  1. and I know some girls who partied with Clay a few times when he first hit the bigs, and they say he was about as rock star as you could possibly imagine another person being when it came to the way he thought of himself and treated people, especially girls
  2. Watch their interviews, and they're completely upfront about it. Ellsbury is one step away from referring to himself in the third person he's so cocky. And Buchholz used to be the same way, and when he stopped was also when he became realistic about his ability and worked on his weaknesses --> now is a brilliant pitcher. I dont feel like I'm being unfair or bold to accuse certain young, hot shot players of hubris when they clearly demonstrate it and other players call them out for it.
  3. Werth didn't just start being a good player, he's put up very promising numbers for years, they've just been overshadowed by the lineup he's in. And Jacoby is an awkward player who just slaps it and runs like hell. His bat has in no way progressed, his steals will go down (just like crawfords), and his attitude is terrible. It's a miracle that Buchholz recovered from his god complex to work hard enough to be a good pitcher again, but it was mostly because he struggled so much for 2 years. Jacoby still to this day thinks he's the best player in the bigs, even though anybody paying attention realizes he gets terrible contact and isn't as prolific on the bases as he thinks. Werth will likely have a >.850 OPS and steal 20 bases on a yearly basis if we sign him to a deal after the season, which we easily could afford considering how low his trade value is now.
  4. This article claims we're more interested in Werth than Dejesus (fanfeedr.com/mlb/2010/07/22/red-sox-notes-werth-dejesus-snyder) which is the first I've heard about that, but I think that's good news. I'd even trade jacoby over for werth and a prospect, I'm really tired of his s*** and I think werth has unlimited potential that could especially be tapped into by Fenway. And also, lets cut this catcher crap. we have much more important issues other than getting a mediocre catcher replacement.
  5. fanfeedr.com/mlb/2010/07/21/has-dice-k-been-a-success-or-a-failure I came across this video, and it made me wonder whether or not people's attitude on Dice-K has changed, will change, or is capable of changing. I for one have as little faith in him as any pitcher we've ever had, but that's obviously borne out of frustration more than an actual reflection of his ability. Do you guys think Dice-K can maintain the production of a good 4 starter, and a fringe 2-3 starter on most teams? Or will he slip back into his unbearable habits.
  6. I didn't mean he's a current solution, I meant to show that catching prospects are often cheap and surprising, and those with hype and thus a large pricetag often under-perform. I would be just as confident with a triple a catcher's prospectives in two years as I would be with Kevin Cash's. So why trade anybody to get an unproven catcher when you currently have two proven, yet banged up ones?

  8. fanfeedr.com/mlb/2010/07/19/report-red-sox-again-make-push-for-iannetta Once again the Sox are overly zealous in the pursuit of catching depth. Yes, Varitek is on his last stretch, and V-Mart is momentarily injured, but no matter who is replacing them, the offensive drop off will be horrific. I think there's no more value in forcing a veteran reserve catcher to start than in giving a homegrown catching prospect a chance. And yes, I know we don't have many of those, but surely we could trade for some for a cheaper price than Iannetta. This is not to take away from Iannetta, he's proven to be a very clutch, substantial hitter -- for a catcher. His OPS is still very impressive, but his number of plate appearances are not. Please, Theo, you're willing to give guys like Nava and Darnell a chance before trading the house for temporary OF replacements, please try to be as patient when it comes to the catcher position.
