HAHAHA glad to see your catching on Jackson:D
-
Timlin strained his shoulder in the WBC and never recovered. Okijima is a question mark MDC and Hansen where great until Tek went down and they had no guidance, plus it was the first years, look for both to be better with some experience under there bealt. I'm sure they hit that perverbial wall too, just like Paps did, most rookies do. Taveras looked lost for the first part of the season and when Seanez got cut it looked like he found his way again(maybe a wake up call or because he was starting) either way he showed he can still get batters out.
-
Whoever has the best shot at winning plus the money is where he will go. He learned his lesson last year joing the awful Houston team when he could have joined the NYY or BOS( at that point in time I thin BOS was still in 1st and NYY wasn't far behind). I thinks its NYY or BOS, I do'n't think Houston has the money, maybe if they are in 1st place or close, but I think he joins one of the other teams or retires. Sidenote: Let us not forget that at the trade deadline he did accept a trade to BOS but it was the owner that vetoed it.

He stated in an interview that he was not willing to invest big money in MR. Saying that the going rate for MR pitchers in this years market was too hi and he didnt feel comfortable doing what other teams where doing. Which I agree with him, even tho our pen sucks atleast its not full of mediocre pitchers that are making a ton of money like the Baltimore. I think if anyone has payed attention to interviews and articles( which I do cause I have nothing better to do besides read on the internet all day while I wait for a work permit) you would know that the sox weren't going to go and pay big money for MR. Maybe a closer if the deal was right. They should be getting somebody from the Marlins, because they want our CF Murphy, and I expect they will trade for either Cordero,Lidge or Otsaka for closer, or go with a young guy like they did with Paps last year. Timlin,Okjima,MDC,Hansen,Taveras is a decent start, nothing to boost about but not the worst either, add in a couple guys from trades and its and avg. to slightly above avg. pen( if we get a good closer). BP's unless you are LAA are very different from year to year, you more or less have to go the first half of the season and see what you got. NYY I would say is in better shape BP wise then the Sox. But if Proctor gets traded I think that really deminshes the quality, MO and Proctor are the dependable guys. Farsnworth is shaky at best. If proctor gets dealt I think the only thing better in your pen then in ours is obviously closer. Gonzalez is an unknown at this point if he is traded form the Pirates to NYY.

Maybe if they don't address the pen, but there still 2 months before pitchers and catchers report, lots of time for something to happen.

Well I said Hunter 4 years 60M thats 15M a season, and you agreed on the Wells contract, ok Jones is a little low Ill go 5-6 yrs 75-85M. All tho there could be that team out there that goes nuts and offers him a 7 year deal worth 100M+. I just made Hunter, Jones deals smaller because there older then Wells is all. And if thats the case then it will probably be NYY that go that hi, which then leaves Hunter to go to BOS on the shorter cheaper deal...... man wish I had thought of that before I posted the last time LOL It does seem more likely the Sox would go with the shorter less money deal. Ok new projections:D Hunter-Bos 4 years 60M Jones-NYY 6yrs 115M Wells-Texas 7yrs 135M+

Yes that is nice. Just aslong as we keep Manny this year I think where looking decent. I think Manny gets moved next offseason with 1 year left on his contract, or they could activate one of his options, then he has 2 years and someone might want him. I want Manny to stay but he will probably do his normal routine next year again, but this time I think he gets moved and we bring in one of the big CF to replace his bat( and basically his contract). I'm guessing Jones at this point out of the three. With a couple months to sit back and re tool the bullpen and not have to concentrate on anything else( SS,RF,SP,2B ), they do look to be heading in a good direction for this season and many to come.

This is a good move by Toronto. It shows there willing to pay to keep this guy there, but I'm reading between the lines here and I think they don't expect Wells to except that deal. They put it out there in the media so that when he decides to leave for Texas or wherever, they can tell there fans they tried but he wanted more money. They inturn( if he doesn't sign) have made a backdoor to escape all the fans backlash and look to make Wells look like a greedy bastard. They know he wants out of Canada. I think if he excepts that deal Toronto will be shocked.

