This is due to be an interesting deadline. The Sox need a starter with Wake and Miller in the 4 and 5 spot. Their pen is coming back into shape with Jenks on the mend. RF is looking like a black hole with Drew, but the rest of the lineup is solid. I am not sure which way they go, but I guarantee they kick the tires on Beltran. In terms of NYY, not sure where they go either. The mantra has been starting pitching, but with Colon due back in a week and Hughes not far behind, the yankees suddenly have 6 big league starters (not counting Gordon) for 5 spots. And with no big ace dangling out there on the deadline like last yr with Lee, I doubt the Yankees empty the farm for a back of the rotation type. 2 big weaknesses a month ago are filling from within. Swisher has turned the bat back on, and Posada has been unreal in June. If those guys can just hit to a high .700OPS the rest of the way, let alone their career norms of mid .800, the offense should be good for the long haul. I predicted that this would be a BIG deadline in the pre-season, but I am not sure either team will make a major splash

So now, instead of looking at the quality of the offense faced, you are going down to his swing % out of the zone and his first pitch strike % against a team with no punch. Once again, do the ladies enjoy your prematurity or do they not like getting cream on their leg before the action begins. The guy has ace stuff. I have never disputed that. But he has faced 2 lineups that are 25th and 28th in the majors in runs scored. The composite OPS of the Padres is .645 and for the Pirates, it is .663. Are you really going to draw conclusions based on two starts vs two abysmal offensive National League teams? Really? Cmon now, you are better than that. We'll see how he does when he gets back to the AL and has to face a lineup that actually has someone who knows hot to hit in it

Crawford has posted OPS' of .810 and .761 in May and June respectively. If he stays in the .800 range, then he's the Crawford of his TB days. Just his abysmal April will skew this yrs numbers

2 starts in and you are asking about him becoming Lester. Are you typically this premature with the ladies?? Miller has shown ace stuff and showed improved location vs the Pirates. He's faced two terrible offenses, one which he allowed too many baserunners and one where he was solid. He gets the impotent Stros next, so not a real test of his mettle. We'll see how he does vs a team that actually carries lumber and can actually take a pitch outside the zone

With the recent happenings with Boston, I actually think their biggest challenge will be making the playoffs rather than actually doing well in them. TB is playing well and the Yankees can pound the bad teams, even if they struggle with the sox. But the sox have a lax approach at times against the bad teams and have such a significant dropoff after their top 3 that they will need their big three to step up regularly to sustain the crap in the back end. I still think the sox make the playoffs and the world series, but the injury to DiceK and the suck that is John Lackey will hurt more than you guys willgive credit for

Josh Reddick worked on his selectivity. He has the raw tools, but big league pitchers were picking him apart with pitches off the black and down in the zone. Now, he's waiting for his pitch, and while it is a SSS, he looks like a new hitter. I hope the Yankees take note of this and start giving their kids a f***ing chance. This kid could have lazed around and hit the piss out of the ball in AAA and become a AAAA hitter. Instead, he got a shot, sucked, learned that his game wasnt good enough as is and he worked hard to fix his shortcomings. We need to do this with some of our kids. Put their feet to the fire, show them that they need to keep working
