  1. Welcome to the world of Yankee fans who overvalue everyone on their team, and undervalue everyone else on every other team. I would trade anyone for Santana. Chamberlain included. Even Jeter, lol. Hell, I'd trade Arod for the guy, talent-wise.
  2. Unquestionably. We should have gotten something worthwhile, but remember, it was addition by subtraction. So we got a bar of soap. Remember, it's not like we gave up much to get him, he was a free agent.
  3. As reported on ESPN, Yanks in preliminary trade talks with the Twins about Santana. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3129086
  4. Umm...yeah. Hence the term "contract".
  5. You know whats funny about this? The NYS Taxation Bureau claims to know what one of it's constituents has in his apartment that's near and dear to the constituent from four years ago. The irony of it is that there is no claim from 2004-2006, which means according to the Taxation Bureau, he is a legal resident of Florida. Just not in those years. This has to be about the dumbest thing posted about a player on this board. The papers here in New York have absolutely NOTHING on this non-story two days after it broke. However, there are articles on Yorvit Torrealba's deal with the Mets that fell apart. If the NY media, which lives for scandals, ignores the story the next day....figure it out.
  6. My picks..in order of severity: Vick, a horribly heinous act that will rightfully get him prison time. Clinton, due to his status as President and lying under oath. Bonds, for disgracing the most sanctified record in sports. . . . . . . Jeter. For doing something that is estimated 30-40% of Americans do. Check the link. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07084/772106-28.stm About the only law that people break with more frequency is speeding. Guess what? I do that too. I know, you are really happy that that $20 nail was hammered by that $500 hammer in that government building. You pay for it. I'll keep the money.
  7. I posted my feelings on the matter. It's funny how Red Sox fans care about Jeter's tax issues. I personally don't care. You're right about the military being an exception, I'm in finance, not taxation, so I'm not an expert on taxation matters. As for my taxes, if I could get away with paying ZERO for taxes I would. Good for Jeter. I hope he beats it and doesn't pay a dime. I would say the same for anyone in baseball, even Bonds. I hate the taxation system. Welcome to the real world Bill. The system is fraught with deception. Take a look at the mortgage industry. Stated income loans? Also known as liars loans? Plus, from what I read in the paper, its for three years that he claims Tampa. Where he gets his checks, where he gets his mail, there are many ways he can prove his residence. I lived overseas for three years. I wasn't a residence there, it was temporary for work. When my contract was up, I returned to my home. Was I resident there? Legally, yes. Taxation wise, yes. Found a good accountant who was able to claim otherwise, so I didn't pay taxes here or there. I claim my brother as a dependent since I pay for his medical schooling so he doesn't have to take a loan, and I get the tax breaks. The system is skewed to let those that have the money keep it. I can't believe that you are that naive not to realize this. Anyone who doesn't go to an aco****ant to do their taxes has a fool for a client. I'm sure his accountants will figure out a way to get him out of it. Wake up.
  8. The time to trade him is now Jacko. His value will decrease as his production decreases. April: .695 OPS June: .707 OPS Sept: .689 OPS He had the softest 100 RBI season in recent memory. I say trade him now while he still has value. His body is starting to break down, and he is a below average fielder. Check out his groundouts Jacko. He didn't have a groundout to third base on the dirt ALL SEASON. Not even one. The only ground outs he had to third were nubbers by the mound. You know how many opposite field homeruns he had, and when I say opposite field, I'll count 1 inch to the left of dead center? If you said ZERO, you win a prize! Jacko, you are even less objective than ORS about your team. He will have a serious decline next year IMO. I never liked his stance as a hitter, and now we will see a Giambi redux, a serious drop in batting average with the same power. Damon is a better player than Matsui at this point in their careers. Trading Matsui will probably net you some value from another team.
  9. Boras's reputation has taken a HUGE hit this off-season. He is no longer the superagent he kept telling everyone. All that's left is Andruw Jones going behind his back to make a deal and he'll have lost three major free agents in one off-season. I wonder who will hold the title of the best agent in baseball now?
  10. Yeah...like no one here has ever cheated on his taxes. Sure... That weekend in Vegas with three strippers as a business expense...nope...never been done by one of us. Riiiight. The s*** my accountant does for me makes Jeter look like a choir boy. People do this s*** all the time...claim residence for taxes, car insurance, etc. I'd be surprised if he had to pay anything, he works here in New York but lives in Florida. Prove otherwise. Personally, I couldn't care less if you paid me about his living arrangements. All I know is that I would be one hell of a hypocrite if I said anything about this issue. f*** the IRS and anyone who wants to take away my money. Good for Jetesy.
