    One thing is for sure, this is gonna be quite an offseason. Papelbon is a unique situation. He wants to test the market, and if you look at the big markets, most have elite closers. NYY with Rivera, NYM with KRod, LAD with Broxton, etc. Chicago will probably be rebuilding. The only team that I think would be a match is LAA. And a Paps deal very well could be about money. Paps is gonna ask for Rivera money in arbitration, the sox might think that $15 million is better allocated elsewhere and will get 75 cents on the dollar in moving him. One thing is for sure, it will not be as big of a market as the sox would have hoped, and they might be better off just to pay him for one more yr, offer him arb after 2011 and take the two picks when he signs a 3 yr 45 mil contract. The only thing Theo might be looking at is the possibility that Papelbon regresses for a third straight yr. At that point, his salary and trade value wont match

    YS, Dojji very well may be right. My guess is that the sox envision VMart as a 1b and Youk as a 3b for next yr, and Salty would slot into the 8th hole in the order as the starting C

    Cano is the best player on the best team in the biggest market and he has the numbers to hang with the other guys. Pure numbers, it's Cabrera. But it's never about pure numbers anymore. Plus, Cano has played a hell of a 2b

    And yes, Girardi is a moron. We have a day off on Thursday and go home vs Toronto for 3. We easily could have put our best foot forward then rested some guys prior to the Boston series

    This team cannot hit a changeup. We proved it vs O'Sullivan. What I find funny is that we dont ever change our approach. It seems like everyone is completely surprised when he throws it.

    This might be the most unlucky game of CC's career. The Rays have hit one ball hard yet keep getting bloopers and dunkers to fall in or they beat them out

    An all arm looping GR double by Aybar. A looper off the glove of Berkman that should have been caught leads to run #1, then a missed pick at 1st leads to run #2. CC hasnt been great, but he hasnt been as bad as his line would indicate. Also, this team cannot hit a change

    Pal, I do agree. It doesnt make a lot of sense. Ramirez was a problem, but Oki and Delcarmen have been worse. You'd figure they'd get rid of one of them before just handing away a guy who has improved monthly since April

    KC is second in the MLB in BA, Burnett held them to 4 hits. Toronto is 10th in the MLB in runs scored and first in homers, and he shut them out. Cleveland and Oakland are jokes offensively. The sox went through Oakland and Seattle, the 24th and 30th in runs scored in the bigs. Then they ran through the Angels, who are without Morales and sat Hunter for one of their games.

    Yankees signed 30th rounder Zach Nuding. Throws mid 90s, JuCo reliever who was due to head to Texas A&M this upcoming yr.

    They tried to deal away Delcarmen, but couldnt find anyone willing to give them anything of value. And to think, the sox were offered Willingham last yr for him and they turned it down

    Like I said before, this is a good deal for both sides. The Rangers just decimated their farm system with Lee, Cantu and Guzman coming on board and needed to restock it somewhat and the sox had a black hole in their system at the catcher's position. Salty has a long way to go from present to ceiling, but if they can work hard with him and get him up to a .250 20HR 75RBI catcher, then they'd be thrilled

    I agree y228. Wood and Joba are gonna start out on the same level. Middle inning guys trying to work their ways into a setup role. The best one will slide into the 7th inning role with Robertson clinging to the 8th inning role for dear life. Also, Aceves is throwing more and should go out on a rehab assignment soon. What was a pretty significant weakness may turn into a strength in the coming weeks

    And in terms of MVP, I gotta go with Hamilton. Being on a first place team means something. The guy is hitting .362 with an OPS over 1.000 for a first place club. Cabrera has been the better player, but Hamilton has been more "valuable".

    He'll be fresh for the playoffs. I dont have too many qualms about Joe's usage of Mo this yr. I do have a lot of qualms with how he utilized Joba well past his effectiveness as his setup man. Regardless, big win. ARod continues to shrink as he nears a milestone and Berkman looked a bit jumpy. Once ARod finally hits one out, our offense should start clicking more regularly. For now, he's a black hole

    The sox made one trade for the future with Salty. My guess is that Theo is okay with standing pat OR he didnt think he could get more than equivalent value of 2 draft picks in the first 2 rounds for VMart or Beltre. Regardless, IMO, they could have gotten some serious prospect loads for VMart or Beltre and by not shoring up the pen or getting another COFer the sox are pretty much sunk

    BTW, the Wood deal is fine with me. Get a guy with lightning stuff for $1.7 million? If he sucks, then we didnt give up anything, if he doesnt, then we get a closer level arm for free essentially.

    Figured I'd create the thread away from the trade deadline The sox didnt give up much. And if they can get his head screwed on straight and his health straightened out, then this could be a low risk high reward scenario for the sox.

    He's not fast, but he isnt Teixiera slow. I honestly think our best lineup has Gardner leading off with Jeter hitting second, but Girardi has been reluctant to do that. Gardner leads the majors in P/PA by 0.17 over Ortiz, is 7th in the majors in OBP at .399, and is 6th in SBs with 30. He's a prototypical leadoff hitter
