  1. Wow, I can't believe NY bid 25 million for this guy. You only bid 30 million for Matsuzaka. This guy is said to be a number 4 or 5 guy in the rotation, maybe just a bullpen arm. Thats a bit hi, but with our Matsuzaka bid I guess we are even in the overspending talk this year:D Anytime someone bitches about how much we payed to talk to Matsuzaka, all we have to do now is point at Igawa's deal. Thank you Cashman:thumbsup:
  2. Manny is one of my all time favorite Sox players. With that said, Manny gave up on us last year. He gave up on the fans and his teammates. Yes we probaly didn't have a great shot at the playoffs or going very far in the playoffs with the rotation the way it was, but the situation could have been handled differently. I think the issue is that Manny is 35, made all the money he could ever want, has a WS ring, and is a first ballot HOF. He has nothing more to prove, but living and playing in BOS he is still scrutinized by the media, and after awhile anyone will tire of that. The media doesn't like him because he doesn't like talking to them. Manny loves baseball and will talk baseball all day everyday, but that's not what the media wants. They want to hear how much he wants to beat the NYY blah blah blah, and Manny doesn't talk about that stuff so he ignores the media and they fry him for it. Yes he has his "Manny being Manny"moments, but most of us have become acustomed to them. When he gave up last summer tho he crossed a line that not many are able to return from. His biggest supporter Papi, finds himself questioning Manny if he was really too hurt to play, Lorretta also saying it was a distraction in the clubhouse. Manny has done everything we have asked of him, he's made us laugh, cry, cheer, and helped bring a long awaited WS victory to our historic franchise. So thats why it's hard for me to say it, but I do believe it is time to part ways with MR. Ramirez and look towards a new direction. I'd like to see a trade with LA. One that would bring Kemp to BOS. Plus either Billinglsy/ another young arm and a third prospect not sure who tho. Kemp is the center piece of the deal tho. He is said to be a doubles and HR guy with great D in the OF. Now with Manny gone they will need an experienced bat to hit behind Papi, and Drew I don't see as the right fit although he will be a good 5 hitter for the club. If a contract extension can be reached with A. Jones in ATL then after Manny is traded send Crisp and two prospects to ATL for him. This ensures a good CF and a proven bat to back up Papi. No he's no Manny but he seems to be the best available if he even is. Of course this is all speculation, but if we trade Manny a big bat will have to be brought in. They might decide tho to wait until the Jones, Wells and Hunter become FA next year , that will leave our offense thin for the 07 season. I think a deal could get done, with Drew in RF, Jones in CF and Kemp in LF with WMP as the fourth OF they could be really fun to watch. With all these trades being talked of, I'm not sure where but somewhere a young SS has to be aquired. Where are said to be fading in the Lugo sweepstakes, and we don't have one ready in the minors. So some how we need to pull one out of the hat. 1B Youk 2B Pedroia SS (prospect from somewhere) 3B Lowell RF Drew CF Jones LF Kemp C Varitek DH Papi This not be a offensive juggernaut, but with our young good pitching, this could be a very young, very fun team to watch, and I for one would rather them be young and fun to watch, then a bunch of older bought names like the NYY( not trying to pick a fight but you know what I mean). I mean this team everyday player wise the oldest player would be TEK. If all this some how worked out( and I know it's a stretch no need to state this in post to come) this would be a youth movement that also benifits us now and the future.
  3. Hey Jackson, why are you spreading your NYY fan propaganda? You really should be worried about the bid you guys made for Igwa. You guys spent 25 million to talk to a guy that the MLB all starts said wasn't even a ML quality. Stop trying to stir the pot:D
  4. Ok, no NYY fan will ever beable to complain what money we put up for Matsuzaka. You guys gave 25 million for a weak throwing back end of the rotation/bullpen guy. And after he pitched against the MLB all stars in Japan, they said his stuff wasn't even MLB quality!
  5. I have a feeling Manny might have played his last game in a Sox uniform. Of course he can Veto any trade, but his value is as high as it's gonna be. If we get enough back for him, expect some of it to be used to bring in a big bat to hit behind Papi. Possibly A. JOnes if he will sign a contract extension.
  6. LAA isn't going to be part of a Manny trade anymore with them signing Matthews to a lucrative contract. The Dodgers deal is around what I expect if Manny is moved. I've heard good things about Kemp and billingsly. I think there would have to be atleast one more player coming from the Dodgers, but i'm really not sure who. I like the idea of A. Jones coming to take Manny's spot. He's clutch, good D, Maybe a little impatient at the plate, but great power numbers. Crisp and 2 prospects to ATL for Jones might work, but only if Jones is willing to sign a contract extension. I don't want a rent a player. If A. Jones comes in, the that makes Jacob Ellsbury expendable, maybe he's part of the deal to ATL. If that all goes down, your looking at an OF that looks like, Kemp/WMP LF, Jones CF, and if they get the deal done( like everyone is assuming) Drew in RF. That not a bad OF, Defensive wise and Offensive wise, if Kemp starts over WMP that is. If they don't get Lugo, maybe the third player in the""Manny to LA" trade we can get a young an upcoming SS. I'm not sure if LA even has one, but it be nice. I wouldn't mine seeing the Sox as a younger, hungrier team.
  7. Of course there oceans apart. Is anyone surprised? I'm not. Boras comes in hi, Sox come in low, and they will meet in the middle. How else do you think negotiations work? It will get done, this is just RSN worrying and getting antsy because the only people we signed are Cora, Wake and Timlin. Stop worrying because we haven't signed new players everyday. The media is in the dark as much as we are and can only speculate, so don't listen to them either. There mad because it will be one of the biggest offseason stories and they have skwaaadush to write on it at the moment. Wait and see what happens then bitch or praise about it.
