  1. Arod is old and most likely been juicing his whole career. His body is damaged from the use to the point where the effects are working as well or at all. This is all guess work on my behalf. Just a theory to Jacko's statement of why he still sucks.
  2. I think like dojji said it's a bit of both. It's good publicity move as the team trys to rebuild appearances after a down period. But I also think it's a smart baseball move. Having guys like Tek and Pedro around for young guys to pick their brains is a never bad thing.
  3. How do you figure? Please enlighten us with your knowledge of the Atlanta farm system.
  4. The base isn't bad but I wonder what the incentives can bring it to. Hopefully this doesn't get me called a honk, but honestly if your a SP looking to build value and given the choice between the Mets and Red Sox, your probably going with the Mets. Easier NL, pitchers park(for the time being, will see how the new alignment works out), much better shot at making the Mets rotation.
  5. Really man? There.Is.No.Spot.For.Him. I know your smart. But your being really thick on this for some reason. The Sox have no room for a starter on a major league deal right now. Unless I missed it somewhere along the way, I have not seen anything saying all 5 of the current Sox SP will not be ready by opening day. Lackey included. I also have a hard time seeing a pitcher like Marcum, looking to rebuild his value signing with a team that has no guaranteed spot for him, let alone one in the AL East. Why would he have done that?
  6. They don't have a spot for him. The absolute only chance he has is if someone goes down to injury and he has a great spring. But as soon as the pitcher is ready to go he will be back down to AAA. He is injury depth this season as he builds his innings up in AAA. He's probably one of the guys I'm biggest on and I do want to see him with the Sox. But he's a prospect coming off injury and there is no reason to break the plan they have for him. Just because his name isn't Strausburg doesn't mean his future shouldn't be accounted for.
  7. Why do you act like some is always trying to pull the wool over your eyes? If you don't think having someone like Pedro around could have a positive effect on multiple levels for the Franchise I don't know what can be done for you.
  8. It's partially a PR move. Anytime you bring in someone like Pedro there is going to be plenty of publicity. Honestly I'd rather they do this kind of stuff for publicity as opposed to making flashy baseball moves to generate buzz. But you have to see it's also a good baseball move as far as having a person with Pedro's knowledge passing it on to your young pitching talent. I'm glad he's passing that on to my teams players. If he was doing this for some other club I would seriously think the Red Sox were completely missing out on a great opportunity. That and it's a direct line into the Dominican. I'm sure a lot of promising young arms would love to work with Pedro. Now they just have to sign with the Red Sox to do it
  9. Well he signed in Baltimore. Not like we won't find out if he can stand the AL East or not at least I honestly didn't think he was going to get a ML deal. That's something the Sox can't do right now with the rotation full. Their "depth signings" have to be guys on minor league deals. If Baltimore got him on a minor league deal I'd be more upset.
  10. Considering he's coming off TJS, has no track record in the MLB, and as it stands the rotation is full of ML signed SP I don't see how it would be a "dolt" move. You may have been being sarcastic lol There is no reason to rush this kid even if he has a great spring. He might come up to fill in for injury during the season, but other then that I think he spends the year at AAA.

I'm not huge fan, but them playing together might will each of them to fulfill all the promise each player has shown. Regardless that's a pretty nice OF in ATL
  12. I already liked him a lot, I'm getting a nice window seat on the wagon early.
  13. I'd love to see Pedro around. Even better if he continues mentoring a guy like De le Rosa.
  14. Victorino isn't just a speed guy. Prior to last season he was a top 8 OPS OF.
  15. If Seattle is serious about an extension it's going to be Matt Cain level.
  16. I read he wants something longer. He would be a fool to only take a 4 year deal. Usually to give them leverage over the team on the list. Big market teams are have the means to sweeten the pot either with an extension or a flat bonus for waiving the clause. I don't remember who it was but I remember someone getting like 2M to waive theirs.
  17. Baseball is surprisingly big here and they have some really nice complex at certain clubs. There are a few teams around that have spent a couple million on the complex. I grew up in Maine so I know the pain of watching the weather reports all march and into april and praying for that last big snow storm to stay away when you could finally see the grass. SO having an indoor facility has been an outstanding opportunity. We train inside 3 times a week from December to March and then have a few weeks of Spring games with competitions starting in April and going to September. We have a 6 week off period in the middle of the summer. Dutch people are all about their vacations lol
  18. Felix may be a pipe dream. But it's slowly becoming less of one. As long as he doesn't sign an extension he's going to be available via trade or in 2 seasons via free agency. That's just fact. IMO I think it's very unlikely he will sign an extension with either Seattle or the team that trades for him. Someone will have to seriously over pay to get him to walk away so close to free agency. So I would rather they wait for him to hit FA. Another fact is Lackey, Dempster and Lester could all be off the books after '14. And they have a s*** ton of money free by then. So they will have the cash to do it.
  19. Ok, although I don't agree with you, I'm not going to deny your argument. The SP is a concern. I think our expectations just differ on what we expect from the staff. Which is not really a big deal.
  20. Yes but that is because your under the assumption no one pitches better then last season. And you can say now they should have gone total rebuild. I was pumping that idea early when Lester for Myers was being floated around. I believe you were one of many that were very non receptive of moving any ML talent for prospects and going into full rebuild mode. Again if they had gone into total rebuild, you would have been first in line screaming that ownership was pocketing all the money and not putting a good product on the field. I'm not saying the line behind you wouldn't have been long with people screaming the same thing, but there is no way you would not have been killing the FO/Ownership if they did that. Not unless they cut ticket prices, and I think both of us can agree that ain't happening.
  21. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mlb/news/20130122/year-after-effect-verducci-stephen-strasburg-chris-sale/?sct=hp_t12_a6&eref=sihp Doubront just made the list. Hopefully he is one of the lucky ones. Verducci's list was 9/14 last year and has had pretty good success with this. If you have never read one of the articles you should, interesting read.
  22. They could have done 3 things this winter, 1. Total rebuild, no major FA signings, kept payroll low. 2. Retool with short term deals to keep the team interesting while they wait on the arrival of a few key prospects. 3. Fuk it all!!!! Spent huge money and years on Grienke, Sanchez and Hamilton and glut up the Rotation and ear mark a lot of future money on guys that are ? You would have lost your s*** if they didn't spend anything and went with choice 1 I believe they went with choice 2. Choice 3 would have been flashy but most likely put them into a similar situation they just were able to get out from under. Doesn't seem like the best choice.
  23. In other news, when the hell do the trucks head south?
  24. Be careful, you'll be labeled a "honk" with that kind of optimism for the pitching staff. There are some under the impression that those guys won't be able to find the mound, let alone the strike zone ever again.
  25. 20-30 games. Expecting Napoli to play more then 130-140 games is a bit rosey. He's likely to get a good amount of time in the OF platooning with Gomes in LF and injury insurance for Ellsbury. Getting Jones would really limit Kalish and I'm not sure they are ready to do that. Jones is someone they could come back to later in the season if Kalish isn't working out or someone gets injured.
