They said all along that he had the capability of catching Wake. The Sox could not afford the time it would have taken though. Therefore the rushed the trade for Dougie. But they seem to think that it can be handled between now and the start of the season.

I think that's about as truthful of an answer you can get. He may realize he is going to be 35, and can see why, but that doesn't mean he can't be hurt by almost being the odd man out.

Kotsay is down. That's why i put him on my 25 Man. But I said it could very well be Bailey or Carter as well. I'd like to see Carter get some AB's and see what he does at the ML level.

He will be around until Kotsay is healthy. But maybe it will be Carter, or Bailey instead.

Ok I see where you guys are coming from. You bring valid points to the discussion. But since we can not be sure(outside of cloning these guys:D), I just think we shouldn't compare players/stats of different generations. Instead just embrace the differences and make them known. Instead of trying to lump everyone in together.

He should have never made this statement. He's saying if Manny was not traded they would have won, and because Manny was not there, is why they lost, sounds like some form of a complaint to me. Manny was traded, end of story. The fact that he was still commenting on this after the Post Season is ridiculous. How do you think all his other teammates felt? I know I might have an issue with a teammate saying something of this nature. I'm sure Bay loved to hear this. Or anyone else on the team for that matter. I guess my point is, once Manny was traded, Ortiz should move on like everyone else did. Instead he was quoted as saying the FO need to bring in a Big bat to protect him. Is Bay chopped liver? Does he think he's incapable of offering protection for him?

Fair enough. Yes Ruth was much better then the peers that where allowed to play with him in that era. Is it fair to assume that a lot of players including Ruth (possibly) wouldn't even be in the league today, given that all ethnic groups are allowed to participate now?

Seems reasonable. Tweak the delivery, less success then you had with the old delivery, causes confidence problems. Seems to all fit. Glad he was able to admit it might be something mental and took the proper actions to address the concern. -

Well I'm glad he's upbeat about them. But honestly would he say anything else? It's not like he would come out and say " They look ok, not sure if there going to be ready to go though", that would be dumb. At this point of the season every manager, coach, GM whatever is upbeat about the upcoming season and the players they have filled the roster with. Hell I bet the Pirates FO feels good about it's players. Right up until the 2nd week in April, when they fall out of contention. -
Then Ortiz has no right to bitch and moan that Manny is gone and not protecting him in the lineup. Also he has not right to complain about the Sox getting another premier bat to back him, if he was in on the vote that sent the last one away. Don't get me wrong, I believe the Sox did the correct thing in sending Manny away. i just don't think someone should be able to complain about it if they took part in it is all. Wasn't Ortiz seen wearing some sort of Manny t-shirt under his jersey or during warm ups or something after the trade? Not that it really matters though, just curious.

Ok that's fair, but where do you draw the line for what's considered a PED? Is it just anabolic steroids? Or do greenies,Amphetamines(both Mike Schmidt has admitted to using during his day), and gatorade count as well? These are all things that where not available for previous generations, but no one is killing them for using them.
