Maybe this guy still has something in the tank. He's only 28, I like this signing( younger pitcher, has capability of coming throwing mid 90's for one inning) then bringing in someone like Seanez( should have been selling peanuts in the stands of the Mexican league). We will see what happens, he's worth a shot, if he sucks they will just cut him loose.

Wily Mo Pena, OF -- The Major League veteran is struggling in his first six playoff games for Aguilas, going 1-for-23 with two RBIs.:dunno: :thumbdown That sure as hell doesn't make me jump for joy... I think he must be slightly retarded in the head, how are we supposed to take him seriously going 1 for 23 in the domincan winter league?

A700, I posted that Bard should get a shot at the job awhile back. If he shows he can control his pitches he would be nice to have back there. 100mph is a pain in the butt to hit and he could def. miss some bats with it. He has said he would rather remain a starter, but anything is possible when its the big league club asking you to move.

NYY rotation is looking like St. Louis's of 04. No apperent ace, filled with 2,3's. I think both our teams have made moves for the now and the future, both teams have set themselves up nicely to be teams of top tier quality in there league for years to come. A700 had it kind of right with the dismantling idea, except that its not going to happen all this year, for the next couple of years I see the NYY trading more of its older players/worthless contract guys for minor leaguers or not renewing there contracts, 2yrs from now there probably will be no Pettite,Moose,Posada,Abreu,Mo(retire),Williams(maybe gone this yr), the NYY will look like a far different team in the coming years, going with youth instead of over paid has beens or nobodys. Its boarderline rebuilding, but NYY has enough talent in the rest of its players to make the team a contender, as far as there lineup goes it brings them back towards the pack a little ways. But with AROD( if he doesnt opt out)Jeter, Giambi, Damon,Canu there line up will still be strong, and they will be able to get awy with having younger position players/starting pitchers, where as most teams don't have thta luxury.

Thats a damn good question RS, the last superstar we traded was Nomar but we got ML players. The only time I can even think of is last year with Wells and we got Kottras. Everyother deal I can think of always had us sending prospects out for ML players, not the other way around or ML players for ML players. You got me stumped LOL!

I see what your saying Gom. Theo and Cashman are making there way to the top of GM ranks. Both have done good things for there respective teams for the now and the future. What Cashman got out of Detroit and AZ for two over the hill high priced clubhouse whinys was nothing short of amazing and awe inspiring, same goes for Theo's draft classes the last couple of years. Pinerio as closer? I'm willing to give it a shot, hopefully he can do it, and if not atleast be decent until one of the kids can take over. The only thing I'm worried about is as soon as he blows a save, RSN is going to be in a right state, wanting a trade for someone or second guessing the signing. I just hope that we understand he's not going to be as effective as Paps and give him a fair shake. Some fans in RSN can be a little trigger happy. If he can save around 80% of his save attempts he's well worth it.

Good pick up for Houston, great clubhouse guy and still has some decent skills. Probably be a manager when his playing career is over, good luck Mark!

Gom, we only have Schilling until the end of this year, he's retiring remember? RJ has 2 pitches and thats it, Schilling can get away with a little more since he has more then 2 pitches. Schilling is not the ace he was in 04 but I say he is still good for 15 wins. As far as the better offseason goes, Like you put it Gom where about even on that one. We filled in the holes that held us back last year( besides closer, still up in the air) and you guys shed payroll and added depth in the depleated farm system. I say it's a draw, our 5 man rotation I would say is better then NYY's, but NYY lineup and bullpen are stronger then ours. I know a tie is like kissing your cousin, but I tip my hat to both clubs. I would have given it to Boston if they had got that closer postion filled with an actual closer, there still time for that tho:thumbsup: My teams pitchers and catchers go in for training today! Makes the season feel that much closer!
-
Cox or Hansen. Outside shot of Papelbon with Pinerio/Lester in the 5th spot(Lester 2nd half). Papelbon might be the one tho, he was a little overworked last season and if they make him closer again expect his workload to be less( no pitching three days in a row).

