  1. For the most part, I agree. I don't think the Yankees print money like you guys do, but if they want to get a player, they are nearly impossible to beat. I think if Dipre and I agree on something, it's pretty much time to close the thread.
  2. Two points: I still think we should have made the deal of Hilligoss, Marquez, Kennedy and Cabrera. Even Jacko pretty much agreed to that when he saw that, but that was before your time here Dipre... Secondly, I'll gladly eat crow if the Yankees win championships. I really can't lose here. I always said his plan was good, I just didn't like him implementing it. He took over Michael's plan. How he drafts, how he trades, makes a big difference. Signing a check means less.... However, championships mean the most. He got one, and this one is his. The others belonged to the one's before him.
  3. This is not only your problem, but the rest of RSN as well. You can't see that to the Twins, Brewers, Orioles, Braves, etc....we're both evil, we both buy championships, we both have unfair advantages. Look at last year. You lost to Tampa [oh, that was f***ing great, by the way]...did you realize that the difference between your payrolls was more than double their payroll? You don't think they would be bitching? That would be relatively equivalent to us having a $450 million payroll. You won't find a Yankee fan here who doesn't acknowledge the advantage we have. The sad thing is, we outnumber the Red Sox fans here who acknowledge the same thing. Last I checked, there were a few more Red Sox fans here than Yankee fans.
  4. We have had some good ones, haven't we? Jacko, you have to admit...he followed my game plan pretty well, and even better than I thought since he got Tex. [Goodness, I can be arrogant...whoever thought that...me being a Yankee fan and all]. However, last year was easy. This year is much tougher. I won't argue with success, unlike Dipre, I know it's a losing proposition, but let's see what he does this off-season. Sadly, we are pretty much in agreement on their moves, so it looks like our classic fights will stay that..classic. Personally, Jacko, I think he made a huge error in not getting Santana. We both want Lackey, but when you think about it would you rather have Lackey, Melky, and Kennedy or Santana? Because from a major league standpoint, that's what we would have lost, and the salaries are a wash for the most part. Anyways, last off-season was the easiest. Next one will be he hardest, with 2011 right up there, and maybe even tougher. If he wins it again next year, in my book, all is forgiven and I'm on his bandwagon.
  5. The Mets with Beltran. Also, I would say the Red Sox did with Matsuzaka. It's just not easy to do. I really thought that Tex was signed and delivered to Boston until Henry went down there. Remember, Tex was supposedly not in the picture for the Bombers. Cashman had to go back and ask for more money from the Steinbrenners. We had Nady in RF, and Swisher was going to play 1B. No one will really ever know except Boras, Tex, and Henry. I suspect that Henry dropped the ball, mainly for his Twittering ********. I am injecting my own opinion here, but if that's not sour grapes, I'd be surprised. Very surprised. I can't see an owner going after a lost free agent unless he feels he f***ed up and had to validate it. It reminds me of when the Red Sox had a press conference to announce HOW Damon went to the Yankees. Who the f*** does that? Unless someone thinks they royally f***ed up, why on earth do either one? My guess, anyways.
  6. Actually, Dipre, you are correct here. It is the fault of the system. The Yankees buy their championships more than any other team. This is indisputable. Followed, in this last decade, by the Red Sox. It's not just payroll. It's scouting as well. Is it really a surprise that the some of the best international stars are on the big market teams? Where would Arnoldis Chapman go if he was eligible for the draft? What about Matsui or Matsuzaka? Smaller market teams cannot compete evenly. This has been the case since baseball began. The Yankees did what they were supposed to do. Win within the rules. The problem isn't the Yankees, it is the system. Since my team benefits, personally, I do NOT want to see it change. Selfish? Yes. Fair play? Not really? Do I care? No. At least I'm honest. However, what grates on any sensible Yankee fan's sensibilities is the majority of Red Sox Nation's blatant disregard of their own team doing the EXACT same thing, just to a lesser degree.
  7. Couldn't have said it any better. Go back to sleep.
  8. Please explain your point.
  9. He's won some arguments, he's lost some arguments with me. It's the nature of the beast. However, he backs up his arguments with logic and statisics and solid reasoning, as well as being articulate. I've learned from him, as I'm reasonably sure he learned from me. That's why you should learn. See, one thing your little brain can't figure out is one of the reasons I came here was to hear the other side and debate things. Kilo, ORS, a700, example1...all have debated with me. However, sadly, you're not up to par. Hopefully, seriously, you will be one day. I think you're a smart guy, just not a good debater. Back to the argument...or debate....you can't blame the Yankees for winning. Change the system, blame the system...but don't blame the Yankees. In the last 10-15 years, the Red Sox have employed EVERYTHING the Yankees have, just to a lesser degree. As the second richest team, they have the 2nd most success. Pretty much the end of the story.
  10. Dipre...read....learn....improve. ORS, I disagree with it being simple to get the MLBPA to accept a cap of any sort. There is no benefit whatsoever for them. Honestly, there really isn't a reason for baseball to do it either.
  11. True...none of us were there. So none of us knew what really happened. However, from the reports of what we read, the Tex negotiations were bungled when Henry went down there to try to seal the deal. Here is but one link of many on the deal. http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2008/12/19/apparent-deal-for-mark-teixeira-fizzles-what-happened-between-r/ If this link is to be believed [and I realize that since none of us were there, we won't know for sure], the Yankees signed Tex for LESS than what the Red Sox offered. As for whether they walked away or not, this is what Henry said: Now...lets say that the final offer the Red Sox made was 8 years, 160 million. The Yankees signed him for 8 years, 180 million. That's a difference of 20 million in 8 years, or 2.5 million a year. Would you make this trade? Mark Teixeira Justin Masterson Nick Hagadone Bryan Price for Victor Martinez 2.5 million They dropped the ball.
