  1. Rangers in 7, with Clifton Phifer Lee, who is untouchable right now, winning two games, CJ Wilson winning one, and a fourth one being won in a slugfest. The Rangers are not the Twins.
  2. I have no prediction. There's always the possibility of an absolute unknown (Lewis) or a guy who's been a bust all year long (Burnett) to decide it's time to sack up and give his team the boost to win the series. I won't pretend like i know exactly how effective some of these guys could or couldn't be against the Yankees because i haven't seen them enough to have a really well thought-out opinion about them. But, this is a short series, and anything can happen.
  3. So Tommy Hunter and Colby Lewis can get hammered, but Texas can't hammer any of the non-CC starters? News to me.
  4. Cliff f***ing Lee, ladies and gentlemen.
  5. Texas looks like a much better matchup. Two tough lefties (the Yanks' fatal weakness), an explosive offense, and a very good bullpen.
  6. The impact is not likely to translate itself into a $5 million AAV increase, because, as you said yourself, Martinez is horrible defensively, older, and really not geared towards being a full-time catcher. I don't need to be a businessman to know this, but i know that teams place a certain value on every aspect of a player's skillset, and that translates into money. In V-Mart's case, chances are it's not going to translate into anything more than 13 mill per year. The problem, IMO, isn't AAV, but rather the amount of years, that's the part where one team may end up shooting themselves in the foot. Anything more than 4 years will become an albatross at the back-end of the contract.
  7. I require that the word "mate" be used more often in this thread. That is all.
  8. Not necessarily ignorant, but too often bias and/or misguided. Besides, aren't you supposed to be a closet Yankee fan? Who's to say you're not a closet Jets fan as well.
  9. And because of that .030 difference in OPS (which is not the reason V-Mart was a better hitter than Posada anyway) you're trying to sell us the fact that he may see himself as an 18 mill player, limiting the chances of him re-signing. Dude, just like in your Beckett assessment, simple logic not only eludes you, you do every possible effort to crush it. No team in their right mind is going to massively overpay Martinez, because, you know, they use simple logic, and the same problems that you have mentioned about Martinez (and, well, every other Red Sox player ever) is something every other team is well-aware about. Be consistent. Your initial assessment was fair. Don't screw it up with your usual dose of bias.
  10. I guessed the rest of this post as soon as i read the first line. Funny how now you decide to admit V-Mart's a better hitter than Posada. Anyone got the chart handy?
  11. Calling it now: If Martinez goes elsewhere, the whining will reach the Heavens, and this time it will be warranted. There is absolutely no excuse for the Sox not to re-sign Martinez unless they have a better option in mind, and Salty is not a better option.
  12. Because Duensing didn't give Gardy the opportunity to f*** it up.
  13. LF *or DH* (Damon), RF (Ordonez), C (Laird), 3B (Inge), SP (Bonderman). 55 million coming off payroll. 1B occupied by a premiere player. Real payroll needs to be right around 100 mill. How do you fit a guy who you should rotate between C, 1b, DH and is probably going to command 12 mill a year into that equation. Lots of holes to fill, not a lot of money. I'll bet dollars to doughuts they fill the position internally/on the cheap with Alex Avila is either starting or in a platoon with a cheap catcher in 2011.
  14. The FO had a deal in place with Bay, and pulled it back because of medical concerns, completely different scenario. Nothing is a lock in baseball, but the FO has every possible advantage and the most pressing need (Production at C is hard to come by) to strike a deal with Martinez.
  15. Do you really think Colorado or Detroit have enough money to hand V-Mart a 3-4 year deal making around 12 mill a year? Doesn't seem like it. The Tigers have a huge amount of Free Agents, need to deal with a number of arbitration cases, and need to shed payroll, trying to keep it around or below 100 million. Doesn't seem like they'll be handing a lot of 12 million dollar contracts. Ditto for the Rockies, who, unless the Tigers, have a decent option in Ianetta. The truth is, there is no excuse for the Red Sox not to bring back V-Mart unless they screw up the negotiations or simply don't want him back that bad. They have more resources than anybody else who may currently looking for a catcher, and the "Home-Field Advantage".
  16. Lol Twins.
  17. Initially, this thread brought copious amounts of Lol and Win. But you guys have sucked the fun right out of the thread. Shame on all of you.
  18. Head hurts. Brb, need Ibuprofen.
  19. Holy s***, can you please not start with this f***ing idiocy again? He's not signing with the Guardians.
  20. Lol Twins.
  21. The Cards are "wrecking their budget". Pujols will retire a Cardinal. They won't let him go after signing Holliday to a 7-year deal mostly to keep Pujols happy.
