    I think the Red Sox have too big of a deficit to overcome to catch the Yankees. Especially now that the Yankees have shored up the offense.

    The "if we make the playoffs" Getting Lilly would allow for the Yankees to do with Hughes what you want them to do. Our top 4 of CC-Pettitte-AJ-Vazquez is better than any top 4 in the AL sans TB. Our offense is the best in baseball. And our closer is the best of all time. Getting Lee or Haren would have made things nicer, but as it stands, we have the best shot of taking it all. Doesnt mean we will, but we have the best chance, IMO

    A sub 1.3WHIP and a K/BB over 2 for an entire rotation in the AL is struggling? Must be some good hash in the DR. Lets combine those numbers, shall we? The Yankees rotation is 4th in the AL in QS's, with 59, 4 off the lead from TB The Yankees rotation is 4th in the AL in WHIP at 1.28, .02 off the lead from Oakland The Yankees rotation is 2nd in the AL in K/9 at 7.17, .08 off the lead from Toronto This is a struggling rotation?

    The Yanks are apparently working towards bringing in Ted Lilly. Nothing imminent. Lilly's numbers this yr were a lot better than I expected 117IP 89K 3.69ERA 1.14WHIP

    But then again, Berkman adds a ton of consistency to this lineup. He adds a power threat and a guy who will work the count and be a professional hitter in every AB. I love the acquisition and am happy with what we gave up

    And lately there has been an expectation that pitchers never miss their spots. Hughes pitched a damn good game. He missed with one pitch and lost because our offense blew its load in Cleveland.

    Back to the Berkman deal, I have a feeling both sides will actually get something out of it. The Yankees will get a half season of an elite level bat before he saunters off into the sunset and the Stros get one guy who will be in their pen for awhile and a SS who could very well be their franchise SS in the future.

    I'll tell you, taking the spotlight off of him with this trade deadline could be the best thing for him. But scoring 2 runs vs Wade Davis especially since we got those two before he registered an out is shameful. Hopefully Berkman's acquisition helps with that.
