  1. I'm not saying that it would happen...nor should it. I am simply raising the question, that's all. However, with Swisher's versatility, that pushes Melky to 6th on the depth chart of potential OFs after Damon, Nady, Matsui, Gardner and Swisher. With no room for Melky, and no room for Kennedy...I see a trade possibly involving both of them. I agree with Jacko on one thing, even though he's been self-medicating. They have a lot of versatility with Swisher on board. That's it. I'm not one of those fans who thinks that the Yankees are getting everyone. Just that this deal gives them a better opportunity to make a trade. The only potential trade we've heard so far from Yankee camp has been Peavy. Leave it at that. Jacko..the Yankee budget is written on transparent paper.
  2. I think the move may have been made with Peavy in mind. Seriously. Think about this. Melky goes in the deal. Young enough for SD to take a chance, and a good CF for that canyon they have out there. Kennedy still has some value, especially in the NL [Yankee PR machine at work]. Another prospect or two, maybe a Betances, or Melancon, or Austin Jackson..maybe even a Phil Hughes, and you're talking serious potential for a deal. What does that do? Well, that allows the CC move, and since you are getting Peavy at a discount, that leaves you with more money to go after Tex. With Peavy at 9 million, CC at 25 million, and Tex at 20 million...that is 54 million, with say another 10-12 million for Pettitte, say 12...that's 66 million, and that is still over 20 million LESS than last year. With Matsui, Damon, Nady, Swisher, and Gardner...there is really no room at all for Melky.
  3. Example...come back to planet earth. No way Wood is coming to Boston to be a setup man. That's like me saying the Yankees should sign K-Rod to be the 8th inning guy for the Yankees. If the Red Sox sign Lowe, and the Yankees sign CC and AJ...imagine this. Beckett Lester Matsuzaka Lowe Wake vs. CC Wang Burnett Chamberlain Pettitte Disgusting. Just plain filthy. The number 4 starter on either team would be the ace on most staffs.
  4. Swisher is a high-end guy? Oh my God, I haven't laughed this hard in weeks. Jacko...I love how you've changed your tune. Last year, you don't want to give up prospects...this year, you're gung-ho about going after every free agent in the world...at the expense of prospects. You also seem willing to give up the same players for Peavy, who is not as good as Santana. I guess this puts to bed our season-long argument. Glad to see you on my side.
  5. Ham sandwich speaks...and makes no sense as usual. What a douche.
  6. You guys...and I'm not pointing fingers specifically, just in general...you want players to be upfront and honest, and when they say something you don't like, you kill them for it. That's what I mean about you guys being hypocritical. Either expect them to toe the line, or to throw caution to the wind. You want them just to say what they are supposed to say? What's the point then? I like how both of them, Ortiz and Schilling came out and voiced their opinions. They had the fortitude to come out and say what they think. Kudos to both of them.
  7. No...but to be knowledgeable about the sport, you have to be able to watch it and dissect what you see. It's not enought to just look at the numbers.
  8. And what exactly does that mean, kind sir?
  9. I'm black from the waist down. LOL!
  10. I don't get it.
  11. Maybe I didn't make myself clear. The fans...you guys...are the hypocrites. You want players to be honest and come clean, and when they do, you guys rip them and say they should shut up. Can't have it both ways.
  12. Both of us were dumb enough to not look at the damn tickets. What a brain fart by the both of us. That's just cruel and unusual punishment.
  13. I didn't realize I had Cutler and Peterson on the bench from two weeks ago, lol. Ok guys, who needs a TE? I have Winslow, I need a RB or WR of comparable value. Last chance for me to try to make a trade. I also have David Garard if someone needs a QB, but I'd need one in return. Please make me a fair offer. Thanks.