I don't anticipate us getting Lidge. His name has been off the market so to speak for about a month now. If we trade I think we go for Cordero, even tho we will most likely have to give up more. I watched Cordero pitch in DC in 2005, he has great stuff and for a young guy his confidence level is right where you want it. He is reliable, and for his age has alot of experience closing games. His number might inflate a little coming to the AL East, but since hes so young there still time for him to adjust and bring them back down. If not Cordero or Lidge, the theres Gonzalez, but NYY are offering Proctor and Melky( which is absurd). If NYY is going to give that much up, i'd rather not see us top that deal, again if we had to give up that much Id rather it be Cordero. Then we have internal option, Hansen,Hansack both are big ?'s, but so was Paps heading into the season. My darkhorse pick( this is just me taking a guess for fun) Would be Bard. Yes I know hes a starter and hasn't been passed AA, but it be fun to watch him come in for one inning and let it rip at 100MPH, he hits 95-98 regulary during starts. You can get away with a little more when you hit 100MPH and only pitching one inning wouldnt be to stressful on his arm. Trust me I don't really expect to see this, I just felt like putting it out there:D

Sox/Yanks battle for Pirates' Mike Gonzalez
BSN07 replied to riverside sluggers's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
LOL A700:thumbsup: Look for us to get another MR pitcher from the Marlins for Murphy. There looking for a CF and its been said the eye is on Murphy. Which is good for us, if we get a decent arm for him to eat some innings out of the pen that be great. Besides Murphy is gonna be a decent player, but theres a log jam at CF and he will probably not get a chance on the SOX with Ellsbury coming up so fast. -
Holy s*** 30 HRS in 90 games? I'm in Holland where weed is legal and can be found anywhere, but I haven't smoked anything yet to make me believe in those numbers!hahaha if he makes it in to 75-90 games look for .290 BA 12-15 HRS 35-45 RBI and 50+K's. In all fairness he did pull off a .300 BA last season, maybe it's a sign of things to come, but unless Coco is traded or he gets alot of games in at 1B, hes not going to hit 30HR,if he was that good he would have a starting spot on the team already or other GM's would be beating down Theo's door to try and trade for him.

20-2 with a 2.15 ERA 200innings and 300 K's.... Just joking, had to put that one out there for Jackson:D I expect 14-16 wins, 5-7 losses 3.5-4.5 ERA 170-200 innings and 175-200 Ks, which is solid #2 stats. And I think that would be great for a first year, those numbers he might be in the ROY conversation, but I don't think guys from Japan should be eligable, but thats just me, I'm just glad hes on the team, and for 8.5 million a year for 6 years even if this guy only gets 11 wins a year its not a bust, because Meche gets 11M a year and he only wins like 11 games if hes lucky:thumbsup:

Nice Kushi! I was hoping someone from here got downt here to see him! Way to represent!!!!!!! -
I know Clement is garbage, but lets see if hes any better after surgery. Some have said why not closer? Believe it or not, they are not the first to consider this. I was reading an article awhile back(I read so many I'm not sure where but I'm not BSing, Hopefully i've earned a enough respect around here to be taken seriously). It stated that why not use Clement as a Closer/MR pitcher. He tends to be very good the first time threw the batting order, and the proceeds to get hit later after being seen a few times during the course of the game. I don't really see this as a solution, but I figured I'd mention it. Sorry if it caused any migraines to the readers:D

Some of us Sox fans better becareful, your starting to sound like NYY fan. And worry when there isn't an All-Star, or a household name at every position. Yes there going for it this year but there has to be a couple positions that help save the team some money. And this year it looks to be 2B and 1B, which is fine by me. To me a team has a better shot of winning with a combo of vets and youngsters. Our lineup with Papi,Manny, and Drew with Lugo at the top is go enough to have a unexperienced guy in the 9 hole. Hid D will be just as good or better then Lorettas, so I say throw him in and tell him not to worry and to learn as he goes. The best thing the Sox can do is tell this kid this job is his, so that he doesn't get all worried he will lose it.

