  1. Well good luck to you. You're one of the nicer people here, I wouldn't mind losing to you. I won't be around the next two weekends I believe, so it's not like I will be able to watch my team.
  2. First of all...it is a bad idea to give a long-term contract for an "up the middle player" for a player on the wrong side of 30. Those are young men, athletic positions. I'd give a long term deal to a 1B or RF much more readily than a SS or a CF. Just common sense. Secondly, the deal for Sabathia is $69 million for 3 years. Don't kid yourself. If he does well, or just maintains the status quo, he's out. If he hates NY, he's out. The current trend is to opt out, and he's a very safe bet to opt out.
  3. So..Jacko started this post how many days ago...and the deal isn't done yet?
  4. Sigh...no one ever thinks for themselves anymore. Once again everyone...why wouldn't the Yankees publicly say they are in for Tex, or Manny, or Lowe etc? If they're in, great. If they're not in, they drive the price up on the competition. So...they're in. I mean come on...the Red Sox met with Sabathia. Was that anything but FO gamesmanship? Stop. Think. Some of you do. Most of you don't. Now Tex makes sense for the Yankees...and Boston...and the Angels. Can't take the Nationals seriously...but with Boras, if they have the highest offer, he goes there. The Red Sox love Tex. They are Boras's choice, for reasons I listed before...they are the only team that WILL NOT be in the Manny sweepstakes. So why not give them Tex, because whatever team signs Tex won't sign Manny? However, of the big three teams, they need him the least. The Red Sox have the best offense of the three teams. He's a WANT more than a NEED. The Angels NEED him the most. They compare themselves the Yankees and Red Sox, and they can't compete if they go through an off-season losing Garland, Tex, K-Rod and Anderson and expect to compete. The Yankees would definitely want Tex, and the terms of need, they need him the 2nd most, as they lack a second power bat after Arod. It's somewhere between WANT and NEED for them. However, considering they are one of the most likely destinations for Manny, money being even [is it ever?], he goes elsewhere. No matter what is written about this...take what I said to the bank. Everything that is written, posted, rumored, talked about doesn't change the essentials. Thank you...we may root for different teams, but we see things similarly. Jacko...the self-appointed smartest person on Talksox [just ask him, he'll confirm it]...why don't you ever write something like this? It would be a lot of fun for me if there were two smart Yankee fans on here tormenting everyone, instead of everyone showing you how ridiculous you sound. By default, 26 to 6 has it, and he's too busy chasing 18 year old girls with big tits to pay attention here...come to think of it, I do the same thing...I guess I just have more expertise in both cases.
  5. I will bitch-slap you out of the playoffs. Love, Gom
  6. This guy is a cigarette.
  7. I was suggesting. He didn't follow what I laid out in 2008, and it lead to 3rd place. So far...he's followed MY blueprint...so you are right. If he signs Manny, he's basically done what I would have done. My ability to criticize his major league moves basically disappears. The thing with Cashman is this. He's got three years to develop players. That's when CC can opt out. That's when Mariano, Jeter, and Posada are either done, or close to being done. If we haven't come close to replacing them, then he's failed at player development.
  8. Exactly. The Yankees and Sox are pretty much dead even at this point. Factor in full seasons from all players on both teams, and its a flip of a coin.
  9. Why are you comparing 2007 Manny? Should I compare Posada's VORP of 2007? Please clarify this point. Many players have had career years at a young age. Do I think Pedroia is a scrub? Of course not. However, you guys expecting the same thing from Pedroia is like Yankee fans who expected 2007 Arod to be the norm.
  10. I'll give you a few reasons. No Manny. Probable career year from Pedroia. Ortiz's injury and age. Coco...the Yankees are improving, and if healthy, are improved. However, they haven't improved enough to catch the Red Sox.
  11. If you don't sign Tex, you run the risk of not making the playoffs. You've stayed the same. The Rays stayed the same. The Yankees are improving, and if healthy, are improved.
  12. The Yankees did not make up the wins they had last year. Major Losses: Pettitte Mussina Abreu Giambi Replacements: CC AJ Swisher Now...CC and AJ, even last season, had better combined numbers than Pettitte and Mussina. However, the loss of Giambi and Abreu dwarfs what Swisher can bring. The difference between the quartet of pitchers is significant. The difference between the offense is staggering. The thing about Burnett is that out of both rotations, he has the best pure stuff. He led the AL in strikeouts, and many scouts think he turned the corner last year. In fact, last year was a down year statistically. His I'm not one of those people to take a small sample size, but he had a terrible beginning of the year, and his post All-Star Break saw him compile a 2.86 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 10 K/IP. That dwarfed Beckett, beat Lester, and is comparable to Dice-K [Dice had a better ERA [better pen], but worse WHIP and K/IP]. In fact, last year was below his statistical norms. His WHIP and ERA were higher than normal. In fact, due to a terrible first half, his ERA was the highest in his career, not counting his sub-100 IP seasons. His ERA wehn he pitches over 200 IP? 3.30 in 2002 3.45 in 2005 4.07 in 2008 This guy is good, bordering on great when he stays on the mound.
  13. Time for an update. Shall we take a look? Not bad...I was off by 20 million, but I had the years dead on. Really missed on this one. I was half a million off. http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/hot_stove/posts/31261-yankees-back-in-teixeira-sweepstakes Would you call this one dead on? Nah... Even I, who works in banking, underestimated the effect of the economic woes on baseball. This is still open, and my guess is that Giambi is going to get less than 10 million. Would it be a good idea? I think so. The Big Sexy at 6-8 million would be a great deal. How funny could this be? I may be off on the money, but there is growing sentiment that this may happen. I still think is the biggest blunder of the off-season. However, his monetary demands may drop. I still advocate bringing him back. Only three other outfielders have 100 RBIs the last three seasons. Carlos Lee, Magglio Ordonez, and Carlos Beltran. That's a good group to be included with. Doesn't make sense if they don't bring back Abreu. Sadly, he decided to retire. Can't blame anyone on this one. Still hasn't been done. So far, I'm good on this one. I don't care for the deal, but it's a minor one either way. Well...I still think Pettitte is being offered too much money. However, 10 million or 8 million...not much to swallow for one year. So what do you think? Was I way off, or pretty much dead on point so far?

  15. You have no idea. I've already started my research on how to torment you if someone else signs Tex.
  16. I disagree. The Yankees are not the favorite, nor are they the underdog. I think they have effectively closed the gap between them and the Rays. I think it's a tossup. Red Sox have a better lineup. It's not even close. Yankees have a better rotation. It's not that close, either. While Beckett and Lester are good, solid pitchers, the Yankees can currently trot out CC, Wang, AJ, Joba, and probably Pettitte or Hughes. The Yankees have the best starting rotation in baseball. The Red Sox have a slight edge in the pen. Both of them are top 5 in baseball. The difference is what happens from NOW. If the Sox get Tex, they win the AL East. If the Yankees get Tex/Manny, they win the East. Keep in mind. CC=Mussina when looking at last year to this coming year. AJ>Pettitte, same as before. Giambi+Abreu>Swisher+Return of Matsui. The Yankees are still not as good as they were last year. However, banking on a return to form from Wang and Chamberlain, and the gap is non-existent.
  17. This move forces the Sox's hand, IMO. How funny would it be if the Nationals sign Tex...and the best free agent option is....Manny? LOL!
  18. Oh my God...this is so funny. Jacko...please promise me one thing. Never leave this site. You are so ridiculously entertaining.
