  1. Dojji if you pay attention to my posts you should be able to figure out I'm not a"tinfoil on head" guy. I'm realistic though. And if he signs with the Yanks, so be it. I won't stop watching or anything like that. But there are some on here that will probably fall off that cliff you spoke of. I figured if I put the possibility of it happening out there now, maybe the shock will be less if it where to take place. But I also realize there is the possibility of him re signing too. Don't kid yourself. Just because that money is freed up, doesn't make it available to Papelbon. The team has the resources to outbid most everyone, but the choose not to. So them having more payroll flexibility isn't that much of an issue. They have a strategy/system, and will treat him the same as everyother player they negotiate contracts with. They will have a value set for him, and if he wants considerably more, they will let him walk. Just like they have done with everyone else.
  2. Ya but their solid offers are more likely to be multiple year offers at half of what he originally wanted. I was merely trying to point out that he might want to bite the bullet, and find a 1 year deal. Then re-enter FA next offseason. And hope the market is better(especially considering the Yankees will have an openings in the OF , and they love to overpay). Or maybe some AL will need a DH next offseason. Or in the event Bay leaves town, Dunn could be resigned to play LF. There are plenty of options. And in fiscal times like these, it pays to think outside of the box and be creative with you options. Boston might be a nice place to showcase his talents for a season. Especially if he shows ability to play avg D at 1B and OF.

  4. Glad to see the Sox get back something for the guys they DFA'd.
  5. With injury/age issues with Papi,Lowell, and Drew I think the Sox could find him plenty of AB's. Given match ups days off ect, the Sox could institute a rotation for Dunn. 1B, DH, OF. Rotate him through in that order(or whatever order) and you'll get his AB's and the added bonus of insuring that Papi, Lowell and Drew recieve atleast one day a week off. Thus keeping them fresher during the course of the season. But like Coco said I don't see him taking a bench role, which is what it would be in Boston. Maybe a super utility role.
  6. That wasn't what I was trying to say. I know they shouldn't operate in that manner, it would be very dumb. I was mainly saying they will not be able to penny pinch with him. And if they do choose that path, then they and fans alike should be ready for the Yankees to swoop in on him. Mo's done in a couple of years, and everyone knows that the Yankees like to pluck players from the Sox. Papelbon would be their ultimate wet dream scenario:D
  7. Quick glance at the stats says your probably right. He actually might be better the 10%.
  8. I like the fact the Sox antied up a bit here, and gave him the largest deal for a CP. It sends a good message to Papelbon's camp IMO.

  11. Per Espnradio, says it's a 1 year 6.2M deal. Biggest ever for a first time eligable closer.
  12. That's not my point. No one is going to give him close to what he wants. I think it would be better for him to sign a 1 yr deal at 5M or what have you, and test the market again next offseason. Instead of locking into a longer term deal at far less then what he wants. Boston will give him a chance at some pub and maybe help his cause next offseason. It's just a thought.
  13. lulz... No there is not starting spot for Dunn. But like I said previously, if he got desperate, or would take 1 year deal(Baltimore and DC are going to want multiple years at a discounted price), that Boston should consider him. He may not be the best in the field, and he may not want to play 1B, but the market sucks right now. A 1 year deal from a contender sounds pretty good for rebuilding his FA market value. But with all the Sox ? in the lineup. I'm sure the Sox could find enough AB's for him. Lowell is iffy, Ortiz is iffy, Drew always has ?'s. If they did a rotation between LF,1B, and DH(maybe in RF) it give the guys that are older and coming off injury atleast a day off during the week(and that's if everyone is healthy). And that could have a lot of positive value along the course of the season. You can aleways sub him out late in games with Baldelli or Kotsay to lessen the effect of his glove.
  14. Spot on! Such a good call:thumbsup:
  15. Wow that is what I would consider to be "cheap". I think the Sox could find him AB's at DH,1B,COF. I know his glove is suspect. But for 5M a year he be a nice bat to have a round. Of course he would have to except such a role, which is dountful. Unless he gets desperate. 1yr 5M?
  16. Take it down a notch Jim. Neither of you is going anywhere. Let's not make this into some message board Crusades.
  17. Pauley was DFA'd, so to get anything in return for him is a +.
  18. Swap Meet. 2 teams exchanging each others junk.
  19. You would think, but that's what it is called.
  20. Guys take this with a grain of salt. But here on NASN(NorthAmericanSportsNetwork, soon to be ESPN America, it just scrolled by on the bottom that Varitek is expected to re-sign with the Red Sox for a reduced rate. LIke I said, not sure how concrete it is, but that's our big sport station here, so I thought I would post what I saw. All it says it was from an MLB source.
  21. We still get supplemental pick's, so that wouldn't be that bad.