Report: Red Sox, Matsuzaka agree to deal
BSN07 replied to schillingouttheks's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
Wow if this holds true, this is an absolute STEAL! All you Theo haters out there better bow down! -
Well if it takes both Coco and WMP to get a decent closer then ya I guess bring him in as a stop gap, but we better be getting the likes of Cordero for both of them. Gonzalez will only take one and mabye a low level prospect.
-
eeek.... Id rather them play WMP in CF. Then you have Hinske as the 4th OF/3B/1B. That SOB has to learn to catch a flyball sometime:D
-
Thats what makes me kinda iffy on this report. Because if that is the true price matsuzaka and Boras came back with, you would have thought hed be in Boston already taking his physical. To me the deal actually sounds a little too good from our stand point. that and the fact no one else(that I can find, espn, foxsports, cbssportsline, bostonglobe,MLB ) has caught wind of this offer and reported it.

Sorry RS I havent learned to post a link, its on Bostonherald.com and I think last I checked it was the 1st article you see after clicking on sports, then click on redsox/mlb. Sorry for the confusion.

Sox/Yanks battle for Pirates' Mike Gonzalez
BSN07 replied to riverside sluggers's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
We have beaten them when it comes to getting players Paranoia, it just seems we remember more the ones we didn't get and all the publicity it caused when it happened. Damon( His hole article in the paper) Contreas( the whole evil empire quote) Abreau( Theo saying we can't spend like the NYY) Pavano( he was big coming off the WS win for FL) AROD( The whole contract issue) But when we get the player most NYY fans kind of let it go, some act like they never wanted them( some are full of s***, but some are speaking the truth). Schilling Pedro Manny Papi Matsuzaka You sometimes have to remember that we dislike NYY fans alot more then they dislike us. Well maybe thats a bad example. They don't take it a seriously as we do, think of it this way, being Patriot fans and being on top for the last few years has been great, but how do we look at Buffalo,MIA,NYJ? There our biggest rivals but we don't really care if they get someone we was after or who they sign ect. On the other side tho, BUF,MIA, and NYJ fans are like Sox fans in a sense, wanting to beat the Patriots at something, anything no matter how trivial it is. And until we won in 04 we looked to try and beat the NYY at anything. We still do now but since we won the sense of urgency and breaking the curse is no longer there, or not as strong. Thats why I think it seems we never get the player and NYY do. But thats just my opinion. -
Thanks for that bit of knowledge Paranoia... We have already debated that point, and in fact it will probably take one ML or ML ready player and 2 prospects. Not busting your balls, but some on here will, just giving you a heads up.
-
Another quick idea, if Coco is traded I would imagine WMP would be the CF. His D is bad but in CF he was decent. Just aslong as he's not in RF. Murphy is another option as a stop gap for Ellsbury, but he's been rumored to be heading to the Marlins for some BP help( which I think is smart).
-
Sorry never heard of Hollins, can anyone give me a quick recap on him? Jackson, ya thats his name and by the way you described him he sounds like a fit for our back up catcher role( catch the knuckler, can't hit the broad side of a barn with a shovel). O well he just needs to beable to catch Wake. I'd like to Kottras as the back up and get into the swing of things, but with him I think Tek might start to worry about his job and not focus on his other tasks. Not saying Tek would, but to any player having a young prospect behind you has got to be in the back of your mind atleast. So I guess it's good we go with the cheap old defensive catcher this year and mix Kottras into things next year. Kottras now I think of it probably owuld be better off with a full year in AAA, and if something goes wrong maybe he could be a later call up.
