He's not the only guy making the calls or holding the money. There's a push and pull in the Red Sox ownership group between spending and not spending. Werner wants to spend. Henry doesn't want to spend.

It's hard to see what the organizational philosophy is on acquiring pitchers. They don't draft them. The ones they sign are old and on short contracts. Where's the long term solution?

Do you dismiss bad ST results? Niko Goodrum: 176 AVG, 17 AB, 3 H, 1 BB, 11 K, 399 OPS Duvall: 000 AVG, 11 AB, 3 BB, 6 K, 200 OPS Kiké: 077 AVG, 13 AB, 1 H, 2 BB, 4 K, 277 OPS Of all the hitters with bad numbers, Goodrum really sticks out, especially with his 500 BABIP. He's toast.

Yes, he uses the 40 man roster, but I don't think he uses the bottom of the 40 man roster well.

I think 5GG was under the assumption the Phillies were trading for Song's Rule 5 rights and would be able to pass him through waivers and get him off of the 40 man for the year.

I don't think you can outright dismiss ST results, but I don't think you can necessarily hang your hat on them either. It's nice to see the Sox play well together. Very good to see that the vibes are strong. A good clubhouse can turn a 78 win team into an 84 win team.

It's a modified TJS. There was always a risk that he'd be out the full season. If the team really sucks, why bring him back in August?

Bloom hasn't shown an interest in fast tracking anyone, even bullpen arms. I don't see that happening with Song if he's returned.

It depends on how Song looks. If he's a lost cause, the next 2 weeks may not matter. DD doesn't care about the bottom of the 40 man roster. He could care about sticking it to the Sox, but it's really just sticking it to Song.

You ignoring the injury history of a guy simply because of their uniform is ridiculous.

He's probably not close to being ready after not throwing off a mound for several years. May take months before he's ready to be in game shape. Maybe they are holding him back in hopes that his stuff ticks up so that he can look good at the end of Spring Training and maybe try to deal him? Or it's just slow and steady with him. Time is on the Red Sox side, unfortunately for the Phillies. The best thing for Song would be to get sent back to the Sox where he can go to A ball and be developed as a starter over the next few seasons. Being pushed into the pen at the MLB level this season after not pitching for 3+ years isn't ideal. I think he's mentally tough to handle it, but there's a better way to handle the development of a high ceiling pitcher like that.