  12. What's your point?
  13. Idiocy to the highest degree. Truly. I will not defend ANY TEAM that overspends over the median. The amount a team overspends is pretty much directly related to it's success. To state thy baseball is more of a sport than a business...well it figures it comes from Dipre.
  14. You whine more than anyone here. The Yankees make the most money, they spend the most money. Deal with it. You bought your championships as well...just not with as much money. You don't need a girlfriend. You are your own bitch.
  15. You dropped the ball on Damon, and you did good with Pedro. It happens. Cafardo may not realize that the Yankees don't mind going one year over. It's FOUR or FIVE years over that's been killing them.
  16. Felix won't go anywhere. It just doesn't make sense.
  17. Logic=What's best for the Red Sox, irrespective of the rest of baseball. Let's set a cap where only 1/3 of the teams in baseball can hit. f*** the other 2/3. Gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up, sport!!
  18. Self-serving. $100 million. Funny. You know how many teams are at or over 100 million in 2009? Nine. So..let's pick a number where we can trim the fat and still have a good team. You know what the 15th team in contracts is at? 81 million. How good is your team at $81 million? Can you beat the Twins? I'll help you out. No. Plus, the Twins are spotting you 14 million since they sit at 67 million. If it wasn't for Yeszir's desire to play nice with no personal attacks, I'd call you a douchebag.
  19. It means nothing. The Yankees are 80 million away from the Red Sox. The Red Sox are 77 million above the Padres. Big deal. STRAWMAN ALERT!!! Show me again ONE time I never acknowledged payroll disparity. I always have. I am glad I root for a team that is willing to put money out there rather than in their pockets as according to Forbes. The Red Sox put approximately 26 million in their pockets. 4th highest payroll. 5th place finish. Consistent. Now..show me one Red Sox fan who acknowledges your payroll disparity over the other 28 teams this decade. One second. ORS has acknowledged it. Show me another. Sorry, this is the system of baseball. You're blaming the Yankees for winning. Wow. I've made this argument before. If you think it needs changing, your issue should be with Selig, not the Yankees. You take advantage of the same situation, just not to the extreme we take it to. Acknowledged...again. For the umpteenth time. At least ORS admits that odds are, if there is a hard cap, his team will be nowhere nearly as successful as it has been. He's ok with this. I am not. I don't care that my team enjoys an advantage. I pay more money for my upper deck seats than 85% of all tickets in EVERY stadium. My team's ownership puts that money in a winning product, year after year. I've always stated it. What you really should ask yourself is why your Red Sox ownership has dropped payroll from 143 million in 2007 [your last championship by the way] to 121 million this year. Oh...they must have LOST money. They never sell out that park. At least our ownership puts the money in the team. Your ownership puts the money in their pocket while crying about ours...and convincing their fan base to cry about us, while laughing all the way to the bank with your money. Now that, my friend, is the definition of f***ing pathetic.
  20. LOL @ cap. Also...you really think you guys will win? That's funny. Enter the world of the Minnesota Twins!!!!
  21. The absurdity of it gets to me. I get it. The Yankees should be favored EVERY year with their payroll advantage. You know what? They are. The Red Sox should be the second team pretty much every year? You know what? They are. It's not like the Yankees are favored by say, Vegas odds, to win the championship as even money. On February 4th, the Yankees were 5/2 favorites. The Red Sox were 15/2. Next were the Cubs and Mets at 7/1, then the Phillies and Angels at 11/1. Are you seeing a trend here? Do the Yankees have an advantage? Of course. Do the Red Sox have an advantage. Of course they do. Do the Yankees have a bigger advantage than the Red Sox? Of course they do. Which is why they are favored over the Red Sox. I never said the Yankees didn't have more of an advantage than any other team. I have ALWAYS acknowledged this. All I said was the Red Sox, over the last decade, have had an advantage over every OTHER team but the Yankees. You can't see that. Can you acknowledge that? If not, the debate is over.
  22. Nah, I didn't get season tickets until 2002. As for loudness, with all due respect, not even close. Loudest ever? 1995 ALDS Game 1. The whole game was just a wall of noise. Loudest moments ever? Tie...Posada's bloop double in 03, Mattingly's homer in 95. The acoustics for the new Stadium will make it from ever being as loud. Wider stadium, more open air, and 6,000 less people will do that. No way around that. Last night was as loud as it can ever get when Victorino ended the game. You know what... As a hard-core fan... I wish everyone gets a shot at a game like last night. Seeing your team win the championship at home...I can't tell you how it feels. Especially when you've been sitting with the same fans for a decade. We all know each other, hang out a few times during the off-season, a little over 100 of us are getting together tomorrow to watch the parade together... Man, it was priceless. It really was. As a fan, I hope you all feel that one day.
  23. The funny thing about the Justice homer is I never saw it land. I was still wearing glasses at the time and my brother and I snuck in rum in this fake binoculars flask I owned. We were f***ing hammered, and we were in the left field bleachers. When Justice hit it, my brother turned to me to high five me and smacked me right in the face, sending my glasses three rows down. I'm looking for my glasses while everyone is celebrating, and then I had like twenty people looking with me. After the cheering died down, I found my glasses and raised them up like a trophy and our section started cheering. It was funny, a spontaneous cheer breaks out two minutes after the homerun. They must have thought we were the "special" section. That's my favorite memory from that game.
