  1. Lebron: 0
  2. I wonder if the Sox are happy with what they saw with Wong down the stretch last season? Are they ready to have him be a primary backup in 2023? They have mentioned that they are looking to bring in another catcher. Maybe they end up finally moving Wong into a utility role?
  3. I get it. Now that the playoffs are expanded even further, the Sox have less of an excuse to miss them. I can give Bloom a pass for 2020, but 2022 was an embarrassment. It will be interesting to see if he treats this offseason similar to how he treated 21 and 22 or if he goes a different route. I think the future of the org looks bright as long as the prospects pan out, but there's a chance ownership doesn't have the patience to wait on them all to arrive and starts dealing them off for MLB parts. As long as they choose the right assets to deal, it can be a good strategy.
  4. No, I agree, but Story could also just be a guy that gets injuries and that's part of the contract. We can't assume he'll play 150 games a year going forward.
  5. @SoxProspects Jacob Webb earned his third save of the Arizona Fall League last night with a hitless ninth inning in the 7-6 Scottsdale Scorpions win. The 23-year-old righty has a 2.00 ERA and 10 strikeouts over nine innings. Full scouting report
  6. Castellanos has SUCKED in the postseason though. 56 wRC+ OPS below 600 His numbers are worse than his regular season numbers.
  7. The moves going into the season were a net negative. They relied on older, injury prone starters to fill out the rotation. Running out of payroll space to have a backup 1b or RHB OFer really cost them early on IMO. The team seemed lost in April, turned it around in May, but started to take on water once the injuries mounted. The in season moves were just treading water for 2022, but overall they were a net positive for the future as they add prospects that could help going forward. I'm not sold on McGuire being good going forward as he's typically been just a backup. If he's the replacement for Plawecki then that's fine. If he's the fulltime replacement for Vaz, I don't know how well it will work out.
  8. I think replacing Wacha/Hill/Strahm isn't too difficult especially since they are just probably bringing Hill back. They need to find a better replacement than just 2022 JD at DH. If that's just a cheaper rotation at DH and using the surplus cash to fund better pitching, then that's ok with me. It's hard to say what the plan is at SS. My preference is Bogey, but hard to say which direction they are going to go in.
  9. Schwarber signed for 4/79 (19.75 AAV) through age 32, 2.7 fWAR average last two seasons. Story signed for 6/140 (23.33 AAV) through age 34, 2.6 fWAR average last two season. For the Phillies, they are probably getting out from under Schwarber at the right time. If the contract was longer, it would be a big question mark. For now, 3 remaining years don't seem like a big issue to me. Story didn't adjust well to the AL. Maybe he can turn things around. If he continues to falter, his contract could look really ugly. Being stuck with a glove first 2b in a lengthy contract like that isn't ideal. Per Fangraphs' Value calculation, Kyle earned his salary last year but Story didn't.
  10. Schreiber was a 2021 move. February 18, 2021 Boston Red Sox claimed RHP John Schreiber off waivers from Detroit Tigers.
  11. @CatherinVaritek You’re officially stuck with him! Signed for the next 3 years!! Looks like they extended Tek's contract. Hasn't been announced if his role will change.
  12. Yeah, they can't suck again next year.
  13. Only 5 teams in all of baseball won 95 games or more in 2022. I'm not sure that's a reasonable goal for 2024. 90+? I think another poor year in 2023 would have Bloom on the next train out of here. I'm not sure there are many people on here that believe he'll stick around if they aren't in the playoffs next season.
  14. Well, that's like just your opinion man...
  15. @SPChrisHatfield Stephen Scott with his 5th HR of the AFL tonight. Red Sox with that many since 2005 (all had 5): Jeter Downs, 2021 Travis Shaw, 2013 Josh Reddick, 2008 I was going to play it down but that's not a bad list to be on. AFL is kind of already skimming off the chaff, but still.
  16. I liked the Phillies fine enough when I was younger. Mike Schmidt was a great player. My joke was obvious enough. I hope the Astros end up being the modern version of the 90's Braves.
  17. Too skinny for me.
  18. It depends on how much you value that defense in RF in Fenway. Maybe the Sox have a higher priority for defense and have an adjusted WAR calculation of their own like rWAR? Why always rely on someone else's metrics when you can develop your own? Maybe they give higher weight to defense? IDK.
  19. I'm not on his Only Fans.
  20. I don't know this story. It was alluded to yesterday as well.
  21. They need him to be healthy. Will he be? No, of course not.
  22. At that point, maybe they even just sign a guy really cheap like Simmons and hope for a bounce back year. If it doesn't work out, find someone cheap to trade for in season.
  23. MLB has its own history. When did free agency start? There were "free agents" as far back as 1931. Browns owner Phil Ball filed a lawsuit against Commissioner Kennesaw Landis that year, seeking a restraining order when Landis granted free agency to a number of Ball's players based on minor league farm system contract violations.
  24. Saying that there are no rules would be a rule.
  25. Oh yeah, well who did the 75/76 Reds sign then? Are these the arguments we have to have when the Red Sox suck and the WS is rained out?
