  1. I think Pettitte has had marginal success in the AL East the last time around, don't you think? If he pitches like he did in the second half of last year...hope you guys have enough for the wild card.
  2. Not many teams have a solid 5. However, the potential we have with #5 is better than most team's #4. I am still holding out that dipshit has something left. Remember, in Florida, he was pretty much as good as Beckett. Imagine if they both come back and pitch the way they can. See you in the ALCS.
  3. I have a question for the INTELLIGENT, COMMON SENSE fans of the Red Sox...please, if you are an idiot, don't reply. You know who you are, and so do I...so find some other post to discuss this particular point please...but here is the question. Do you really believe that with the market explosion the way it is, that the Sox can realistically sign this guy and tie him up for such a long time with their comparatively low offer of approximately 8 million? I mean, even 12 million seems a little low. I mean if Meche gets 50+ million, and Pettitte gets 16 million per, Lilly for 10 million per..can the Sox really expect that Boras will accept a lower offer for a pitcher that is acknowledged to be better than all of them by a long shot, due to the posting fee? What does he care what some team posted? He's supposed to care that some team posted $51 million? That's irrelevant to him, and it should be. I mean, if I was Boras, I would be partying like crazy right now... Try to put yourself in Boras's shoes for a second, and forget that you are Sox fans...if you were Matsuzaka's agent, what would you shoot for? I, for one, wouldn't let him sign for less than 15 per. I would let him walk, and negotiate with the Lions for his release. Can you imagine the bidding war between the Yanks, Mets, and Rangers for this guy? Remember, he gets paid according to what he signs the player for, not the posting fee. Think about that...if what I'm saying comes to pass [which I don't think it will], Boras would control the top two pitchers left [and 2 of the top 3 to begin with] in the market...with no restrictions. What are your thoughts?
  4. I agree with you..but he was as clutch a post-season hitter out there...remember? Maybe the Yankees should bring him back just so he can teach Arod a thing or two about hitting under pressure... I mean, how many guys can say they hit 3 clutch homeruns with his team behind/tied, in three different post-seasons? Not many.
  5. Well, the Yankees definitely got someone on their terms. If you look at it like the Yankees did, Pettitte is a stop gap player. Next year, RJ comes off the books with his 15+ million, followed by Pettitte and his 16 million. The year after that, both Mussina and Pavano come off the books. I give Cashman credit for improving the team without tying up the books for years to come. So now, the rotation looks like this: Wang Pettitte Mussina Johnson Pavano/Igawa/Karstens With Hughes and Sanchez in the wings, and being eased in slowly, it definitely looks good for the long run. You guys may laugh, but if Pavano comes back and pitches decently, say with a 4.50 ERA, the Yankees have as deep a rotation as there is. Not bad... The gap widens....
  6. That deal is dead. The Yankees told the Mariners that they would have to take back Pavano's full salary and years, and they declined.
  7. Rumor has it that the actual negotiation for Matsuzaka will start at 11:54 PM on December 13th. LOL!
  8. What did I miss? What the hell is this all about?
  9. Imagine if Shawn Kemp took time out for every woman he knocked up. I guess it is the male equivalent of rotator cuff, or tommy john surgery.
  10. Thank you. See, even Sox and Yankee fans can agree sometimes.
  11. More fodder for me to shred. There's just nothing left of ORS and example1. Need fresh meat to chop up. Welcome aboard!
  12. You may not like him, but if you were a player, you would love him. He does his job extremely well. It's all about the money for him, and you to respect that. It's not like he comes out saying anything else. One thing he isn't, is a hypocrite.
  13. Why does everyone hate Boras? He is doing his job better than any other agent. He maximizes his client's money. When did that become a bad thing? It's not like the owners aren't richer than the players anyways. He's just doing his job folks. You have to respect and admire him for it.
  14. As Yankee fans, we can only pray. What's up Schillingouttheks?
  15. Lets not forget that if Rivera could have held the lead in game 7, 2001...Clemens outpitched Schilling. He left with the lead, 2-1. I'm not a Pettitte fan. Never really was. Anyways, he's better than what we have, so I guess go get him.
  16. I would want to come back to, if I saw the money players were making this offseason.
  17. That is a good stat ORS, I must admit. I'm not such a fan of ball park stats though. I think it is too skewed towards the home park. I think a better true measure is the away stats, since it is much more variable. My opinion though.
  18. Well, I think that Williams realizes that these guys are overrated, but I think he could have got a lot more for both of them. However, Garland will be good and put up better numbers than Pettitte did last year in Houston, so it won't look good for the Sox next year.
  19. Showing that 98% of the posters on this board are pretty much representative of your pathetic team's futility for the last 90 odd years? Sorry your panties are in a bunch when we point out the obvious and it doesn't jell with your fantasy dreaming of your beloved bunch of losers. I've met about 4 or 5 posters here who although they disagree with me, understand baseball, and are respectful, and like debating the Sox moves [as well as the Yankees]. Those people are priceless. They are fun, intelligent, and the only thing wrong with them in my eyes is that they root for the wrong team. You are not one of those people. Now run along.
  20. If I'm an idiot, then you are completely f***ing clueless, and a moron to boot. The difference right now seems to be this. No one knew Pavano would turn into a ghost, or Giambi would fall off like he did. At the time, everyone thought Pavano was an up and coming star, and Giambi was HOF material [go back and look at his numbers up until 2001]. Pretty much everyone knows that the signings of Drew and Lugo were bad financial deals at the time they were made. The Yankees aren't immune. Igawa was a waste of money, fine. The Sox are going to be in the hole for about $200 million for three players. All I'm saying is that if the Sox don't live up to expectations, and/or these guys bomb, the lights in Fenway will be dim for at least three or four years while you guys try to figure a way out of it. Of course...winning cures all ills...so the story is to be written...but boy, is your FO taking a huge chance.
  21. LOL! Go get 'em Jacksonian! I think the Sox fans are realizing that if this all doesn't pan out for them, they have effectively hamstrung themselves for the next 4 years. Drew and Lugo for $100 million? LOL! Expect to see half of the players signed this winter to be dangled at the trade deadline this year or next.
