  1. I'll second that, since it would be awesome.....
  2. Signing Hampton is never a low-risk move, it can be high-reward if the stars align and the miracle occurs that he can stay healthy for more than 2 months.
  3. Dunn? He's a horrible fielder, and would probably force the yankees to play Damon in center, not a + option at the moment. Ramirez? His bat would justify Damon in center, but if they're crying poverty, then they can't go out and give a 75 million + multiyear deal to a 37-year-old OF. Nope, their main issue is pitching, finding another OF if Abreu leaves is not even a primary issue, since they have Nady and Damon for the corners, and could acquire someone later ( A center fielder is what they need) through FA or through trade. The reason why i think it's extremely stupid, it's because Abreu will sign with other team that has a need for a LH OF, (Mets,Cubs anyone?), and then the yanks will be left scratching their heads as to why the f*** didn't they offer him arb, that is, unless they plan to sign him at a lower AAV, and since the offseason isn't over, we need to see how will it all play out, however, this has "stupid move" written all over it.
  4. There are always ways to fit a productive bat into a lineup (See: Albert Pujols) Anderson is not a drawback to signing Teixeira, if he becomes what everyone expects him to be, he'll be inserted in the lineup with Papi and Tex both here......being creative is a trademark of this FO.

I don't mean to piss off Gom, and he's gonna let me have it...... But i think he's just trying to convince himself this "Gentlemen's agreement" is a reason not to pursue top-tier talent, when in reality, i think Cashman just sorta let it slip by and used said agreement as an excuse for his lack of action..... Tazawa formally requested not to be drafted because he wanted to come to America, so what agreement are you breaking by signing an undrafted player who has obviously chosen on his own to go to the States to play baseball?
  7. It's just that in my mind, Justin Masterson is nearly untouchable due to his current value to the Red Sox as an organization, not the market, but the Red Sox and their pitching staff the way it is currently constructed.

And, of course, in pitching ability alone, in one or 2 years that contract might seem like a bargain given the current price of pitching.

That $51 million posting fee is starting to pay itself off, isn't it? And after so much criticism, this seems like what FO was planning from the get-go anyways........
  10. I meant it in a way as saying that if i'm gonna send a guy like Youk packing, it better be for an elite offense/defense type of catcher......see: Joe Mauer.
  11. Ugh.....trading Youkilis instantly makes the team worse........
  12. We have Brown and Kottaras, but as much as i like Brown, acquiring someone who has a pretty good chance of becoming a franchise player seems much more appealing to me....
  13. Upside has a price in baseball.....and besides, if you sign Tex you need to trade Lowell so why not package him with someone and fill a hole......seems pretty logical to me.
  14. There's still a pretty realistic chance the Sox sign Derek Lowe.........
  15. But clutch and an extraordinary RF......
  16. I beg to differ, since IMHO, these are stepping stones to a much bigger trade, probably for a Catcher.
  17. And it'd take a hell of a lot more than that to pry them both loose anyways......
  18. It'd take a hell of a lot more to pry the King and Clement from Seattle, sir.
  19. The idea of trading a proven major league player in his prime to keep a declining, coming-from injury player seems ludicrous to me, trading Youk to keep Lowell seems unrealistic at best to me.
  20. And so is this one.
