Hated the Story signing when it was made. He could transform into prime Nomar with better defense from here on out, and I'll still hate it. Story was just a suspect player in my book, and they had better options that offseason.
I saw an interview with him really laying into the Yankees for f***ing with his pitch mix. That's where I get it from, but it was probably not a factor.
I'm thinking it may have taken more years and money to bring him back to the AL East after that horrible Yankees experience, but that's just me spitballing.
Player A: 119 G, .746 OPS, 100 OPS+, -7 DRS
Player B: 49 G, .764 OPS, 103 OPS+, -6 DRS
Player A is Jonathan India, player B is a 2B already on the Red Sox roster.
Different situations. It looked like they signed him instead of Mookie. Yamamoto is, more likely than not, a generational talent, and a highly marketable Japanese star. A blockbuster signing, if you will.
I'm not saying this specific comment was wrong, as that's the reason I highlighted it. But the article was definitely a hit piece, a tradition of Red Sox ownership. Both things are not mutually exclusive.