Yankees and Red Sox come out on top of hot stove season

And IF you had a pussy you be a girl... Any fing contract can go that way, instead of picking on Drew and the Sox( which the deal hasn't even been signed) Why don't you go after the Dodgers for Pierre or LAA for Matthews JR. This apparent hard on you have for Drew is old and tiring, get some new material or find a new subject, every god damn thread on here has you bitching about Drew in some form or another. Don't get me wrong Jackson I like your post but for the love of God stop harping on the hole Drew deal it's giving me a migraine. -
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
-
AZ FO must be a bunch of rejects if they send that much to NY for a feeble RJ. Jacko, if this deal does go threw it doesn't mean cashman is a great GM, it means AZ GM is a retard and cashman knows how to take advantage of retards. Anyone that would send all that for RJ has to be considered mentally incapable and someone should step in and keep cashman from taking advantage of the poor bastards in AZ!LOL

Baltimore will battle TB for the basement. There not good, they don't even have the young talent of TB, they spent a ton of money on mediocre MR pitching. There Starting roataion sucks, Roberts is decent and the rest are a bunch of the middle of the road guys. Baltiomre is showing there determined to win in 07, there doing what they always do, overpay for 2nd tier guys. The Huff signing might be one of the best signings ever, they didn't over pay for a decent ball player. Baltimore is one of the worst run organizations in professional sports.

Milledge attitude sucks. It was said a few of the veterans had to put his ass in place. Hes one of those guys who has great talent, but since he was on the big league club he thought he made it and the rest was gravy. He has a bad attitude and little respect. he's your typical NBA/NFL player but he plays baseball. The Mets saw the beginnings of what could be a extrem headache and are acting quickly to send him packing before he does something that makes other clubs realize he has a severe attitude problem. he's looking like the next Milton bradely/Carl Everett great talent, horrible attitude. I was on the another board just browsing and some where saying, "hes just a typical homeboy thug that thinks he is the greatest thing like since sliced bread and hes the baddest mo fugga on the block. I thought it was a funny way to explain what hes like. Put him in Oakland and he prolly wear a blue bandanna out of his back pocket with a 9MM in his belt throwing up gang signs in RF"!LOL

Yankees trying for Clemens, earlier start to season?

MINN is going to have a new stadium soon, With M and M, Santanna, Liriano, and a couple other young pitchers they have, they are looking to be a strong team in the near future and for awhile after that. Expect Minny to expand there payroll to allow them to keep all these guys under contract. They will need all those guys to sell tickets to the new park. The only way Santanna gets dealt, is if he comes out and says flat out that he either doesn't want to resign or that his contract demands will be astronomical( 20M+ a yr). The only other possibility is that if Liriano comes back 100% Minny might decide to trade Santanna and rely on Liriano as the ace. I don't see this because liriano isn't going to be back for 07 and they won't know how effective he will be until 08. This is just a guess for what I think Minny's players will get for contracts, Hunter- gone Mauer- 5yrs 50M Morneau- 5yrs 55M Santanna- 6yrs 100M+( 100M is hometown discount, if he hits the open market, Boras will commit suicide because hes not his client, and Santanna gets a 7yr 150M+ deal from Texas,BOS,NYY,NYM,LAA,LA( or whoever can afford it). But I think he stays in Minny, he doesn't seem the type of player to chase money. -
3 yrs 20M? Wow that might be one of the best bargins of the whole offseason. I absolutely hate how Baltimore does there personel moves( signing old has beens at huge contracts just because there a name) but this might be one of there better moves recently. Gibbons I think will get dealt. possibly the Pirates who are looking for a power LH bat, Gibbons isn't the biggest power hitter but hes got decent pop.

I forone am not concerned with the Closers position. We where in the same boat last year and we didn't overreact or sell the farm but found Paps. Throw Hansen, Bard, Cox and maybe a couple of the vets into auditions for the closrs role and see which one steps up. Hansen will be better this year with a new pitching coach, Bard touches 100MPH when he feels like it and could easily do it all the time as a closer, Cox I'll be honest I don't know much about him, just what I've heard, and from that he sounds like he has the stuff for it. I don't expect another Paps to fall into our laps( although it could happen) but just because we don't have a closer now doesn't mean we won't find one amongst the ranks. I am def. against sending Bucholz and Bowden for Cordero. To me starting pitching is priceless. either do like I suggested above or go after someone else who is cheaper, like dusch in Oakland or someone like that that won't cost an arm and leg. I still believe we can find a closer out of the three guys I suggested above.

