  1. Ummm 1st week of ST and your writing players off? Haven't you learned your lesson with that yet?
  2. It's not a good thing. But if they have to bring him along slower then planned for him to be able to pitch ok.
  3. It was snowing in NY. This is not good. This time of year you should feel good physically. If your having problems, I'd say it's a red flag.
  4. Because Smoltz could throw a monkey wrench into Jacko's own personal agenda.
  5. And AJ Burnett just signed a nice 5/80M deal. You don't think this will be a deterrent for a known prima donna who has never thrown 200 innings outside of a contract season? Jacko it's dumb prediction from BBTN. I can't believe this has you so wound up. This leads me to believe that you are seriously worried about Smoltz actually being a quality pitcher for the stretch run. The truth is all right here in your reactions, deny all you want too, but somewhere theres a part in you that is worried what Smoltz might be able to pull off. If you honestly thought he was going to be a non issue, why make this thread, why post about his shoulder over and over when we all know about it already? Why make such a big deal over seemingly nothing?
  6. Peppers is going to be too expensive IMO. He's going to command a huge contract. If for some reason they can get him at a reasonable price, sure I'm all for it. But I see that as unlikey. Besides the Pats need all the money they can to resign Wilfork. That should take a fair amount of the space they just cleared. And unless they move some other players(Seymour i suppose) I don't see them being able to give Wilfork and Peppers long term deals.
  7. I'm not saying he's a moron at all. I just think he acted too quickly. I didn't see the rush to trade Cassel. Yes it probably needed to get done by the draft, but that's like 7 weeks away still. I just question his timing is all. But hey he is a SB winning coach, and I'm a grateful fan, so when it's all said and done I'm fine with the move. You will never hear or see me call BB a moron. I love what he brings to the table. And wouldn't want anyone else at the helm.
  8. TB dropped the ball. That is there problem. I like what the Pats will be looking like on draft day. Most picks in the 1st 2 days(4 total I believe). I wouldn't be surprised to see some other moves before and on draft day.
  9. No, I'm saying he acted prematurely in hindsight. From what I read it seems TB just missed out. And from what I can gather, there should have been no rush to trade Cassel, so by trading him this early he missed out on what appears to be a better offer.
  10. A change of scenery for Melky will help him? If he can't hit with all that protection he has now, going to some lesser team won't do much for him. Melky is a 4th OF at best, we have been saying it for a long time now, it just took you guys a couple years to catch on. Who was it that was arguing Melky being a HOF caliber type player(or something like that) awhile back?
  11. TB offered a 1st and 3rd, but they where too late to the dance. From what I have read if BB hadn't pulled the trigger so fast on the deal with KC, Cassel would be in TB. Most FO people are saying from what I read that Cassel could/should have gotten what Schaub brought back, or what SD recieved in compensation for the Eli, Phillip swap a few years back.
  12. He's a solid DB.
  13. Nah 170 pounds of mouth sounds about right. The rest of him only ways about 80 pounds anyways.
  14. The difference being the Yankees signed old veteran to long term deal, or for enormous amounts of money. The sox sign 1 year deal, that usually don't carry that much risk if the pitcher can't go. Burnett 5yrs 70M, he kills your argument completely.
  15. And what does your crystal ball say? Gammons HOF writer- Jacko 13K posts on Talksox..... All Gammons did was try and be interesting and different for his spot on BBTN. Any Stooge can say Halladay or any other obvious choice. But it make for a pretty boring segment. If he had said any Yankee pitcher, you'd be lapping it up and saving your spot for the Championship parade...
  16. Fair enough, but I say there is a pretty good chance they ink him to a long term deal that will negate the previous deal of 1 year/16M. It will probably end up more like 5 years 45-60M.
  17. a700, I was only saying these things to poke you in the ribs. It's a complex world when it comes to economics. And I don't pretend to be an expert. But the experts here have been spot on since I got here about America's economy. It's a bit weird actually how right they tend to be. But from what I've gathered so far, they expect the drought to continue for the next year, and by the end of the 1/4(2010) they expect things to be turned back towards a more positive outlook. I guess only time will tell. But I would suggest instead of complaining about the plan, you should hope it works:D
  18. Hahaha I usually stay away from the political discussions. I was only trying to wind up the anti-Obama crowd.
  19. Denver was smart here. Trading Cutler would have been extremely dumb. Cutler is on the verge of seperating himself as one of the top tier QB's in the league.
  20. Matt Schaub pulled in 2 2nd round picks 2 seasons ago. I think Cassel is better and has more value. But I do agree to some extent that Cassel could be fools gold. but he is going into a decent situation. A Lot better then if he went to Detroit. But Yes I would consider it ok compensation for Cassel. It seems a bit on the light side when you throw Vrabel into the mix.
  21. I think they cleared close to 20M towards next years cap? Vrabel-3.25M, Cassel-16M
  22. Bush is a tough act to follow. Of course I would wager that a fair amount of the money Obama will be spending, will be because of Bush. Listen they all spend too much. If in the end it does help then so be it.
  23. Or like King said, Bill did Scott a solid. The move doesn't hurt the Pats long term. They got a good pick, cleared some cap space. And they where able to send Cassel to a good situation.
  24. You can't take Football contracts at face value like you do in Baseball. It's a 2 year deal. Just like Haynesworth will never see all 7 years 100M of his deal. You have to look at the GTD money, and in Dawkins case it's 2 years 9M.
