Red Sox set to announce signing of Japanese reliever
BSN07 replied to riverside sluggers's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
Well we can't be mad at this deal. Theo got us a very inexpensive LHP to come out of the pen. Even if the guy is just ok, the price we got him at compared to what all the other relief pitchers are getting contract wise, this guy is a steal. -
If the Sox get offered those three players just for Manny, i'm sorry to all the"don't trade Manny"people out there but they would sooooooooo have to pull the trigger on that one. That being said, I really don't see SD ponying up that much for Manny. There not that deep at pitching( starter wise) and Gonzalez looks like he might be a stud. If Theo pulls that trade off, then maybe he is the boy genius everyone used to think he was. Yes our offense would not be as potent, but we could get by, besides our starting rotation would be just Nasty. Everyone in the rotation would be capable of winning 15+ games. I would rather see us with a dominating rotation and win in OCT. then have a hi ranking offense and get sent home in the first round because we have no pitching like the NYY.

Let's say that Wang and Willis pretty much cancel each other out in the skill department. With both of them being good, I would take either for my team, if I had would pick, I would pick Willis over Wang . Because Willis is LH. LH pitchers with his stuff are alot more rare then RH pitchers with Wang's stuff. Most dominate pitchers in the game today are RH. So knowing they come along more often then LH, I would grab the lefty while I could.

I agree with GOM. There should be two awards. Ted Williams isn't a bad name either, for this one should go to the player with the best overall personal performance( DH's, and everyday players only tho, no pitchers, they have the CY Young). The the MVP should go to the player who contributes the most to his team, as in game winning hits/HR, total wins, playoff births ect. . There's enough formulas out there today to figure out which player has had the most impact on his team, get like the top five in every league and let the writers decide who they feel to be most valuable to his team. Same goes for our Ted Willaims award, take the top 5 or so from each league and let someone decide who had the best personal performance. Let's not go with just HR and RBI tho. Lets take into consideration OBP, OPS, runs scored, assists, steals, hits, extra base hits, games played. All of that should be considered not just guys who hit the most HR.
-
Jackson, I read that one yesterday and took it as a good sign that he was going to be traded. But most writers are still saying it's a 50-50 shot. Whatvere happens I really don't care. Just aslong as we fill our other needs and don't spend all our time with the Manny situations.

I give up on this hole tradin Manny thing. If he goes thanks for the memorys, if he stays then glad to have you. I won't waste anymore braincells on the discussion.

I'll have to admit, with whats left out the at SS in the FA market besides Lugo, Hall wouldn't be a half bad choice. Inexpensive, good D wherever he plays( SS,2B,3B ) , and a pretty nice bat. Not sure how his numbers would translate to the AL. I don't think he hit 30 HR, but I would guess that 20 would be realistic, and that is decent production from SS. As far as what it would take to get him, Maybe a couple mid level prospects. That might sound hi for him but he did have a good year last year, which would no doubt raise his trade value for this offseason.
-
He´s either gonna start, or be part of some trade.
-
If CHW pull off this deal, Kenny Williams should got to prison for Grand Theft Pitcher! It´s a nice deal for them, they get rid of two potential FA, for a speedy, can play anywhere player in Figgins and a Stud pitcher that they have control over at low cost for years to come. They need a new pitching staff, Ozzie road those poor bastards like a mule the last two seasons.

GOM your gonna cause heart attacks for the weak hearted mebers of RSN with post like this:D Yes it be a wonderful pick up for you guys, but i'm glad you kept your feet firmly on the ground by saying you could dream couldn't you:thumbsup: . To get Willis, your probably looking at Melky( which he realy isn't the type of OF they want, they want a CF, and Melky is shady at best in CF), Sanchez, and probably two more high prospects. I think you would have to depart with your farm ace Hughes. The reason I think it would be so hi of a cost is as soon as teams find out that Willis is available, your going to have alot of teams interested and driving up the price. Most teams including the Red Sox( not saying they are but using them for argument sake) would easily beable to match a Melky, Sanchez package. EX. They could easily throw in Crisp/Ellsbury and two more of there arms that are in the minors. Which in my mind and not just because i'm a Sox fan is a better deal then what the NYY are offering. If Willis goes to NY, just expect to lose alot more prospects/players then just the two.

Indians make multi-year offer to Keith Foulke
BSN07 replied to riverside sluggers's topic in Other Baseball
GOM, mlbtraderumors.com had the site posted where you could look at the FA and find out if there an A,B, or C. Yes it is a shady site but the link is legit, look in the november archives. -
Well they are close to signing that LHP from Japan. So theres the LH for the pen.
-
Trust me I love Manny, but with that rotation I'll pack his bags for him:D With all those young arms in the rotation, it might make a few of our real young arms expendable, and if it was needed they might bring in a decent bat. 1B Gonzalez 2B Pedroia SS ? Find a young prospect or Lugo 3B Youk RF Drew CF Crisp or a big bat form another trade LF WMP C TEK 1.Schilling 2.Matsuzaka 3.Peavy 4.Beckett 5. Papelbon Even with no LH pitcher that is a scary scary rotation. With Manny gone our offense would not be as good but with that pitching it might not have to be. If this happens we could see a rotation that hasn't be seen since the 90's with ATL rotation of Smoltz, Glavine, Maddux, Avery/Millwood. Like I said I love Manny, but Pitching wins in October and that is what it is all about.