Ya jackson has it pegged, don't expect to see anything of Clement before the AS break at the very earliest. He had pretty major surgery. I'd like to see him come back and be what he was in Chicago, but probably not, but there is also the possibility he sucked because of his shoulder( I'm not holding my breath tho)

Enough about NYY, what about the NYM? I think they where banking on being able to bring Zito in to there rotation. I was reading an article yesterday before all the San Fran news broke that said, NYM thought they where the front runners and would only have to wait until next week and Zito would be on his way. With Zito not coming to NY, the Mets rotation is probably close to the worst in there division with the Nats. With little to nothing left ont he FA market, the Mets are going to be forced over a barrell as they will probably be forced to trade for a pitcher now, because right now there rotation is horrible. NYM still have a good lineup but they are going to pay for not offering Zito a better deal. there pitching staff is horrific at this point, they took a big step back towards the pack this offseason instead of extending themselves from it.

Giants Willing To Spend $100 Mil For Zito? According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Giants are the frontrunners for Barry Zito and are willing to give him a $100MM contract. The Yankees, Mets, and Rangers aren't expected to be in that ballpark and don't want to give him six years. Seattle, however, could get crazy and make such a bid. That would cap a terrible offseason for Bill Bavasi in grand fashion. The Yankees talked to the Giants about Randy Johnson, but Brian Sabean was not interested. Word is that Johnson is not old enough for San Francisco. One more note from the column - Sherman mentions Tomo Ohka as a lesser option for Texas. Whether that's purely speculation is unclear. Isn't zito too young for them? Shouldn't they be trying to trade for RJ and give him a 4 yr contract? If San Fran is really offering that much, I would have to believe thats where hes headed. NYM where the front runners but if this holds true there gonna have to put another yr on ther offer and get somewhat close to 100M.

Red Sox Targeting Closer? The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo has a J.D. Drew update for us. It may be that Boras does not want to revise Drew's contract given that Boras's surgeon gave Drew's shoulder the thumbs up. More intriguing is a line at the end of the post - the Red Sox are targeting a trade for a closer and are targeting one of Chad Cordero, Brad Lidge, and Mike Gonzalez. Out of the three I would take Cordero 1st. He's the youngest, cheapest, and has the biggest upside. He will probably cost the most in a trade but he is the one thats worth it.

Yanks Want Three Arms For Unit Yesterday for the East Valley Tribune, Jack Magruder indicated that the Yankees want a trio of young arms from the Diamondbacks in return for Randy Johnson. They want one reliever in the group. Brandon Medders, a 27 year-old right-handed reliever, is said to be a target. Medders posted a solid 3.64 ERA in 71 innings in 2006, though his 1.68 K/BB ratio is cause for concern. Magruder indicates that Arizona wants to substitute the pricier Luis Vizcaino instead of Medders. The other pitchers would come out of this group: Edgar Gonzalez, Enrique Gonzalez, Dustin Nippert, Ross Ohlendorf, and Micah Owings. What, no Juan Cruz? Baseball Prospectus's Kevin Goldstein lists Nippert as a "good prospect" and Owings as an "average prospect." The others aren't in the team's top 10. That might be a testament to all the young talent in the organization though. Magruder doesn't expect the D'Backs to meet this Yankee demand, but perhaps the teams can meet in the middle I hate the damn NYY, but I have to give it up to Cashman, that SOB could sell ketchup to a tomato farmer. He got three decent prospects for a player coming off of major wrist injury and is past his prime, if he gets 2-3 prospects and passes all of RJ salary to some other team I will be in awe. Theo has made a couple decent trades, OC and The Beckett/Lowell package( ya we gave up alot but Beckett is going to be a frontline starter for us I believe), but they are nothing compared to what Cashman gets, its like he takes a old BMW that has 300K miles on it, no back tires, and a engine the runs on 2 cylinders and gets back all his money plus a couple of new Mustangs.
