  1. It should have been. Just relaying the content from the announcers on EEI and the current state of the sox club. If DiceK went 7 innings, then you're all happy tonight
  2. That's the rumor. Apparently the Steiny brothers do not share the same passion and devotion as their father did. Sounds like the brothers want to keep the salary as is and not add past their current high water mark
  3. And you'd probably not get him. Remember, he's making $10 mil this yr, so that deal would be a pay cut. And currently his numbers are very solid. My guess is that some team thinks he's their long term solution in the #3 or #4 spot and pays him for 4 yrs at a 12-15 mil a yr rate
  4. The announcers kinda bagged on him a bit with good reason. 5 walks vs this lineup is pretty bad and even though he was very effective, his lack of longevity is ultimately what cost the sox the game. With their pen in tatters, the sox need 7 innings almost nightly from their starters so they can hand leads directly to Bard for 1 inning and Paps for 1 inning. Anything short of that is a failed job
  5. I see. Well, have a good night. Remember to take your nightly Haldol for your delusions and if the voices return, remember to come back to the hospital
  6. SCM, his career has been one of disappointment mixed in with now 2 stellar contract yrs. He's gonna get another long term deal. Do you want to be the ones who give it to him?
  7. Exactly. The name of the game with the sox and the yanks is to get signability guys later in the draft so they can get the talent that their draft spot doesnt afford them. Ranaudo is a top 2 pick kinda of player, they will need to pay him like one.
  8. a rational thought swept under the rug. A lot of people are pointing to the injuries without actually looking at what the sox did when they werent horrendously banged up
  9. I see, so rational thought doesnt phase you. Here, wear this... http://blog.masslive.com/redsoxmonster/2008/07/medium_pinkhat.jpg
  10. Like I said before, I think this came down to Lee in the offseason. There was an article this am that the Yankees wouldnt have had enough cash to sign Lee if they got Haren which was why they were balking at eating his whole contract. If that's true and the goal is to sign Lee in the offseason, then I cannot complain about this move.
  11. The DBacks needed the cash relief. But yeah, Saunders is a #3 and the only other prospect worth something is Skaggs, and he looks like a #3 as well.
  12. I disagree on the lineup thing. You guys have lost some time for your players, but we have 2 MVP caliber offensive players who played average to above average through 3 months. This month, they're hitting like MVP caliber players. If those guys are hitting like that, then the sox cannot match it. If they revert to the quasi suck they were mired in before this hot streak, then I would agree. As much as your injuries hurt, our slow start has hurt us. Jeter was hitting .260 for awhile, Tex was at the Mendoza line and Arod dipped into the .260's.
  13. Heard a good conversation on my way home on EEI. It started with the sox needs at the deadline. Well, it degenerated into a sellers or buyers argument. The crux of the argument that I completely agree with is that the sox cannot just sit back and do nothing. If they think they are buyers, ie, the return to health is gonna get them back in the race, then their pen needs help. Relying on Bard to the level that they do will leave him worthless in the playoffs. He needs help. And with Ramirez, Oki, Delcarmen and other suck around him, they have a gaping black hole that has been destroying games they should have won. If they are gonna be sellers, then they have a few expiring contracts to shop for the best offer, namely Ortiz, VMart, and Beltre. And only Ortiz might slip through waivers in August for a move. I think the Anaheim series will be a big barometer. If the sox lose 2 of 3 and fall 7 or 8 games back in the L column to the Rays for the WC, then it's over and they should sell. If they sweep and the Rays fall back to earth, then maybe they make a move for a reliever to shore up the pen. Regardless, we'll find out soon enough and standing pat is just not an option in either direction
  14. Yes of course the sox are better than the Yankees when they are healthy. LOL. Dude, you're 9 games back in the L column and cannot regularly beat the schleps of the league, let alone the good teams. Great teams take care of business against bad teams. The sox are proving this yr, be it health or other reasons, that they are not a great team. In April, the sox were missing one starter (Ellsbury) and they limped out of the gate. The sox were 7 games over .500 without Ellsbury and losing Beckett halfway through May. The fact of the matter is, that even when healthy, the sox just dont do what a championship caliber club does. And that is, beat the hell out of bad teams and play .500 or better ball vs the good teams. That is the blueprint for success in the regular season. So tell me, are the sox a better team even without VMart, Pedroia and Ellsbury, than the A's and the Mariners? Well, they're 3-4 against them
  15. My guess is Cashman is choosing Lee for 2011 over Haren for 2010 and beyond
  16. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/red_sox/view.bg?&articleid=1270038&format=&page=1&listingType=sox#articleFull good article
  17. Pettitte is running right now without pain. He'll be back soon, and it is a leg injury rather than a mysterious shoulder or elbow injury, so my bet is he comes back fine. I think Javy continues to eat innings and will sit in the 4.50ERA range. You hit the nail on the head with AJ, although he's been pretty good of late. If he stays on the right path, then we're fine. If he's totally lost, then we're in trouble
  18. No, it's not. But we won a WS with only 3 starters and this yr, Pettitte has been much better than last and Javy has been serviceable. Waiting for the other shoe to drop on Javy probably is a bit of paranoia rather than entrenchment in reality. Getting Haren would be magnificent and would cement our 1-2 spots and really leave us picking through AJ or Pettitte for games 3 or 4. But I do think we can win it all with our horse shouldering the load and the rest of the rotation following in suit
  19. It's fine to feel that way, but panicking about our rotation at our first signs of trouble isnt the right way to go about it. I agree that Hughes has been pretty crappy of late, but he's also entering untested territory in terms of IP and is probably ready to return to the pen to limit his innings. The other guys just happen to be the bed we made. CC, Javy, AJ, and Pettitte have been very solid as a group and are likely to be our 4 come the playoffs.
  20. 3.1IP 3ER, but should be two. That fastball was a cockshot. He'll be a pen arm come the playoffs, IMO. I think he might be tiring a bit
  21. Wow y228. Hughes hasnt been lights out but I dont think he's been as bleak as you are picturing. Put the white flag away
  22. BTW, our hitters need to adjust to this f***ing guy. After strike 1, he goes non-stop changeups. Sit on one and rip it
  23. I was impressed with his ability to hold Podsednik on the base through the entire inning
  24. The sox will have an advantage and a disadvantage in the negotiations. The advantage is the McCourt situation. The Dodgers are gonna look to shed payroll. The disadvantage is that the sox are gonna need a catcher, so there will be a bit more urgency. Seeing as Martin is due a pay spike, I think they could get something done without it hurting too much
  25. Hughes is equally likely to suck as he is to dominate. He sucked last time out, my guess is that he dominates