  8. I agree, it was rumored to be Mcarthy for crawford. I said at that time it was a bad trade and CHW would have to throw more in then Mcarthy. Know they get a worse deal? Crawford is a hell of a player, if this is true, Kenny Williams should be arrested for grand theft OF.
  9. Id rather see Wells in CF then Jones, but Like everyone said it would take a third team and a 4 year contract, which he would be worth. Wells is very underatted and I think he's the only one besides Jones that could back Papi up. Leave Jones alone, he's another Boras guy and is gonna cost a ton, but so will Wells.
  10. If Prior and Byrnes weren't, they might be worth looking at.
  11. Thanks ORS and Jackson, like I said I wasn't to sure how it all worked and if there was gonna be a chance of any decent players being avaliable.
  12. This is a thread to list players who are arbitration eligable. If you know where to get a list please post or post anyone you know of. I'm curious to see who might become a FA if they decide to decline arbitration. Or however it works, i'm not 100% on the hole deal. Thanks guys
  13. Zoinks yo:o
  14. Yes so that means NYY probably won't open it's purse for Zito like they have in years past. Zito is a number 2 or 3 pitcher. He has good stuff and is a dependable innings eater. He's not an ace. I agree if the NYY are going to get an ace it will be via trade. Just not sure who they might be after.
  15. I think Zito is going to the Mets. For NYY to land him it's gonna have to be a huge offer.
  16. No, but when theres no one available thats worth any money, you might as well stockpile offense LOL. I agree we have to do something with the bullpen quick. BTW, does anyone know which players are arbitration eligable? That be something nice to see, so maybe we have a small idea who else might be becoming FA.
  17. Progress made in Drew talks Length of deal is seen as one possible hurdle By Gordon Edes, Globe Staff | November 25, 2006 Don't be deceived by the silence. The Red Sox are quietly but aggressively trying to close a deal for outfielder J.D. Drew, who opted out of the last three years and $33 million of his contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers to become a free agent. Boston.com Sign up for: Globe Headlines e-mail | Breaking News Alerts There are hurdles to be jumped, but progress is being made in talks between Sox general manager Theo Epstein and Drew's agent, Scott Boras, and an agreement appears within reach. Given the speed with which other free agent outfielders have signed -- Alfonso Soriano, Gary Matthews Jr., Juan Pierre, Jim Edmonds, Moises Alou, Frank Catalanotto, Carlos Lee have all struck deals, and the winter meetings are still nine days away -- Drew and the Sox may be within a few days of coming to terms Wow, I really thought there was no chance of Drew coming to BOS after all the sigings and prices. But maybe...
  18. Im just glad he didn't somehow end up in BOS.
  19. It does make you wonder doesn't it. And I guess the whole Giants wanting to be a younger team and not just filled up with 30 something year old vets is out the window. That team direction lasted what? 3 weeks?
  20. Hey easy guys with all the throwing! If they dropped him i'm gonna be pissed He's telling all the papers over there how he can't wait to play in BOS, and when his contract is signed he wants to wear #18. He's gonna sign, might be the 11th hour of the final day, but no way they don't make this work. And his gonna wear Damon's old number:thumbsup:
  21. 6 years, $ 100 million..... For a guy with no particular skill in the OF, and will eat his way to being a DH if he's not chained from the fridge? Thats a big liability in LF for 6 years. Houston will now have to live with the fact there biggest contract in franchise history belongs to "el caballo":dunno: Now that's funny:thumbsup: This years market is going to be one of the craziest of all time. It puts 2001 to absolute shame. And with actual quality players becoming FA in 07' I can't see it getting any better. By the end of 08, Johan Santanna is going to get a bigger deal the Arod." I can see it now, "Santanna signs with(NYY,BOS,NYM,MINN any team with money to spend) for 7 years 200 million dollars".
  22. I think you should be GOM, I think Zito is heading to NY, but on the other side of the tracks to be a MET:thumbsup:
  23. Drew will probably end up in BOS, not for cheap tho. And I don't think he its 30 HR playing half his games in Fenway. Look for more like 20, maybe 25, but he will have to play all season long and i'm pretty sure he hasn't been able to pull that off yet. Drew is one of the most talented players in the game. His flimsy attitude is what kills him everywhere he goes. Hopefully it will change or we will have a less talented "Manny" on our hands. Speaking of Manny. I've been on the fence about trading him, but with the market right now we might beable to get the best deal we are ever gonna get. Wit Lee siging in Houston, look for Manny talk with Texas to heat up. Rumors will be flying all over now that all the big names are signed besides Drew.
  24. Bowden is asking for NYY top prospects for N. Johnson. He's 28 or 29 in the last year of his contract. Cordero is 24 and led the league in saves 2 years ago, and was pretty damn good last year too for a pitiful team. Bowden is gonna want WMP and either 2 of out top pitching prospects or 1 of them and someother top position prospect. The only way we get Cordero straight up for WMP, is will have to ask for the trade on a night Bowden is smoking crack with former DC mayor Marion Berry:D
  25. Yes that be nice. I at one time believed it might because of Bowden's "Love"for WMP. But have changed my thoughts and reasoning. Bowden was said to want one of the top prospects of the NYY, for Nick Johnson. Cordero is worth far more the Johnson and I can't imagine now what Bowden wants for him.
