  1. Well, the question becomes, what do you pay him to stay? I think the fans choice is to keep Papi. But Theo has been said to want flexibility, and when your DH is a guy who cannot do anything but, it kinda saps your flexibility. That being said, if you give a guy a full day and your DH hits to a .900OPS, then you should count your lucky stars. I think the sox will do with Papi what they did with all their aging stars. Offer them something they think is fair. If someone outbids them, then they wont chase him. I think there is a very real possibility that one of the teams in the AL will offer him 3 yrs. And while the sox might offer the most AAV, I doubt they go past 2. If papi wants to stay, then he takes the less years. If Papi doesnt, then he goes
  2. Well, time for work. Enjoy the rest of the games y'all.
  3. Looks like Mills is a Tito clone. Never should have let Norris get past the leadoff single
  4. This Parnell guy throws smoke
  5. You dont face the Yankees again until August. The Yankees seem to be the Sox slump busters
  6. Montero might be ready to break out. 4 for 9 with a double, HR, and 4RBI in his last 2 games. This is about when he started to rake last yr
  7. Bud Norris is a good pitcher and none of the sox had faced him before.
  8. And Niese had thrown him a few off speed pitches before then as well. It wasnt like the curve came out of left field. Sometimes the power guys dont know how to hit to the situation. A flyball at that time would have been good enough
  9. It was the right move, but it didnt work out
  10. I hate on Girardi all the time, but this is a solid move from him. Nova had been struggling, got through last inning, has the sacks packed and pinch hits for the kid. Cmon Posada!
  11. Pence with the double. Should have let the other runner score, but so be it. 3-1 Stros
  12. This should be Nova's last batter. After looking good over his past few starts, he cannot get the sinker down. He's lucky we arent chasing 4 or 5 runs right now
  13. 3-0 to start the game is the good part. Nunez airmailing 1st isnt the good thing, but Reyes was beating that out anyway
  14. Might be time to move him to the pen. Without a change, he's meat the second and third time through the order. Plus, his command has left him this yr. Put him in the pen, and he'll dominate
  15. Papi is having a hell of a contract yr and will be a Type A FA. Dont think for a moment that Theo wouldnt love to free up the spot and get 2 picks for his trouble. Someone is going to overpay Ortiz, thinking that his line this yr is something he can replicate going forward. Theo and Cashman both want to have flexibility at that position, rather than be locked in. I think Papi gets a 3 yr deal on the open market, and I think Theo will just say sayonara
  16. Going to be interesting to see how Stafford works out, as he signed today. Mid 90s out of the pen, but in the CWS, was topping out at 92mph out of the rotation. Curve looked pretty nasty, but I didnt see a changeup in the 4 innings I watched. He had some nice run, but some of his FBs were flat and his location was spotty. Was only one game, but I am not sure this kid is a rotation candidate as is. He's got the innate tools and a very solid breaking ball, but he needs a lot of improvement to be a starter. As is, he could be a good lefty reliever, though
  17. Yanks signed their second rounder, Sam Stafford
  18. CC dominating a good hitting lineup. And our s*** lineup somehow got 4 runs for him.
  19. BTW, Hughes threw a gem in Trenton, throwing ched as well. Sounds like Hughes is ready as is Colon. Colon starts Saturday, and it sounds like the Yanks might go to a 6 man rotation for a couple turns
  20. Jeter doesnt get to that ball, so I cannot fault him there, but the kid does need to rein in his throws
  21. It also gives the Yankees a chance to work with Montero for one more season on his defense. He and Romine are the Yankee future at catcher, but rushing the kid this yr into the position or having another yr of Posada would be a problem
  22. no, you really don't. He was incredibly annoying
  23. The offense just f***ing pounded Greinke. And Garcia is proving that against everyone not from Boston, he seems to have about a 6 inning smoke and mirrors act that gets him a QS. 10QS in 14 starts.