I love the fact that some NYY fans are trying there hardest to justify this bid. Some are like Jose Reyes said he was good:lol:. David Wright said he wasn't close to ML quality tho, basically saying theres no way anyone should bid on this guy:lol: In all fairness tho, some NYY fans have agreed in saying this is the just a horrific bid. I just like the fact that there will be no more discusion's saying we overpayed for Matsuzaka, all we have to do now is point at Igawa's bid:harhar: and it's then end of the argument. Listen I know both where a bit outrageous( well Matsuzaka's was, they haven't invented a word yet to describe what the NYY just did:thumbsup: .) But this just shows how crazy the market has gone. Anyone have Boras's number? I'm gonna start pitching in my back yard and hope someone will bid on me:thumbsup:

Well they made the right call with Pedro, it's only been a year since Damon left so let's see what he looks like in the 3rd and 4th year( which where the years the sox where weary of), Lowe has done decent in LA( but it's the NL West). Beckett has been here for one season so let's wait before we say he's a bust. We basically traded Renteria for Crisp so that's a wash. WMP for Arroyo( let's see him in a full season before we hop on one side of the fence or the other). As far as Hanley,Sanchez and Sanchez, they all play in the NL East( a far lower division talent and difficulty wise then the AL East), so they most likely wouldn't beable to do that good( Renteria had a good year in ATL( NL East) but we don't hear anyone bitching about trading him). Right now some of the trades look bad after "1" season, let's wait a bit longer to see how it all pans out.

If the Red Sox could get all three in return, as well as sending Lowell there as well, I think would be the absolute best deal they could get. It gives them another solid arm in the rotation, a bullpen arm and a young talented 1B that has the promise of good production. Move Youk to third. The only thing left to look for is a SS and maybe a closer if your not going to use linbrink. But that's alot SD would have to give up so I won't hold my breath, but that would be a very tempting deal indeed. No they won't be better "now"if they get rid of him. He is going to be 35, has knee issues and who knows what else. Yes he will produce for the next couple of seasons, but if he doesn't want to be in BOS, then get something for him now. No our lineup won't be as good but with our pitching we will still win games. With Matsuzaka,Beckett,Peavy,Papelbon, we will have the best rotation in baseball. We know pitching wins championships, load up on it when it's avaliable and then work on the offense. I for one would rather have all those arms for teams to have to get threw then Just one big hitter.

I know he is but if I played ball, then I probably want him to be my agent!

The Globe and Herald always say different and oposite things. The herald said the Sox where fading in the Lugo sweepstakes and that the Dodgers and Mets where in the lead. Which makes no sense because both of those teams are filled with infielders. As far as Manny goes the Globe says good bye to him and the Herald says keep him.
-
Yes, I agree with you on that point. But some 2nd tiers are starting to sign too, Eaton with Phillies, Williams in HOU, and I think I read Padilla is really close to signing back with TEX.

MLB cracking down on Matsuzaka negotiations
BSN07 replied to jacksonianmarch's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
You can find a guy off the street that can throw 84-86mph. He has a weak fastball and a looping curve. Reyes was trying to be the nice guy, and Wright just flat out told the truth, I'm not trying to change the post just a playful poke in the ribs now that both our teams have thrown big money at unproven guys. -
Well unless you have been living under a rock or something, then yes of course you have to know you wont get back equal value on Manny. He is the best RH hitter the game has seen in along time. But when the best hitter doesn't want to play for you, and becomes a distraction then I don't see the harm and trying to get the best deal you can for him and go from there. I got this from the Boston globe and thought if it was Peavy and Gonzalez then that might be about as close as a equal trade you might get. Of course I found this after I posted saying he should go to LA, but either deal is probably the best you will beable to get for him. The Sox also remained deep in Manny Ramírez trade talks with the Padres, with San Diego sweetening its original offer, according to a source with direct knowledge of the talks. The Padres are offering major league players for Ramírez, a package that presumably would have to include one of two pitchers: prime setup man Scott Linebrink or ace Jake Peavy. The Sox also have coveted Adrian Gonzalez, a lefthanded-hitting first baseman who put up outstanding numbers in his first full season in 2006: .304, 24 home runs, 38 doubles, and 82 RBIs. If that is the case then our rotation will be the best in the league by far, and with getting Gonzalez, Youk can be moved to 3rd and Lowell sent away for bullpen help. But it's speculation, just thought I would put it out there.

This hole offseason has gone loopy. We should expect the unexpected. There sitting there because for some reason theres no rush on these guys, maybe it's to wait until after arbitration so they don't loose the draft picks. Either that or they have told all teams interested that there in no rush to sign. Also I think they will let some of the 2nd tier types sign deals to kind of set the market for the so called top tier pitchers( Zito, Schmidt).
-
A one two punch of Zambrano and Schmidt is pretty nasty. With Hill, Maybe Prior and possibly another FA like Padilla or Meche that's a formatable rotation in any division. I would definatley say they would have the most talented team on paper in there division. And for Schillingisthenatural, if the Cardinals take a step back they will be under .500. They barely made the playoffs and got lucky they played a team with no experience. If the Cubs get Schmidt then I will say they are definatley a team to watch and be weary of.
-
If that's true, LAA is getting a pretty sweet deal. There getting a solider #2 Starter and a 3B thats hitting his prime. Yes there giving up Santanna, but since he isn't proven so him and Garcia cancel each other out, Crede is much better then Figgins, so I think there may be some prospects in the deal somewhere if theres a deal.

Red Sox persuing Okijama, Offer to Matsuzaka
BSN07 replied to Cityofchampions33's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
I think it's a smart move, bring a couple Japanesse guys in at the same time. Atleast that way they have someone to communicate with and make the transition to the states easier. I mean BOS isn't the easiest place in the world to play because of expectations, so anything that might help these guys get comfortable and relax i'm all for. Theres really no other LH out there so why not give it a shot, he should be cheap.
