I think it's a better bet to trade for young pitching than use FA money on old pitching anyway. Seems like a higher likelihood of working out.

The Jays are the perennial winners of the offseason who underperform during the year and become also rans. I'm only concerned about the Rays and the Yankees for the most part. Toronto has a few great pieces, but their farm is the worst in this division. Long term, Orioles could be a threat, but the ownership of that team is just an embarrassment.

No, this was to be expected. Worst to First to Worst just as foretold by the story of Ben Cherington. I guess, would you rather (a) start off a race realizing your shoes were tied together or ( get a commanding early lead and celebrate too early a la Leon Lett? People were talking this Yankees team up as one of the all time great Yankees squads at one point. The Sox have sucked all year. Yankees not living up to the hype is all we've got to hold onto right now unfortunately.

What about holding penalties? Theoretically, those could be called almost every play. Is that analogous to the k zone?

How? The OFers need to cover more ground without the current shifting and he's horrible out there. Is his offense going to get a bump without shifting? He's not making great contact so I'm not sure we're going to see improvement there.

The only deterrence aside from money is: Clubs that are $40 million or more above the threshold shall have their highest selection in the next Rule 4 Draft moved back 10 places unless the pick falls in the top six. In that case, the team will have its second-highest selection moved back 10 places instead. Is a 10 pick drop enough of a reason to get under the cap if you are fine with paying a penalty? I can see not wanting to lose a pick, but to just have the pick pushed back a few slots seems like not a big deal.

I think the changes to shifting puts a premium on DEFENSE which really puts Duran on the outs. Larger bags and less pickoff throws aren't going to make up for his defensive issues and problems getting to 1b.

$5M on Noah. For sure. Incentive laden where he earns future years and $$$? Sure. He's probably worth at least 10AAV no matter what. He's just not in the 20AAV range anymore.