  11. Matsui is no longer a good hitter. He has stopped going to the opposite field, and is falling into that Giambi zone of trying to pull everything. He will be atrocious next year. He had one phenomenal month last year....the other five months were poor.
  12. Let's see how I've done so far... 1. Got it. Girardi to the Yankees. Score one for gom. 2. Got it. Score another one for gom. I'm awesome. 3. Still in process. Call it a success if they pull it off, a wash if he resigns, and a loss if he goes elsewhere. 3b. As good an idea as this is, it hasn't been pursued. Call it a failure. 4. This is what happens when you listen to your brother without checking on Pena's status. A failure of stupidity. 5. Even though the money was off, the brought him back. Success. 6. Don't drop the soap Barry. Failure. I doubt he'll ever play baseball again. 7. A work in progress, at least I hope. Consider it a failure if Matsui is with the Yankees opening day, and a success if he's gone. Most likely, a failure. I consider this a success. Rivera is just sweating the Yankees out the way they did it to him. Considering the Yankees got admonished by blowing the reliever market away, Rivera would be a fool to even look elsewhere. No one is giving him 45 million over 4 years, let alone three years. So that makes me 4-3 with two undecideds [stupid brother].
  13. Adding Lowell to us and subtracting him from the Sox gives us the division.
  14. Guys, I think you're missing the point. The Yankees can afford Lowell. The whole point of making the offer public is to put pressure on the Red Sox to increase the offer to Lowell in both years and money, and to tie up their payroll. It's a no-lose situation for the Yankees. Pavano [8 mil], Giambi [18 mil (23 salary minus 5 mil buyout], Abreu 16 mil, Mussina 12 mil, Pettitte 16 mil [if he comes back this year are gone]. That's 70 million coming off the books, up to nearly $100 million with the luxury tax figured in. The only ones you need to replace are Abreu and Pettitte. So figure out of the 70 million, you need to spend 32 million to replace them. The other's are at this point bit players and not much to replace. It's a gamesmanship ploy for Lowell...push the Red Sox to tie up their payroll. Remember, when we got Damon, the offer was made, accepted, and delivered before anyone knew what happened up there. This is just grandstanding.
  15. The truth is, he's not worth what he's asking for. You know, I hope the Red Sox sign Lowell, and that the Angels trade for Cabrera. At that point, who's left? Mets....why play second fiddle in New York? Secondly, as much as Minaya wants to make a splash, he already has All-Stars at both 3B and SS. Doesn't make fiscal sense for the Mets or a logical one for Arod. Dodgers...Even with Arod, the Dodgers are not the class of the West. In fact, the Arod signing puts them ahead of the Giants. That's it. Goodbye post-season for the next three years. Marlins...please. Giants...even with Arod, the worst team in the division. Wonder if they have a good school system. Doesn't make sense. Unless he signs with the Red Sox, or Angels, he is not making the playoffs year after year. The Mets would be a downgrade for him, but seeing how they choked in September, he would be a good fit there. I really think that Boras made a mistake by opting him out. I think this mistake will cost his client millions.
  16. Both Posada and Rivera will be coming back. They were never the issue.
  17. I hate Scott Boras. Just felt like putting that out there.
  18. I personally hope the Red Sox sign Arod. Yes, you'll have the best team in baseball next year. Doesn't guarantee a thing, we both have seen it. However, it will tie up your payroll for years and years, and when that huge class gets free in 2009 [and a good one in 2008], you'll be out of it.
  19. Don't kid yourself. The Yankees made that offer already. This was on top of the deal he already had. I don't see why Arod would want to go to the Sox. If they win, he'll never be Papi or Manny or Tek or Paps. If they lose, it's his fault. It's New York all over again. Wear a halo Arod. Enjoy the sun, the fun, and watch him miss the excitement of New York. Once you make it in New York, Boston, and St. Louis, the rest is just ********. He's about to find out.
  20. I love it. I wish they'd include safe/out calls, fair/foul calls, caught/trapped calls. Like football, every team gets one challenge a game, and one in extra innings. There is rarely more than one blown call a game anyways.
  21. I think that both you guys and us hate Scott Boras. You know what I hope for? The rumor is he has a deal in place with another team, which is why he opted out. I hope that this rumored team pulls it's offer off the table, leaving Boras high and dry. I hope that whichever team Arod ends up with offers him a lesser salary than what he would have made with the Yankees. Finally, then, Boras would lose that superagent status.
