Kilo, since you're the newest member of the Die Hard Yankee Fan Club, let me point out some things to you buddy.
1) Girardi defended his player. That's what a manager is supposed to do. That's his JOB. That's every manager's job. I never saw a more uncomfortable manager defending his player than Torre when Clemens tried to spear Piazza with a bat shard in the World Series. Part of the job description.
2) Pete Rose ran over a catcher in an All-Star Game. The ultimate bush league play. Agreed. Spring training is different, but closer to the All-Star game IMHO.
3) I was watching the game. Phillips threw a high and tight fastball that brushed the Jersey. The ump over-reacted. You don't hit someone if there are two players on base with two out.
4) It's high time that the Yankees stood up for themselves. The Yankees, by and large, have been a very pacifist team under Torre. A little edge to them can't hurt them.
Now...all this being said....as a Yankee fan...Shelley Duncan was DEAD WRONG. I would not be surprised, nor upset, if he was suspended, and deservedly so. He took a chance at seriously injuring a player INTENTIONALLY. The play that broke Cervelli's wrist was a stupid, unnecessary play, but it was a clean play, and the injury was unintentional. This resulted in no injury to really speak of, but it was intentional.
You guys know me. I love the Yankees, but I do my best to not let my subjective love for my team cloud my objectivity.
