  1. y228, I don't think we have a chance in a 7 game set vs a team like Texas or Detroit.
  2. He isn't going to be ready from an arm perspective until next yr. Maybe he becomes a pen piece, or maybe you sign him and he blows out his shoulder because he isn't throwing every other day, like he needs to be.
  3. I hate this trade. I think we should tank this season as I think we have next to no chance of winning a world series. I'd rather go and win then get my hopes up and lose in the playin game, which is what we're looking at doing.
  4. I'm going off his SR from when he was drafted. Sorry, looks like his command needs work. Regardless, this isn't the kind of deal where you throw a guy like him over to the other side
  5. I hate this trade. Black is a guy who probably profiles as a closer, but he's got a great arm and he throws strikes
  6. I bet Cashman has sent letters to Selig a few times. "Hey Bud, can you help us here? We have evidence of juicing, hell he rubs his balls in the clear before every game and chews on deer antlers after every game. Joba injects him in the scrotum with nandrolone and he has subsequently tried to tamper with your prior investigations. Please, please take him off our hands!" Sincerely, Brian Cashman
  7. I don't like the idea of acquiring Soriano, but I'll wait to see the specifics. If they can get Soriano for free in 2014 and don't have to give up a big arm, then I'll be happy. I've heard Chase Whitley's name going around. The guy would make an immediate impact in Chicago and will likely be a solid long term reliever, but that's a price in willing to pay for an upgrade. I'm just not sure Sori is that much of an upgrade
  8. You're wrong. The Halos owed Wells $42 mil. The Yankees picked up $13.9 mil. $11.5 mil was paid by the Yankees this yr. meaning that we're paying a little over $2 mil next yr of his $21 mil salary. But, since lux tax is based on AAV and Wells was signed to a 7 yr deal with an AAV of $18+ mil, he'll be a wash for 2014
  9. This couldn't be funnier. The guy goes on a campaign against the Yankee medical staff, and the guy he's using to help him has been reprimanded by the state of NJ for failing to supervise over the prescription of hormones and steroids. And to top it all off, he hasn't even examined him physically. If you're gonna go on radio supporting ARod, you'd A. Want to be a radiologist, since MRI reading is their field mostly. And B. Want to examine the patient. f*** off and die AFraud
  10. If you believe the reports, this kid was raised in the streets of Bristol with his family effectively running with the Bristol Bloods, which is linked to the Latin Kings. He's been a thug his whole life, they just covered it up in Bristol and Florida. Now we're hearing of bar fights, shootings, and other crimes from his time in Fla. It will only be a matter of time before we hear about the s*** he did as a teen
  11. And it had worked for the Yankees up until other teams starting catching up to them in terms of money in the pocket. Now that teams in LA, Boston, Chicago, etc are willing to throw around money up towards the level of the Yankees, they have to change their MO.
  12. The sox got a steal, mostly because they owned Pedey for awhile more and negotiated with that power. I wish some of our FO guys would do that. How great would it have been to have negotiated with Cano during 2010 instead of after 2013
  13. Garza is gone. Lee is older and costs a ton more money. Peavy is a solid big league starter, maybe not an ace anymore, but his peripherals are solid. The injury bug is an issue, although he came back from one of the most unique injuries ever encountered in baseball and returned well. Also, his injury this yr was a rib fx, which is more s*** luck than anything else.
  14. Wells is free for next yr, so he doesn't count. The Angels are paying his entire 2014 salary
  15. It's gonna keep the FO with the mindset that we should buy. I don't like it. You look at the haul the Cubs got for Garza and it makes you wonder what could be done with a guy like Hughes or Kuroda.
  16. My team sucks right now and will for the forseeable future. The only chance we have of competing next yr is if they suspend ARod for life. Freeing up that $27 mil would give us the leeway to sign some big names and actually compete
  17. Go for it. I admit I was wrong. In my defense, I was expecting to need 1 month replacements for 1b and LF. We had a 3b to replace ARod in Youkilis. We had Cervelli behind the plate, which was dicey, but he's better than Stewart. Coming into the yr, we thought Jeter was going to start at SS. Then we thought he'd be back come July 1. The fact is, we were getting by until the replacements returned. Well, they returned, then left again. Once Tex went back down with his wrist injury, my tune changed. Then we heard Jeter was delayed, then hurt. ARod is hurt again. Youk lost for the yr. ARod to be suspended, etc. I haven't seen a team this snakebit in a long, long time. In 2008, we lost Wang, Matsui and Posada, but that looks like a walk in the park compared to what we're short of now
  18. I think his performance has overshadowed the trepidation in Boston over the hell/Achilles injury he had coming into the yr
  19. False. I predicted Clarkin would sign near slot. I was right
  20. So we are expecting Iglesias to continue hitting .348? We should have expected Ortiz to have a 1.000+OPS coming off an injury that we weren't even sure he'd recover from? And Mike Carp was going to be a near 1.000OPS player as well? Everyone expected Ellsbury to come back to hitting over .300 after his disasterous shoulder injury looked to leave a lasting impression on his swing? And lets not forget everyone's favorite DFA candidate in Nava who just happens to be hitting to an .800OPS and a .370+OBP. Not just that, but Napoli is hitting about what you should expect as has Victorino. And everyone predicted Salty having a career high OPS come August 1, right? I know you guys suffered some pen injuries, but to have Uehara and Tazawa pitching to a ridiculous level has made that a little easier to handle. And yes, Buchholz has been out for 2 months, but did anyone think he'd have a 4+ WAR in his first 12 starts? And we all though Lackey was going to pitch to a sub 3ERA, right? And those who think Lester is pitching like s***, he is pitching as most expected him to. Right about where he was last yr. Doubront took a step forward, Dempster has been as expected. I think that aside from injuries, which happen to everyone in varying degrees, the only real disappointment is Middlebrooks, and nobody should have expected a ton from him since he was coming off a good 3 month stint in the bigs. It seems awfully revisionist to fail to see how much has actually gone your way and how unlikely it is (although not unprecedented) for you to hit to this degree even in the face of injury throughout the whole yr?
  21. They're still playing well, although I doubt they win this division. That being said, only the homerest homers of homers could have predicted Lackey's return to dominance.
  22. I like what you said better
  23. That was the wrong word. Back when the team was playing over their head. That's more like it
  24. I'd be okay with moving Whitley for the right piece. I don't like the idea of brining in Soriano, especially since we'll get Grandy back soon. And let's face it, we aren't winning s*** this yr. Stop trying to get players for this yr!
