  1. What I'm saying it is that the loss of Schilling puts the Red Sox behind the Yankees at this point.
  2. Well then, I give you credit. That's like me saying that Hughes will be in the top 3 in the Cy Young, and win 20 games this year.
  3. Who's to say they'll have another slow start? Who's to say the Red Sox don't? Or both? Or neither?
  4. Yes I did. Considering you finished in third place the year before, it wasn't a bad call. There isn't a person here who was claiming Beckett was Cy Young material before last season began. So what you're saying....is that in an off-season in which neither team did anything at all...the Sox, with their second/third most effective pitcher effectively done for at least half the season, if not for the whole year....have gained 5.5 games on the Yankees? Toronto, which did nothing either, gained 12.5 games on the Yankees? I love spring training. Truth is, the Yankees will probably go into the season better than last year. We started Carl Pavano on opening day. True, we don't have anything close to Hughes/Kennedy/Chamberlain waiting in the wings, but think about who we did have last year. Last year, we had the following pitchers start games for us: Igawa Tyler Clippard Matt DeSalvo Darrell Rasner Sean Henn Jeff Karstens Carl Pavano Chase Wright Total starts by these future Hall Of Famers: 39 We still won 94 games. The Yanks will end up around 96-100 wins. Good enough to make the playoffs. Probably enough to win the division.
  5. At this point, the pictures are turning into obsessive and I'm starting to question your sexual preferences.
  6. I know I'm in the minority here as Yankee fans, but I hope Schilling does make it back and has a decent season. I like him, and I hate to see a career ended on an injury.
  7. Taken from Peter Abraham's LoHud Yankees Blog: http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2008/02/16/the-only-pavano-post-of-the-spring-promise/
  8. That's because with a bum shoulder he can't shovel food into his mouth as fast.
  9. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/fantasy/dc/index.php?&affiliate=3 My opinion? Right now, the Yanks win the division because Schilling is hurt. Funny, but I completely agree with Schilling's comment last season. The Yankees and Red Sox are so close, it will be the team that gets the most starts out if their starters that wins the division. Who's going to make more starts? Beckett, Matsuzaka, Schilling, Buchholz, Lester or Wang, Pettitte, Mussina, Hughes, Kennedy Whoever has more starts wins the division. I honestly think it's that simple. P.S. Can anyone post the PECOTA results here?
  10. Devean George blocked the trade. Wow...didn't see that one coming. Damn...I was hoping the Nets could rebuild with this trade.
  11. Maybe you can answer this thing for me, since some of you are minor league junkies. Who is considered the better prospect, Phil Hughes or Clay Buchholz? Not your opinions, what do the so-called experts say?
  12. If you're new, frisky, and female, I'm interested. If you're a guy, you're a loser Red Sox fan. Come to think of it, with two championships in four years...I think we Yankee fans are the losers. Check that. Pats fans...real losers. Big time. Screw Bellichek and the Pats. I suddenly feel better.
  13. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3244102 Man, the West is really stocking up this year. I think I might just make the All-Star squad for the East. If I do, I'll relegate ORS to the East reserves, where he should be.
  14. vs. another. Like I said...pretty much a wash at this point in time.
  15. Touche. I stand corrected. I wonder who'll have the better first half of the season...Mussina or Schilling. I'd say it's about a wash.
  16. Which is exactly why he won't be traded. His upside is much higher than Blanton, so why move him at a low point? If he has another injury-plagued year, he would net pretty much the same prospects as he would now. If he has a good year, stays injury free, he's be moved for a king's ransom. Come on, SITN, you're brighter than that.
  17. The police are involved only because he filed a fake police report.
  18. This s*** is too funny. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=wojciechowski_gene&id=3236039
  19. Tampa Bay 2008 AL East Champions.
  20. The Yankees/Red Sox have improved the way the Tigers/Guardians have in the Santana deal. Take one of the best pitchers out of the division. May result in an extra win or two for each team.
  21. Just say no to drugs.
  22. I agree. Also, I think it may be a blessing in disguise, as I think that you're you're kids may be better pitchers this year than Schilling.
  23. Here is something that I am starting to believe happened....and that my tiny little brain believes, lol. Santana going to the Mets....was agreed upon by the Yankees and Red Sox. Wait a second before you dismiss this off-hand. Think about this. Theo and Cashman are reputed to be friends and get along. They just hung out together for some official function just before the Santana deal. Is it inconceivable that the following happened? Cash: Theo, I got a deal for you. I don't want to give up my farm system for this guy. Do you? Theo: Not really. I think my kids are better than yours. Cash: Funny, I was thinking the same about mine. So here's my deal. Let's both pass, and let him go to the Mets. My feeling is that Santana is going to blow his arm out sometime during the extension he wants, and then I'm screwed. However, with Hank breathing down my neck, I won't have a job if you get him. Theo: I'm still listening Cash...but what if they drop their demands? Cash: They will. They'll probably come to me first. I'll decline, then you do the same. Let the Mets tie up their money for years, and kill their payroll. After all, three years from now, we'd both be better if we didn't make this deal. Theo: Sounds good to me. You're gonna get killed in the press. Cash: Not if I'm holding the 2008 World Series trophy. Theo: What if I don't let you? Ok...agreed. Let's see who can build a team better from the ground up. Cash: Good..now what? Theo: Hmm...wanna hit up 49th street and find us some hookers? Cash: Only if their Asian. Theo: That's what I'm talking about...let's go, I'll drive. I really believe this coulda happened.
