  1. Velocity is very important with Bard as 97mph wildness is better then 92mph wildness. But we can't just look at velocity in ST. He may have had a specific assignment to work on for this outting. We have to look at the pitch selection too. It could be a case where he was working on his secondary stuff and it was erratic(probably the reason for an assignment if there was one). If it was all FB's in the low 90's it's a bit more worrying.
  2. I don't think they are miserable when their team wins. But like most fans winning it all doesn't happen every year. SO there end up being secondary things that give you enjoyment as a fan of your team when winning it all is no longer an option. Like myself for instance, I start every year with the hope of a Championship(even though I understand it's not likely). At some point during the season it will become clear that the team is going to contend or they are not, either by personal opinion or sheer math. Once the chance to win it all ends, me personally I tend to focus on the prospects, casually look ahead to free agency. And that's where I get my enjoyment from the game when my team can't win it all. The ones I spoke of earlier start every year thinking the team will fail. Their secondary enjoyment comes from being able to point fingers and thump their chests and say "haaa I told you so". In the instances the team actually wins or makes a deep run in the playoffs(whatever your personal bar of success is) they are happy. But they are quick to move on and call it luck and get right back to what the holes are in the team going forward. It's just who they are, every fanbase has them. Just like every fan base has fans like me, or fans that are complete homers and so on and so forth. I think a lot of arguments start around here because people forget that just because we root for the same team it doesn't make us the exact same type of fans. I think it would do us all some good to occasionally remind ourselves of this so when someone new pops in we all don't look like a bunch of douche bags bickering back and forth Not saying we all should agree all the time, just some arguments are just and some are just bored mud slinging that make all parties involved look ridiculous, me included.
  3. The Sox had it better then some teams. But I get what your saying. A couple players every 4 years isn't that bad though. You did miss out on a possible Aceves inspired brawl though, that I can see being upset over And because of the WBC we got to see Bogaerts prove in a SSS that he can handle 3B. While I hope he sticks at SS for the most part, it's nice to know he's capable of picking up another position if needed.
  4. That had to have been nerve wracking to watch your one last healthy middle of the order bat playing out there.
  5. LOL I didn't realize my comments were going to cause a meltdown a700, really everything is not about you. If I want to say something about you, I think I have shown I'm not afraid to put your name along side it. It is curious why you felt the need to defend yourself though? I do agree that the difference of opinions has been a little more humane this off season as compared to others. I think it's in most part that the active posters that have been on the board are posters that have been around awhile. Long enough for everyone to kind of know their schtick and what not. I mean when I first joined everyone took every chance they could to argue with Jacko, but now it's just general conversation, a laugh when he says something outlandish because you "know it's Jacko". That and the trolls have been less. I mean we had the one guy that had a hard on for you and Jacko for like a week, but for the most part no noob has come in stirring the pot. Also if your going to claim to be the "King" of talksox, try not to get so sensitive every time someone hucks a rotten tomato at your royal carriage as it rolls down the street. The bulls eye on your back is just one of the perks of being the King.
  6. I think he has done a pretty decent job cleaning up the mess that he was handed. He got rid of a lot of dead weight and the system hasn't looked this good in awhile.
  7. Unfortunately it won't. They will call it dumb luck and start in with the same BS the day after the WS ends. No amount of winning will change them.
  8. Well I kinda meant around here. I don't honestly recall anyone here touting the kid as a "top" prospect". And that is the way SCM33 was making it sound.
  9. Last I read on him he was still working as a SP. I could be behind though,
  10. No not you directly, it was a preemptive strike for the crowd that was going to use that scenario as a scapegoat. You know the group that believes every player should come to the Sox and if they don't it means Cherries got his lunch ate.
  11. Who is calling Iggy a top MLB prospect? I don't think either camp, even the side that likes him has ever called him a top prospect. Everyone has pretty much known from the start he was a defensive whiz with a huge ? with the bat. In fact most of the argument between the two sides is if he will hit above the Mendoza line or not. I think you are the only one to ever put Iglesias and top prospect together in the same sentence.
  12. When it comes to Cherries it is abundantly clear haters are just going to hate. He's looking for depth(like most other GM's) and gets crap for it. If he had come out and said " no we like our depth and aren't in the market" the same people would be calling him a baboon ass for believing the rotation could make it through the season unscathed. And let's not go the "but he should have already signed more depth during the off season" routine. We have no idea how many players the tried to bring in as depth signings. I don't think it's hard to believe that you can't convince every fringe SP to come to your team as depth and most likely start the season in the minors when there are other/better opportunities around the league to crack someone's 25 man roster. I'm not saying Cherries is right, wrong, smart or dumb. I'm not a Cherries sympathizer, like I said before I'm pretty much indifferent on the guy. I like somethings, I don't like somethings and I move on. Just look at the situation for what it is. I just don't understand the stance of no matter what the guy does it's wrong.
  13. Ya if anything I see Sweeney in the OF and Gomes DHing.
  14. He's having a good spring and has worked to make himself as versatile as possible. I agree that he has a good chance to make the team or that some GM calls up interested in him.
  15. Also when it comes to Vazquez we have to remember he's 22. We all know most C develop offensively a bit later then most. If he's 26+ hitting around the Mendoza line then his window to be a league starter is probably closing rapidly. He still has time to develop offensively.
  16. My view has shifted as well with the DL list crowded and the info about the whole bring him up send him down for 20 days to save control on him until 2019. I'm much more open to the idea then say even a week ago.
  17. He's the shiny new toy this spring. People are excited and rightfully so. But that excitement is making some forget those facts Dojji. Could he jump from AA to the bigs and have an impact? Sure. But I think that case would be more of an exception rather then the rule. One 0-15 slump and everyone will come back to Earth
  18. Then he will probably be sent to AAA for 3 weeks just like Harper was after tearing it up in ST.
  19. BSN07

    Theo Epstein

OK maybe you can say that about the 04 team, but the team goes nowhere without the addition of Ortiz and Schilling, both moves done under Theo and company's watch. The 07 team had his finger prints all over it and he deserves as much credit as anyone for that Championship.
  20. BSN07

    Theo Epstein

Theo is a good FO guy. Some of his/the current FO signings were questionable. But his drafting and building of the farm system is really good. No one Red Sox fan should argue that, and if they do they have an agenda. The team has had lots of homegrown talent come to the bigs and produce at a high level.
  21. I'm not a hypocrite, I said he was crazier then Tavarez lol I think it's also what your doing when you act out. When Manny was being Manny he wasn't causing brawls on the field or throwing his bat at a pitcher cause the pitcher had the audacity to strike him out(I know Manny got worse towards the end and his altercations became much more negative, but for the most past you could just chalk him up to being a manchild). Tavarez would go off the rails a couple times a season, but for the most part he was a good solider in between. Aceves seems like he's being a dick even between his on field out bursts.
  22. Dojji we should go with Jacko on this one. If there is any expert on regressing defensive SS, it's a Yankees fan Sorry Jacko I couldn't resist
  23. In all honesty if this was a player on the Red Sox I would just assume he's out for the year and anything they get out of him if anything at all this season will be a bonus. A tear is a horse of a different color.
  24. I'm with ya on this Fred, seems like a fair comparison to me
  25. Ya with Morales on the shelf, they will need Aceves for the time being. Although if he can't go out without throwing at batters when he gives up a hit, I don't think he's going to be that much of a help. This is one of those draw backs with a guy that has talent but has an episode of looney toons stuck on repeat in his head.
