  1. Yikes, he has a torn thumb adductor muscle, and the head has torn from the bone? They might try to rehab it, but when you looks at his thumb, it looked like it windowshaded on him, ie the muscle ripped off the bone and rolled up on itself. That's usually something that requires surgery as the muscle typically doesnt reattach by itself.
  2. I think he might break camp as your CFer next yr. Once EEI starts turning on a player, and I am talking about the fans as well as the hosts, then the player usually gets moved. They were killing Ellsbury yesterday, fans worse than hosts.
  3. Culver, who is also 17, is quietly adjusting very well to the wooden bat. Line for the yr... .276/.336/.382 for a .718OPS with 6 steals in 33 games. But the last 10 games have been even better. .357/.372/.524 for an OPS of .896. And he has shown a really good glove. When we signed him and he struggled in the GCL, I thought for sure he'd be ticketed for SI next yr. But there is a chance he goes to the SAL since he has already had a full short season under his belt Also, in the second half of their double header, Sanchez hit a 2 run double in 4 at bats. These two have made that league worth watching
  4. Burnett seems to get in trouble when he has too much stuff. Meaning, he operates a little better with slightly less velocity and movement. On days when his stuff looks just wicked, he typically cannot find the zone and then he needs to groove the ball. I dont think it is injury, it is just the nature of the beast with this guy In terms of the Yankees overall performance, right now nothing is working. They are too good to continue this way, so I expect them to bounce back in short order. All teams hit a rut eventually, this is ours
  5. Gary Sanchez missed 2 weeks with a wrist injury. He returned today, going 2 for 4 with a double, 2 RBI and a walkoff single. His line sits at .385/.448/.628 for an OPS of 1.076
  6. Brandon Laird went 4 for 4 with 2 homers in his AAA debut
  7. Justin Smoak was a top 5 prospect in all of baseball. The sox currently dont have one of those. Halladay got the Jays Brett Wallace and Kyle Drabek, both top 20-30 or so prospects. Santana's deal was stupid and I doubt Jed Hoyer is that dumb. And Martinez got the Guardians a guy who looked like a solid pitching prospect in Masterson, a safe back of the rotation guy in price, and a high upside lefty arm in Hagadone. Regardless, NONE of those teams had the leverage that SD has. Their leverage is that they are a playoff contender WITH Gonzalez. So they are gonna request a lot more as well as some MLB ready talent in return. In terms of Anderson, he may be streaky, but thus far, he hasnt had any sustained success at AAA in 2 tries. I still think he will eventually figure it out, but it has to have hurt his trade stock
  8. Dellin Betances is having a ridiculous season. Turns out, he just needed his elbow fixed, now he's golden. Line from last night: 6IP 1H 0ER 1BB 11K
  9. Gaby Sanchez is going nowhere. His season in FLA is solid. SO much so, the marlins moved their best prospect to LF.
  10. It isnt that abdominals can last forever, it is that abdominal hernias will last forever until fixed. Surgery knocks him out for 6 weeks minimum, with most guys needing 2-3 months to fully recover. Meaning his season would be over. If Drew and Ellsbury were in tip top shape when he was first diagnosed, my guess is that he would have had the surgery. But with the rotating doors in the OF, he toughed it out and probably tore the hernia a bit more. This will end up being a lost season for him, but after surgery he should be pretty healthy for next season
  11. The Pads are gonna be in a very enviable situation. They can play the "contenders" card and use it to drive up the price. If they dont deal him, then they can take 1 last shot at the NL West before taking the picks when he leaves via FA. SD is gonna want MLB ready talent regardless. Their pitching is good in that division which means a lot of their needs will be offensive. Instead of Kelly, my guess is that Iglesias, Kalish, Anderson, and Reddick would probably be the package. I will tell you this much, though. Even in a short sample size, I think this Kalish kid turns into a good ballplayer. Reddick came up like a deer in headlights. Kalish is coming out like Ricky Vaughn. Everyone else be damned. I wouldnt deal him.
  12. 4 solid innings, 1 nightmare inning. Usually it is Jekyll or Hyde. Tonight it was both.
  13. Cano is 2nd in hits, 8th in doubles, 7th in HRs, 9th in RBI, 6th in BA, 6th in OPS all while playing Gold Glove defense at a prime infield position on the best team in baseball. Like I said before, I think Cabrera has it, but Cano would finish second if the season ended today
  14. Wouldnt be surprised at all if LAD or SF would go for him. Both those teams need offense and Kung Fu Panda will move to 1b with Huff gone and the Dodgers could upgrade from Blake
  15. Dojji, anytime money is freed up you need to see how they are going to invest it. The sox have a solid farm system, but a lot of their talent is in the lower levels, meaning they might not have enough to pry away a Prince Fielder or an Adrian Gonzalez. So a trade to bolster the middle of the lineup seems out unless they agree to some serious salary dump. That leaves the FA market. Their OF is under contract next yr, but that wont stop the sox from going after a Jason Werth, who I think would be perfect for Fenway, and he's a Yankee killer to boot. Then you have to look at your lineup. If you resign VMart, you are talking about a higher salary than he has now. If you resign Ortiz, you're probably looking at a lower salary, so resigning those guys would cancel each other out. Signing Werth would eliminate the Lowell money plus a bit of the Beltre money as I think Werth is gonna see about $15 million a yr on the open market. Overall, I think the sox are gonna hold pat or shed some payroll at the end of the season since the markets all seem a bit down nowadays. Then you have to think about 3b, which looks pretty thin after Beltre on the market. I think a very real possibility is Lowrie at 3b as a stopgap to a trade or a FA signing in 2012. That leaves a lineup of.... 1. Ellsbury CF 2. Pedroia 2B 3. Youkilis 1B 4. Ortiz DH 5. Werth LF 6. Martinez C 7. Drew RF 8. Scutaro SS 9. Lowrie 3B That isnt bad and would be cheaper than the offensive players this season due to Lowell's expiring contract and Beltre's departure
  16. Frontloaded contract doesnt make much sense. They'd have to agree on a number, then divvy it up over that period of time building in a gradual elevation yr to yr. If the sox think VMart is worth Posada money when he catches and maybe $9 mil or so if he isnt catching, then they could work something out. Throw out a 5 yr offer, thinking he'll catch for 2 and play 1b for 3. That comes out to $57 mil over 5yrs. That's probably very reasonable, although I could see the sox offering 4yrs $50 mil just to avoid the extra yr
  17. He'll probably get a 4 yr deal at big money. The sox would be wise to offer arb and let him ride
  18. His feelings wont matter. His agent is Boras. He's gonna get a huge contract
  19. Paps is gonna be effective, I agree. But will he be effective to the tune of $13 million or so he'll probably get in arbitration?
  20. Brandon Laird was promoted to AAA Corban Joseph was promoted to AA
  21. No, the sox arent poor. But Theo is all about value and is 70IP of Papelbon, especially the one who is wearing the jersey this season, worth $15 million?
  22. when you have a guy kill his leverage in the media saying that he wants to be back more than anything, then nothing goes down, you have to think Theo has other options he is exploring
  23. You are right. The guy with the best numbers doesnt always win. When those numbers are with a middling club, then another player can take it. Look at Pedroia's win, he wasnt even close to the others, hell, he wasnt the best offensive player on his team.
