    It is probably same as playing Mollina everyday who has no offense either. Mollina might be better than Cash in terms of throwing runners out. Edit - Cash's value dminishes considerably if he is not catching Wakefield - so he is less valuable for the Yankees than Red Sox.

    Tito's loyality to Papi will be a bigger problem. This will nor help the team not will it help Ortiz to figure out things as he will be under more pressure to perform on the 3 slot. Ortiz is the my MVP of the Red Sox - forever. To me he is more valuable than Ruth, Williams, Frisk, Yaz etc. That said - we can put his photo on Mt. Rushmore - but we need to get him out of the 3 slot right now. I heard that Einstein was booed during his final days at Princeton - the last thing I want to see is Ortiz getting booed at Fenway.

    May be the Yankees will pick him up. Their bullpen is broken and they love washed up Sox players. If he goes to the Yankess - that will be actually getting something for him.

    Define done. He will never be what he used to be. He will never be an elite hitter of the game. He might be servicable hitter who plays no position. I will be shocked if he hits 20 HR's. But hitting 20 HR is underperformance for a good DH - let alone big papi.

    I am more shocked that he took the risk to shame his legacy as the best hitter of the generation than to know actually he did it. What could it be to motivate him to take PED at this stage of his career ? - it is a loose/loose situation. Baseball testing is so strict that a well respected player like Manny just should not have done it. It is like you see a cop car - and decide to speed to get caught - I don't get it. If this was last year when he was playing for a contact - it would have made some sense.

    I honestly like a rolling DH than a designated DH like Ortiz. If we get Hanley at all ( chances are almost nill) - he can be on the field lot more than Ortiz. Edit - I understand your logic with the age - some people are just meant not to be position player though because their defense is bad. Ryan Howard comes to mind - dude would be better off DHing in AL IMO.

    I agree with your timeline. I do not see anything physically wrong with him - the only way to explain is that it is a prolonged slump and he might be able to break out of it. Tito will play him the entire year irrespective of how he bats.
