  1. Does anyone know the name of the restaurant Giambi and Brown ate at a few years ago in Japan when they opened the season there? I'd like to make reservations there for a few of the Sox players.
  2. Two words for ya: Darryl Stingley Tell him that soccer and football are equally tough.
  3. Look, I can't stand Bonds as a person, but from a purely statistical standpoint, there are few, if any, better in the history of the game. His records are not a joke in total. Juicing only became "illegal" recently, prior to that it was ignored and I would bet over half the players in the game were using some type of "illegal" chemical to enhance performance.
  4. Bonds in left trying to chase down the ricochets off the monster would be hilarious
  5. Good points and that also is one of the reasons why I believe Roger won't go back to Boston. His ego won't let him be matched up against other teams #3 in the rotation (behind Matzusaka and Schilling).
  6. Replace soccer with rugby and your argument may be a bit closer. Soccer in no way compares in contact with football.
  7. I'm sure some here believe Pelican Bay State is her college alma mater. In reality she visits her pen pals there quite often.
  8. Any team that would sign Bonds to play on defense day in and day out deserves what they would get. He's one dimensional and that is only when he is able to stand.
  9. Bwahahahaha  (Nomar and Drew don't count Linda - they have to have male organs)
  10. Back to the future Linda - it's 2007 and a WS Championship won since that took place.
  11. To this day I don't understand that trade. What was the intention in acquiring Pena? An everyday player or a utility guy? Why trade a solid #5 starter for a utility guy? Now they are in a situation where they have to s*** or get off the pot with Pena. They have some youngsters in the minors who will be Major League ready in the near future and Wily Mo taking up a roster spot. Smart GM's would not offer much in a trade knowing the situation the Sox are in.
  12. The Sox now find themselves in the same position as the Yankees and Reds did with Pena. He has the potential to be a very good power hitter, however, because he is out of minor league options (thank the Yanks), and is not quite ready for everyday play, there is little you can do with him. He needs to play every day and just won't get that chance in an organization such as the Sox. Their best bet may be to trade him to a lower market team in need of a power stick where he can get the chance to play every day.
  13. The Yankees searched tirelessly for a way to revoke Giambi's $80M contract after his "admission". They even tried to get his approval to send him to the minors, to no avail. Does anyone really think he is not being tested on a regular basis? Does anyone really believe he would risk $20M plus per year for the remainder of his contract by taking roids? I believe he is smarter than that. Go back and look at his numbers from high school, college and his year with the Alaska Goldpanners before joining Oakland. He's been quite consistent.
  14. Winter League Update: Rich Garces: El Guapo (The handsome one) lives! The rotund reliever, last seen in the big leagues with the Red Sox back in 2002, finished third in Venezuela with 11 saves. The league hit just .173 against him and he struck out 23 in 23 1/3 innings. He's picked up a win and a save in the playoffs to boot.
  15. great movie - doesn't get the play or recognition is should have in the U.S.
  16. Mr. Crunchy, AKA Alvah Bessie Herbert Biberman Lester Cole Edward Dmytryk Ring Lardner Jr John Howard Lawson Albert Maltz Samuel Ornitz Adrian Scott Dalton Trumbo
  17. Ty Domi fan One of the softball teams I play on out here is called the Charleston Chiefs!
  18. Linda And by all reports Bonds willingly participated in that skit and had a good time. All the more reason to question why he would throw Sweeney under the bus. Also, what the hell was Bonds doing in Sweeney's locker?
  19. I would have to say I still hold a lot of animosity because of the notorious Adam Graves "slash" on Mario's wrist in May of 92 and Graves' subsequent suspension and when he referred to the league as a "garage league" in 92 resulting in his being fined by the league.
  20. Lemieux set the stage (with his whining) for all of the "soft" penalties we experienced with hockey a few year back, while his cheap shots with the blade of the stick virtually went "unnoticed" by the men in stripes. He was extremely talented and IMHO lowered his abilities with his whining and cheap shots.
  21. Mario Lemieux Tim McCarver Joe Buck Barry Bonds Jose Canseco Ken Caminitti "holier than thou f***ing fantasy baseball pukes" Tony (it's for charity, buy a ticket) LaRussa - when responding to an 8 year old's request for an autograph at a Cardinals team function.
  22. Johnson was due $16M this season from the Yanks and then he would have been gone. Any GM worth his salt would have looked for a way to dump a declining FORMER all-star and Cy Young winner, freeing up over $10M even after chipping in $2M for his 2007 DBacks salary. Cashman has embraced the Stick Michael theory of building from within. All I have heard since Clemens and Pettite left the Bronx is how s***** their pitching staff has been, but I do believe they have won the division each year despite those staffs. Cashman is doing the right thing stockpiling arms for the future.. The Yankees need nothing offensively and that offense can more than make up for some bad pitching outings.
  23. If Vizcaino and 1 prospect with no money is the deal I believe Cashman should really consider the Padres offer of Linebrink and a prospect more closely.
  24. is an absolute monster!!! Tito finally was humbled on 30 December.
  25. Bueno I agree, even if the Drew deal falls apart, the Sox have a serviceable option in WMP in the short term. As for the bullpen, one shouldn't overlook the lack of a closer even with their much improved starting rotation. If they don't have a reliable closer, the starters will get overworked in close games which could lead to problems late in the season. I don't think Epstein or Cashman are done yet this off-season.
