  4. But one of the leading voices that sits at the table is Max Scherzererear.
  5. Yeah, that's how negotiations work.
  6. There's a lockout, not a strike? The owners would have to say "let's play this season on the previous CBA" but that have stated that they will not do that. There assumption is that having a lockout now, avoids a midseason strike if no deal is made.
  7. What strike? It's a lockout.
  8. Not that I can find.
  9. You say "cheating" but I say "uncertain tax position."
  10. Why do you care about ticket prices? You haven't gone in 20 years. Average ticket price was $39 and that was too much for you. It's not getting back there unless the game craters.
  11. Update: MLB and MLBPA have met for over 3 hours today.
  12. If it's just a game, feel free to stop watching at any point?
  13. @SoxProspects In an Instagram post, outfielder Tate Matheny has announced his retirement. The Red Sox 2015 4th-round pick, he spent most of last season with AAA Worcester after beginning the year in AA Portland. He is the son of former MLB catcher and current Royals manager Mike Matheny.
  14. Contrary to earlier reports, John Henry was not at the meeting today.
  15. The MLB and MLBPA met for over an hour Monday in Jupiter, Florida. It was actually about an hour and fifteen minutes. It's unclear if the two sides are done for the afternoon or are just taking a break, but we'll likely hear more clarity soon. Still, it has to be taken as good news after the two sides only met for 15 minutes last Thursday in New York. MLB has told the MLBPA that there needs to be an agreement on a new CBA by Feb. 28 to prevent delaying the start of the season. There are still big divides on the luxury tax and early arbitration-eligibility, among other things, so the clock is ticking.
  16. They were dissatisfied enough to just shut down the whole operation at the end of last year.
  17. Baseball was better when it only got to 450 players!
  18. I went through the previous SoxProspects rankings and it seemed like about 10 out of the top 20 for each year would get a year of service time at least. Would 5 over the next 40 spots get there? IDK.
  19. The churn and burn on relief arms is high enough that I think guys like Chris Murphy will get service time no matter what. Maybe not a full year in one season, but could get there over multiple seasons. May number may be a little inflated...
  20. Ceiling of 25. Probably 15-16.
  21. Spend 100,000 hours training for a job. Spend 5 years not even making a living wage, but working your ass off. Finally get an opportunity to earn money. "Get a REAL job!"
  22. MLB career is the real world.
  23. Ceiling of an MLB bench bat sounds about right. Dude has natural power, but not much else.
  24. @redsoxstats John Henry taking a prominent role in CBA negotiations starting today is potentially one of the first rays of hope in a long time. He’s long been described as a voice of reason in these things, while Colorado’s Dick Monfort and others try to crush the union. Maybe the right people haven't been at the table?
  25. AT&T and Direct TV including NESN is about $90/month, or $1,080 a year. If you watch every Sox game, that about $7 per game (noting that some games are nationally televised). Much cheaper than going to the movies or paying to stream a movie. If you are out of market, it's about $100 for the year. That's less than a monthly Netflix subscription.
