  1. No, Boras is trying to convince the Nationals 7/175M is a steal for the type of player Fielder is
  2. A motivated Manny bent on trying to clean up his image might be worth a minor league deal. There are a lot worse players to have coming off the bench. The Sox need some RHH. I think it would make an interesting story. It's not as though it will come with a huge financial risk. It will be a small contract financially for one year. If he acts up it would not be hard to cut bait and move on. If he signed a minor league deal with the Sox I would not be upset.
  3. It's for one year worth 8.5M-10M from what I have read.
  4. Good depth move. Nothing risky about a minor league deal.
  5. He was assistant GM until 2005.
  6. Byrnes(current SD GM) is also from the "Theo" tree.
  7. This team is going to be fun to watch. They will either be really good, or a complete grease fire.
  8. The Commissioner before Goddell(I'm not even trying to spell his name) was fairly popular wasn't he? I wank Mark Cuban to win or get some team(no AL EAst teams) at some point. I think he would be awesome for LA and/or MLB.
  9. Ya I agree, it seems former Theo guys always do him a solid. But to be honest, Theo basically got Byrnes the SD job lol
  10. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/01/cubs-acquire-anthony-rizzo.html . Nice move for the Cubs. They didn't give up much. Would have thought TB would have offered more then that.
  11. Your better off staying coma toast until February if you want to know where Prince is going
  12. It's more like 1/3 of the season. But I see where you are coming from. If they do decide to move one it will have more to do then just where the stand come the trade deadline. First if either player is in their long term plans they absolutely need to try and sign them to extensions before the season. If they can't, and feel as though they are really far apart and they are out of it in July then maybe. Other then that I expect them to maybe go after Pena or Kotchman type to try and stabilize the offense until Braun returns. Even without Braun their offense is average.
  13. Marlins trade Gaby+ for Garza. Sign Fielder for 7 years 154M, load the first three years at 25M per and give Fielder an opt out clause. He then opts out and signs a 6 year deal at 22M per somewhere. Thus making his total for the 2 contracts 8 years almost 210M. If he struggles for 3 seasons, he doesn't opt out and collects just under 20M for the remaining 4 years of his deal as the Marlins trade him to the AL Boras gets his 200M, Fielder gets top $ for 3 seasons. Marlins get to chase a WS for a few seasons and see if they can get the fan base to keep the ballpark full.
  14. Hahaha that was hysterical
  15. I'm not seeing Quentin holding up in SD playing RF. I don't know for sure but I'm guessing he will be playing LF next season. But Denorfia may still be available. I can't see the asking price being too high.
  16. Padres have some depth at P in the minors. They were going to start losing some of these guys in the Rule 5 draft anyways. Now they can hold onto Carlos for a few months, hope he hits well, then flip him at the deadline for a prospect or 2 at a position of greater needed. He could also be flipped before the season. On the surface Williams seems inconsistent, but this is a good trade. One of the guys was at one time highly touted and the other guys is a possible SP. Quentin is a streaky hitter that plays bad defense and has leg issues. Williams saves 7.5M, has a possible cheaper replacement that could produce at similar levels. Or he could have just made enough room financially to make a serious run at Cepedes.
  17. Any deal for Lincecum starts with Jacoby IMO.
  18. I think it be a "Soriano" type move.
  19. I'd be ok with them going with Sweeney/Aviles/Mcdonald in RF. There are not any real great options or fits currently available IMO. They could go with those 3, then see how Kalish is doing and/or see who is available at the TDL. After that I think they need to look into SP depth. I take it right now Miller, Tazawa and Doubront are the pitchers in the minors for depth currently(I admit I'm a little behind, just really getting back into things since the end of the season). I think they should sign Harden and Webb both to one year deals(possibly minor league) worth 1M base +500K-1M in incentives. Let them battle it out for the 5th spot. If Bard can't handle starting the other one can jump in. Those 5 guys should provide enough depth until June-July when they can re-evaluate the SP trade market. The only trade that makes sense right now is Garza. But I'm torn about giving up the prospects. One side of me thinks he be a great 3-4 for this win now team. And giving up prospects who are probably blocked wouldn't be so bad. I would rather they sign the low risk guys for short money and hold on to the prospects, let the Mariners get a taste of what life is now gonna be like with the Rangers and Mariners becoming NY and Boston west and try and pry Pineda or Felix away from their cold dead fingers Maybe not Felix, but if Seattle misses out on Fielder they might listen. If they sign him, no chance either one gets moved.
  20. I think he signs a one year deal with the Rays.
  21. I've read multiple stories about Sweeney's knee's being shot. Is there any truth to these claims?
  22. I'd like to see them bring in Andruw Jones for the platoon partner for Kalish.
