  1. Yes I agree Melky has a good eye, good plate dicpline, but thats really it, no power, no great glove skills, regular arm, avg. speed. He's mainly a contact hitter, which isn't bad he'll get on base at a good clip with the protection he has, but put him outside of that protection he's nothing really great just avg. I just don't understand why people are so hi on him, hes decent but some talk about him as a big time up and comer, but if he leaves NY, you will see what he really is.
  2. If he turns out to be a Loretta clone, I'll be happy with that. Solid ball player, gives you consistency every day. No problem with that at all:D
  3. Fast Freddie, how do you know when you have posted something idiotic and makes very little sense, almost to the point of questioning your baseball IQ? Answer- When Jackson and Red Sox fans can agree that your post is idiotic and makes very little sense, almost to the point of questioning your baseball IQ
  4. Melky can't play center, doesn't put up the power numbers you want out of a corner OF, and won't hit above .275 outside of the NYY line up. If he is as good as you think he is Jackson, once he leaves that lineup, his BB numbers will rise, because playing in a worse line up will allow the other team to pitch around him and go after the batters worse then him. Melky= Jose Cruz JR.lite, good first couple of seasons then will quietly go into the night and by the time he is 30 will be hoping for a ST invite from some team. Don't get me wrong I'm not a melky hater, hes just a product of being in one of the best lineups in the league.
  5. Based on? Why would LA want otsuka? They have Broxton. Penny will be dealt for some added power to bolster LA's thin lineup. If Penny is traded it's for a hitter, I'm calling it now........
  6. With JD's future in Boston hanging in the balance, if he is not in RF and the 5 hole next year, then who is? Alex Rios just went on the market, might take a 3rd team but I think he would be a nice player for us. Good bat, young, good D, good enough arm for RF and maybe a nice 5 hole hitter.
  7. With the JD debacle at hand, I agree with all who say lessen the years or make it incentive ladden. Just some food for thought, but Alex Rios is said to be on the market, He wouldn't be a bad choice, young, good hitter, good D. Might take a third team tho, I don't see Toronto wanting to trade within the division.
  8. And Street went to the majors in his draft season and has stayed there ever since. Give him a look and if no send him to AA.
  9. I think giving Cox a shot in ST is worth a shot.
  10. Report now is Gonzalez to NYY, Melky to ATL, and Laroche to PITT.
  11. Melky Cabrera For Mike Gonzalez? John Perrotto of the Beaver County Times reports that the Yankees is the most likely destination for southpaw reliever Mike Gonzalez. Apparently Brian Cashman is willing to part with 22 year-old outfielder Melky Cabrera straight up. And here I thought the Yankees where going to start using there talented young players instead of shipping them off.
  12. Anyone think there stock pilling some arms in the pen because some of the younger guys might be heading somewhere else for a closer? Don't expect Gonzalez either, looks like NYY has the advantage at this point, dealin Melky straight up.
  13. Hinske and a mid level prospect? Doesn't sound too bad, Hinske will have a hard time seeing playing time as it stands now.
  14. I guess Wells might be staying after all. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6274400
  15. He is, and supposed to take a front office job with the Astros.
  16. Wow this thread went sideways quick!LOL As far as Clement goes, salvage what you can, or make him the bat boy.
  17.  Thats optomistic to say the least LOL
  18. I expect the 4th and 5th spots to be filled with 1-2 yr guys, after that look for 1 or more of the killer B's to take the spots. If that doesn't work out, like ORS and myself have pointed out they will have money to spend. RF,CF,SS,2B,1B,C, atleast 3 spots in the rotation and a couple guys in the pen are young and locked up long term. This is going to give the Red Sox alot of financial flexability in the future. Next offseason the focus will be on 3B/1B( depending on where Youk ends up playing). The usual BP guys will need be added, and two back end of the rotation pitchers. The Sox have postioned themselves well for the next 4-7 years with a young core of players. After Manny is gone( unless they go get a big bat next offseason) our biggest contract will be Drew... Point is the Sox are going to have plenty of money to spend for along time.
  19. They will have Beckett, Matsuzaka,Papelbon in the rotation. Either they fill in the spots with some of our own guys or low cost FA. I think those three are a very big triple threat. The 4th and 5th spots can be manned by inning eaters or young guys from the farm. Just because the rotation has open spots doesn't mean they will go out and fill them with top tier pitchers. The LT went from 135 to 145 this year, I imagine it will climb again next season to around 155+. Where around 138 now I think, with a closer to add. Just for fun lets say we get BP arm and a closer and we come in at 145M, sign Clemens for 18M that puts us at 163M... Take off Clemens and everyone else next off season and where around 105 Million, with the Luxury threshhold at minimum of 145( if it doesnt go up) we have 40 Million to spend next offseason and if it does go up where talking 50M to spend if they want, which is more then some teams can say.
  20. Boras has already said when it comes to Jones, they won't be excepting a deal like the last one from ATL. He took a hometown discount last time, now he wants the big bucks.
  21. The Marlins have been said to be interested in Murphy, knowing the team is not going to trade Ellsbury. ORS, who do you think Texas will be looking for in return for Otsuka?
  22. Even better now where talking 40M off from what 6 guys. This has to be in the FO mindset knowing that all that money will be coming off next season.
  23. I know what you mean about the LT tax, but like I've stated before they might go over it for a season and then next year it will be back down below after alot of players come off the books. Schilling- 13M Wakefield-4M Lowell-9M Timlin-2.8M Hinske-2.8M Thats 30M and those are the guys I can think of off the top of my head. I won't count Manny because if hes dealt then someone will most likely be signed to replace his bat( 15M+ I would guess for a big RH hitter). I know I stated on another thread that the be in the hunt for one of the big 3 CF's, but know I think of it, unless one of them moves to LF they might not sign here, because that would trap Ellsbury in the minors, and from what I can tell if he has a good year in AAA this season he will be in CF next year.
  24. But like you said Jackson there is no one available on the FA market. And don't give me the Gagne spin either, he was too much for too big of risk. They will have to trade for one or create one again and go from there. Theres nothing saying they cant give someone a chance and then trade. Yes you lose some games but you also might get a Papelbon out of it too. Thats something I am willing to deal with for the first few months of the season.
  25. LOL ORS I know how he is, but Jackson usally plays nice with me so I wont get on him to bad. I know he will always find flaws, I just try to show him a different view to what he sees.
