I think they need to add a SP regardless of where Pettitte stands. But I have been agreeing with Jacko all along that it doesn't need to be right now. The Yankees should be good enough to stay in contention for the 1st half at least with what they have. At that point I think they will need to Add 1 if not 2 SP and 1 has to be an upper rotation SP. Not just an innings eater. If they are unable to do that and still make the playoffs they will be fighting an up hill battle to say the least. But there is tons of time and lots of games before they get to that point. Many things will play out by then. Things could be a lot worse or there could be some pleasant surprises like Maybe AJ stepping up and being a solid #2 :dunno:

I don't like 3 year deals for any RP. So I would definitely pass on giving the 33 year old Bell, that had a 5ish career ERA before heading to the hitting vacuum that is the NL West a 3 year deal. I apply the same worry about Pitchers coming from Petco as say hitters coming from Coors. In fact I can't recall one pitcher off the top of my head that pitched at least as well for his new team after leaving the Padres. So no on Heath Bell.

If Papelbon would take a reasonable 3 year deal, then I think they might entertain the thought.

If most of TB's addition to the roster bomb, then yes they will be at the bottom. I expect most of them to be at least league average. So I don't see why some believe they are just going to fall off a cliff. TB, Baltimore and Toronto all have some reason to be positive going forward. Non of them are pushovers. And the more I think about it, the more I think a low 90's win total might take the division this season.

According to MLBTR Soriano's deal has Two opt-outs in it. So this is probably a one or maybe 2 year deal and he will leave as soon as Boras see's enough of a market for Closers.

Good move for the Yanks IMO. Are the elbow worries about Soriano that came up around this time last year when he was traded not a worry anymore? Not poo pooing the signing, this is something I asked when the some where suggesting the Sox get in on him and I don't remember what the deal was. The NYY FO is so transparent right now. If the totally say they are not in on someone, won't go more on $ or years, whatever. They are surely to sign, re-sign, trade for that player within a week. I like The Sox style of not commenting on any situation better. Not saying this type of action would negate my entire fan hood for a team, but if I was a Yanks fan it be semi embarrassing when the continually pull the same crap over and over.

Them having similar seasons is reasonable. Beckett may be the bigger injury worry. But AJ is easily a bigger mental worry. If both sort their issues then high 3 low 4 ERA with a solid amount of wins seems likely.

CC is gonna opt out IMO. But I think it will only be to get more $ from the Yankees. Similar to what Arod did. I would be surprised if some other team can pluck him away from NY. But I think they will have an opportunity to try at least. Maybe SF and/or LA will be more attractive this time around :dunno:

I don't know anything about the guys they got back. Anyone? 5 for 1 seems like a good deal on the surface. edit: I re-read it and see that two prospects are going to the Cubs as well.

This ^. All the purest like to believe the game has been a level playing field across the generations. No generation has an advantage over the others. Which is just an absurd notion.

But he didn't. So you can only judge him on what he did during his era of baseball and all the intangibles of that era. Just like you have to judge Bonds, McGwire, Sosa and Raffy on what they did during their era. And when you look at it like that, it's obvious they should be in the HOF.

Bonds should get in. But he was a douche off the field and treated the media like s***. He realized far too late that these people he had been treating like s*** ultimately held the key to him entering the HOF. I think Barry was going to have to wait to get in before the steroid saga. But that's because I think a lot of media people are petty and they would hold off on voting him in for awhile as a final FU. Now with the general view on steroids the way it is it looks like it will even further the process if not hold him out entirely.

Babe Ruth only played against white players. Should he now be excluded from the HOF? Every era is different. Comparing players from different era's is a practice in futility. Each is unique in it's on way. That's the problem. Everyone wants to draw hard lines in the sand that blanket baseball's entire history. Which is just impractical. Each era should be looked at in it's own right, and the players worthy from that era should be voted in.
