wins do have something to do with CY, last yr, though, Felix's peripherals werent even close to anybody elses. Right now, I think Verlander is the leader with Weaver and CC coming up on his heels. I dont think Shields has the stamina to pitch as deep into games as he's being asked for a full season and I dont think Beckett throws enough innings to take the award home.
Are you an Ohio State fan? Do you hate Michigan? If you are into that rivaly, multiply it by eleventy billion and you'll be close to what it is like to be in the middle of this rivalry. BTW, your pink hat can be picked up at gate C

Verlander- 12-4 2.15ERA 0.87WHIP 151IP 147K

Those are my top 5, not in that particular order. But CC has been rolling of late, having reeled off 21.2 scoreless innings and he's typically pretty dominant down the stretch. My guess is that by the end of the yr it will come down to these 5. And if CC keeps winning like he is, it will be tough to not give it to the guy from NY who wins 22-23 games and propels his team to the playoffs in the brutal AL East
I think they will do better because they are better than what their current line suggests. I think both are due to get hot again. So while I agree that losing ARod doesnt help anyone, I do think that a probable jump in their production should offset some of the pain of losing him
I am surprised nobody has caught this. The sox are into the INTL FA market this yr. They have signed 2 of the top 20 prospects this yr. #16 Manuel Marcos (OF) and #17 Raimel Flores (SS) and have been linked to a few more. As of right now, the Yankees have signed one player in the top 20, although are linked to 4 more. Their only signee at this point is Miguel Andujar (3B.) who was listed at #20
The lineup definitely weakens without a healthy ARod, but we should see Swisher and Posada pick it up a little with more fastballs coming their way. The good thing is, we have a 6 game lead in the L column for the wild card and the sox are the streakiest team in the bigs, and we are effectively tied with them (in the L column).
Well, ARod has a UZR of 10.3 and a UZR/150 of 23.1. The highest he has had since the stat has been gathered. His defense this yr has been highly underrated
This was his line prior to July 1...
.299/.373/.507. That's an OPS of .880, for a 3b, and he was rebounding from a miserable May when he was dealing with a quad issue. The fact is, he was in elite company for his position and his OPS. The guy turns 36 yrs old at the end of the month. Girardi needs to use him less like a 26 yr old and more like a 36 yr old. I think that with a 2/3-1/3 split of 3B and DH, he could still be a .900ish OPS player.
And the contract never looked good. Giving a 32 yr old a 10 yr deal was assinine.
Also, the Crawford of this yr isnt a guy who can OBP .360. Hell, he's not even over .280. If he comes back and goes on fire, .400OBP, .450SLG and steals a ton of bases, then you move him up. If he doesnt, you leave him down there
We knew the back end of the contract was gonna be s***. These kinds of injuries happen. He's been on the DL each of the last 4 yrs, but this and the hip are the ones that are gonna be the longest. Prior to his injury, he was a .900OPS 3b who was playing okay defense. These things happen, this shouldnt lead to any major long term consequences, and if it allows him to go back to the .900+OPS hitter he was prior to the injury, then it's worth it
Salty is a guy you might sell high on. He's not a very good catcher and he's started to hit in a lineup where he's going to see a ton of fastballs in. Put him in the Pirates lineup and I guarantee he gets pitched differently. If Lavarnway shows he can hit AAA pitching and if you think he presents higher upside on the offensive end, then dealing Salty at yrs end would be a good approach. The dearth of catchers in the bigs would make Salty a pretty highly sought after commodity
Your 1-2-3-4-5 hitters are all-stars. Crawford is hitting .240 this yr, put him behind your all stars. You signed the guy for $140 mil before the season, he's either been a non-factor or injured the whole yr and you still lead the bigs in runs. Dont mess with the mojo
Also, I highly, highly doubt the Cubs exercise a $16 million option on a player who has been a walking DL stint up until this yr. If Aramis were a FA after this yr, he'd see offers likely maxing in the $12 mil range, so the Cubs could try to resign him and forego the option or just cut him loose, offer arb and take the picks
This is the right move, surgery for ARod. It's routine, went as planned, no surprises. He probably walked out of the surgicenter today. He'll be running in 2 weeks and should be on a rehab assignment by early to mid August. He had no lift and couldnt run. He went from being an above average speed hitter with light tower power to a statuesque singles hitter. He needed this to be done. Nunez will hold down the fort until he's back.
Jose Bautista is the best player in all of baseball right now. No question. AdGon has been solid, but RBI's and runs are a team stat. Bautista is playing like Bonds around the turn of the millenium, yet he isnt in a steroid scandal...yet.
