It's been kinda quiet on the Yankee front, which means something is gonna happen shortly. My guess is the Yankees might actually go out and get a bat. With Robertson and Mo turning into a solid 1-2 punch at the end of the pen and with the likelihood that Hughes will be out there as well come playoff time, the Yanks might hold out on the pen market. Mostly because the Jays are asking for the moon for Downs, and some of the teams with the better pens are still in it (namely SD). Girardi has been using the DH spot as a resting spot for some aging sluggers, but come playoff time, having Cervelli or Thames or whomever in that spot essentially creates an easy out.
My guess is that the Yankees might focus on a guy like Lance Berkman. He's having an off yr for him, but the OPS is near .800 and his OBP is in the .360 range. His power is just starting to come back as well, and in NY, that RF porch could help him some. It's the classic Yankee move. Going out and getting an aging slugger at the end of the yr to help the offense, like we did in 96 with Fielder and 2000 with Justice. And the price would be pretty minimal. Berkman is still owed $6.5 mil for the rest of the yr and has a $2 million buyout at the end of the season. My guess is that Houston wouldnt as for too much
