I think 6/150M is extremely optimistic. And no way imo he signs after 2013 season when he can wait mere weeks to let the open market set his value. If the Yankees want to take him off the market they are going to pay through the nose. Tex deal+. If he had another agent it be a different story. No way Boras let's him take a discount on what will probably be his only time on the market in the midst of his prime. I still believe given the chance the Dodgers are going to give a blank check to Cano next offseason.

To get him to sign before free agency the Yanks are going to have to bend over a barrel. They are certainly capable of doing that and giving into whatever Boras wants. But do you really want them too? He's 31. This is Arod(minus all the PED stuff) all over again. Cano is good now and you don't want him playing anywhere else. But when he's 38-39 getting 25M a year it won't be worth it. Right now in his prime he's an offensive threat but can be very streaky. Fast forward a few years and this deal could be making the annual "worst contract in baseball" columns. I'd be torn if I was a Yankee fan too. I'd want him but not at Boras's price.

I don't expect Marrero for 2+ seasons. I think they could go with Iggy at SS if need be. But that only works if Middlebrooks and Xander are both productive at the CIF and they get some power guys for the COF spots. That's probably the only way they can get away with a defense only SS.

For a pretty minor move it's a decent pick up. Guy had good power in the minors and then injured his should on what opening day last year? vs LHP .300/.341/.462 vs RHP .241/.323/.398 Not sure how he's managed that being a LHH

I've mentioned this scenario before. I don't think it's something they need to implement now. But it's an interesting thought for possibly next season or the season after. I agree if Xander can stick at SS he should. But if moving him to 3B helped the overall team they I don't think it should be overlooked. The Sox lack a power prospect for 1B. Middlebrooks is a solid 3B but he's not Lowell, Beltre, and Rolen level. So moving him to 1B wouldn't hurt his value to the team. Xander is the obvious candidate to move to 3B. Moving him to 3B would allow him to fill out physically without worrying(to extent, we don't need him going all kung fu panda) about damaging his fielding range. That would leave the defensive whiz and Marrero eventually at SS. With a young homegrown infield taken care of the team would then be able to focus more resources on the COF(most of us expect Bradley to take over CF, not a given though) and the pitching staff. So locking the IF up long term could actually be one of the things that helps the team sure up it's weaker cogs in the OF and P going forward.

Nope. They have there opening day SS in Drew. There's no reason to rush Xander and start his ML service clock on top of that. I think he will have a better shot at breaking camp next year.

Someone could have mentioned this before but with no big 1B prospect in the system why not move Middlebrooks to 1B next season, Bogaerts to 3B with Iggy taking over at SS(Marrero possibly taking it from him eventually)?

Bard is going back to the BP. Lester, Buchholz, Dempster, Felix(if he's not too out of shape, that's the latest rumor) will all be in the rotation. Lackey looks like he's actually in a shape other then round and probably will be ready to go at the beginning of the season. They are stretching Morales and Aceves out as starters. Behind them it goes to prospects like DLR, Webster, Wright, so on and so forth.

How do you know they passed on him rather then Haren choosing an NL contender in a year in which he hopes to rebuild his free agent value? I missed the interview where he said he was hoping to play in Boston, but never got an offer. I did see the one saying they had conversations but ultimately he chose the Nats. Is there another one?

Damnit Fred, every time you get on a good baseball discussion you fall right back into a700's drama... And we don't need to try and get him or anyone else banned. If everyone would just ignore him he'd have no one to argue with, and with that he'd have nothing to actually discuss and hopefully take his monarchy elsewhere.

Because it's more then one pitch it usually means it's mechanical. Fixing the mechanical flaws improves your motion to the plate, velocity/power behind the pitch and the plane in which it travels on. We got to work with some slow motion cameras and motion sensors as part of a training clinic we had this off season. Our best young pitcher strapped everything on and it was extremely cool and provided us with tons of good data. One of the things that stood out to me was with just a 2" difference in elbow height caused a significant difference in the plain the ball traveled on. It just goes to show you that a pitcher being able to repeat his motion over and over again throughout the course of a season is not only very important, but extremely difficult.

Probably the most eye to eye we have ever been on any given issue. But some around here would have you believe he will never find home plate again even with a tom tom strapped to his ass.

Putting him on ignore helps screen most of the BS around here. I would highly suggest it for your viewing pleasure.

The AL Central is wide open imo. Minnesota seems like the only below average team. KC, CWS and Cleveland are all about the same talent wise. Detroit is above the rest but not by leaps and bounds. They are one or two key injuries from being right in the middle of the pact. I can not remember a time that the AL divisions were so close top to bottom. There are no clear favorites and only a few teams considered to have little chance at competing(Houston and Minnesota are the only two that come to mind that I would be "surprised" to see make the playoffs).

It's usually not something to worry about unless they keep pushing the strained muscle. Jacko, what was the timeline with Pineda? Was it soreness he tried to work through and made it worse, or did they shut him down at the first sign of stiffness only to find a major injury after the examination? I learned the hard way with working through stiffness. I messed my shoulder up first season here and pushed through and ended up making it worse and paid for it for a couple seasons. Now that I'm a coach as well I monitor every ache and pain of my players more closely and anyone with pain or abnormal soreness gets shut down immediately and worked back in slowly. On our small scale, this method has helped a lot with arm injuries.