  14. These are just the bleacher ones. Section 39 is now Section 203. We're kinda known out there, and one of the ladies set up our whole section and drew it up and took it to Lon Trost, the Yankees Chief Operating Officer. Funny...the relocation for the seats hasn't been done yet, and our whole section, 144 seats, has already been taken care of. The other six seats I haven't gotten word yet. To answer your question, $3000. My guess is that the other six will be about $8000. Ouch.
  15. I agonized. I waffled. I questioned myself. In the end...I folded. I sold out. I went ahead and bought season tickets again for my Yankees. Even after I swore I wouldn't when Cashman was rehinred. Wait...it get's worse. Not only did I buy them...but I upgraded from the 46 game plan to the full-season plan. I deserve all the abuse you guys wish to give me. Pour it on. Abuse me.
  16. I don't know why everyone here is ripping his opinion. I believe that if the Red Sox have Manny, you guys would have won back-to-back titles. Don't believe so? Look at what he did for the Dodgers in the post-season. Say what you want about Manny, but he has never layed down in the playoffs. I don't understand...he's asked a question, he answered it honestly, and you guys rip him for it. Talk about a bunch of hypocrites.
  17. Love is in the air...
  18. Taken from John Heyman from ESPN.
  19. First of all...even I, the anti-Cashman, have to admit it was a good deal. However, let's not put the 2009 World Series trophy in the new Yankee Stadium yet. Swisher is a below average 1B and outfielder overall. He does not hit for average, and his power is below average for a corner OF or 1B, at least compared to what we are used to in New York. He does bring somethings to the table. He can play all 3 OF positions, average in the corners and below average in center. He is an average to above-average defensive 1B. In replacing Giambi at 1B, he gives you a better glove and a weaker bat. However, as a switch-hitter who is basically equal from both sides of the plate, he balances the lineup a bit. His biggest contribution is that he led the league in pitches seen per AB at 4.51 P/PA among qualified hitters. He also had the lowest BA in all of baseball for players who qualified for the batting title. If Swisher is a starter come opening day, Cashman has done a poor job at filling the OF or 1B. However, as a player on the bench, one who can rotate among all 3 OF positions and 1B, he is a very valuable sub and is great insurance against injury. That's it guys. A good move, but a minor one. Let's remember too...Marquez is one of the players the Twins wanted for Santana. Just throwing that in there. Now...for additional commentary on the commentary of my fellow Yankee fan. Good point. Agreed. However, his upside is not that great either. They bought low, but it's still not a high-impact move. He's a switch-hitter, and Comisky is hitter-friendly. Considering the talented pitching staffs in the AL East, a decline is just as likely as an improvement. Agreed. Although his defense in CF is below average, expect to see Gardner cover CF more. This all but ends Melky's tenure in New York. Look for the Yankees to deal Melky...a good fit may be to the Padres. Towers and Cashman have a good history, and Melky would go a long way in CF in the spacious San Diego Park. Could this move have been made with the idea of packaging Melky with a super-prospect or two for Peavy? Not necessarily my friend. He may have peaked early, it happens a lot. Keep in mind that just because a player joins your team, he won't necessarily get better...or worse. An OPS between .750 and .825 is more likely. He is overpaid as a sub, and not talented enough to be a regular. However, money is not the concern it would be for other teams. Agreed. It gives us depth on our roster where we were weak, the bench, but it is not a game-changer type of move. I'm not as excited as you or 26 about this move, but our team is better than it was yesterday.
  20. I'll say this. I'm not the most knowledgeable guy about football, but Mangini is an outright TERRIBLE coach. From what I saw, he rushed 4 guys, giving journeyman Cassel the game of his life, and he never had a stay at home linebacker to shadow the quarterback. I'm not taking anything away from Cassel's effort, but Mangini is out of his league as a coach. Given an equal squad against Bellichek, he'd get murdered. The Jets were by far the more talented team in my opinion tonight [mainly due to injuries] and the fact that the Pats were even in the game, let alone take it to overtime, is a testiment to Bellichek's ability to adjust at half-time, and Mangini's inability to do so.
