    The sox do have a problem that should be rectified by the trade deadline or the playoffs. Their 1-3 are pretty strong. With DiceK out and Lackey pitching like absolute dogshit, the 4 and 5 are bad. The Yankees' problem will be enhanced in the playoffs and hidden in the regular season. The Yanks have an ace who can stand against anyone. But the guys after him have a lot of questions, but can put up above average numbers in the regular season, hence why the Yankees staff looks so good on paper. When the rotation is cut to 3 or 4 starters, the sox will be fine. When cut to 3 or 4, the yankees will be underdogs in games 2-4 due to the pitching matchup

    Once again, you speak of something you do not know, which is not unusual. Montero's arm isnt a problem, remember that. Lavarnway has been scouted essentially as a guy who will not stick at catcher, ie worse than below average. Montero is considered to be a below average to at best average MLB catcher. Montero has the edge defensively, which cannot be said of many catching prospects. Hence why Lavarnway is a DH or 1B in the future.

    You're an idiot. Montero's issue isnt arm strength, his issue is his blocking ability. But Montero is more of a catcher than Lavarnway

    Time for the Brian Gordon experiment to end. He has nice offspeed offerings and good enough location to keep AAA hitters off balance, but essentially a rookie with an 88mph fastball isnt gonna get it done on a regular basis. We need to bring up Adam Warren, who is just mowing em down in AAA

    I keep Nova up. After an abysmal April, his line is 56IP 60H 23ER 21BB 29K for a 3.70ERA with a 1.44WHIP. It's not great, but it is good and his best days are coming. I'd move Garcia to long man and option Pendleton

    BTW, Phil Hughes threw well in his rehab start. Topping out at 95mph, sitting 92-93mph. They're building him up, but word is, the heat is back

    Robert Lyerly was promoted to AA today and Alan Horne was activated for Trenton and will start a game on Wednesday. He has recovered from multiple shoulder surgeries

    Mason Williams was drafted in the 4th round in 2010, but received the highest bonus of anyone selected in the draft by the Yanks at $1.4 mil. His father was in the NFL, so he has athletic bloodlines. He has a cannon for an arm, runs a 6.6 60yd dash and has very good bat speed. When he was drafted, he was a slap hitter, but in instructs, they changed around his stance into a more conventional swing. The early returns are impressive. He was the most impressive player in Extended this yr, and through 3.5 games, he's 7 for 15, 3 for 3 in SBs, with a HR and a double. The kid has incredible tools and shouldnt be in the short seasons for long. This kid is a surefire prospect

    It's a step below CMW's, but it is still hard and heavy. CMW could run his up to 97-98mph when he was on. Nova can run it up to 95. The thing that Nova has that CMW didnt is the curve and the potential for a solid change. I also like his 4 seamer at times. I dont know how you can say his stuff is middle to back of the rotation. He sits low 90s, can run a 2 seamer up to the mid 90s and his 4 seamer has been clocked in the high 90s. He has a curve that when its on, is unhittable and a workable change. Not sure what else you want to see in terms of stuff. His location and his demeanor could use work, as with all rookies, but right now, he's pitching to a 4.40ERA on stuff alone

    He throws against his body a little. I know it is a major improvement over what he was, but his motion could use a little more cleaning

    I dont care if his K rate stays where it is this season. Everyone knows that his bread and butter is the heavy sinker. He has a putaway pitch in the curve to work off of, but if this yr, he stays with his strengths and next yr he starts working on becoming more of a swing and miss guy, I'll be happy. He has silly stuff, as with most rooks, its all about location
