  1. I think LAA would be the most obvious landing spot. But their owner is a dumbass and is all talk. If Pujols was leaving his peak years, was African American and played the OF, he would be playing in LAA. Their good at pissing away millions of dollars on those types. Washington, Chicago Cubs, Giants, Rangers, Yankees and Red Sox are all teams that if they wanted to could make an offer. Outside of that I don't see any obvious fits. Not many teams can allocate 30M of their operating payroll to one player.
  2. He was going to get paid regardless. But by signing with Boras he is likely to get more $ then he was going to before IMO. That's why I laughed at it. He was probably in line for 15-20M annually for 5-7 years. Now it's 7 years minimum at 20M+ AAV with Boras in the mix. Now all we need is a story CC fired his agent and signed on with Boras If Pedroia signed Boras, I would think the same thing. Just wouldn't be laughing about it then.
  3. Pettitte was a good pitcher. He never really rocked the boat. I don't care about PED's, so I won't hold it against him. When I think of him, I think of that game he pitched in the snow early on in his career. That image has always stuck with me.
  4. I think they will sign Millwood now. He should be able to eat innings. Now finding someone by the TDL is an absolute necessity.
  5. It's not gloom and doom. The concerns are legit. Take of the rosy red glasses and stop being a homer.
  6. Permanent ban?
  7. I knew he wouldn't get a major league deal. I'm not sure why anyone thought a guy that struggled to get a 1 year ML deal off a good season, would magically get one coming off a bad season.
  8. I hope they trade of a few blue chippers for Santana. That be great. Montero, Sanchez and another playing for the Mets would be ideal
  9. Myers ahead of Moustakas is surprising. Surprised to see Kelly at #32. Guess you lose some spots when you don't have "Red Sox" next to your name
  10. The Yankees off season reminds me a lot of what the Sox had to do in the 08 after missing out on Tex.
  11. How in the F does that happen?
  12. Those comments seem a bit more positive. Will be something to keep an eye on in ST.
  13. http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110131&content_id=16537076&vkey=news_bos&c_id=bos Interesting article. IMO Tito is an average game manager. This has been discussed often here. He'll make you scratch you head or scream an obscenity occasionally. But he does ok. Where he really makes up for that is off the field, in the clubhouse, and with the media. He's Ace's all the way across the board in those category's. In that sense I believe he is the best the Sox have ever had. But in my lifetime the bar hasn't been set too high. I started with Butch Hobson...
  14. Same can be said for Pedroia. He will be moving base to base for awhile.
  15. Not sure how Tito is going to handle this. I expect Ellsbuy and Crawford to run. But not sure either one tops 60. Ellsbuy's ribs might hold him back and Crawford isn't going to be asked to steal 2B and 3B(yes I know he didn't steal 3B on a regular basis, just over exaggerating to make a point) every time he gets on base like he was in TB. Plus he's on the Red Sox. That takes away at least 20 SB a season. Also Posada isn't catching full time anymore, that's what another 15?
  16. I'll put the over under on Pedroia's SB this season at 5.5. Not even considering his foot is still f'd up, he may be hitting in the 3 spot. So I doubt they will be sending him a lot infont of Agon. But that's just my take on it. A healthy Ellbury and Crawford will steal a lot of bases. Passed that I wouldn't look for anything to write home about.
  17. This is probably one of the biggest reasons I don't see Jed taking over at SS full time anytime soon. He is going to see a good amount of time at 2B, especially early on. The days of Pedroia playing everyday and flipping out on Tito at the thought of having to watch a game on rare occasions are long gone. Judging by those comments alone I'll be surprised to see him play more then 130 games this year. And now I'm starting to think that might be too hopeful. I don't like this Pedroia situation at all(I know, no one does). And I don't think anyone should be taking it lightly. It's things like this that make having a player like Jed around very valuable. BTW thanks Spud. I had managed to put this worry out of mind for awhile.
  18. It is when they just traded for one of the top 1B in the league.
  19. So you believe it's something other then Pettitte? Any guess's?
  20. It's not a stretch to say the teams are even. The offense's should be comparable. The rotations are mirror images of each other almost. Stud LHP Ace, young up and coming SP, innings eater(Lackey, Pettitte if he comes back) and then 2 ? marks. The Sox question marks have better upside, but they are still ? marks. The BP's are both strong, but a slight edge to the Yankees. The bench's are a wash IMO. So right now as it stands it looks pretty equal, the Sox have 1 more established SP. The Yankees BP is probably a little better then the Sox. Don't be a homer and fool yourself into thinking the Yankees won't be right there in it with the Sox all the way till the end.
